FS2020 - Pop-out instruments and multiple monitors Tutorial

I'm sure lots of folks are already aware, but just in case. We can toggle between windowed and full screen modes by single clicking in a blank area of the screen and tapping Alt-Enter (hold down the Left Alt key and tap the Enter key). This also works for the pop out screens if you have dragged them to another monitor, it gets rid of the bright white title bar. Thanks for the videos Sir, much appreciated.

It may be worth noting that as of launch to the time of this writing, popping out a window in FS2020 may penalize you with a frame rate hit as high as -10FPS. If you are at/near your threshold for playable frame rates, doing this may result in an unacceptable flight sim experience.

i found that it locked my FR on screen 1 to 30, now both screens are 60htz with vsync on, so i'm guessing it split each screen 30htz/fps per screen.

This is handy on multiple monitor setups if you have all controls mapped on some physical device. But it would also be great to have an option to bring full g-1000 to the touchscreen, together with all the buttons

I agree, it's a shame you can't pop out the buttons as well. That would have been very useful. However, using Air Manager and Mobiflight this is now possible. Instructions here: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/full-g1000-control-now-with-mobiflight/348509 . I have taken the GNS530 and dropped it into an Air Manager bezel and can display it on a touch screen or, in my case, on an iPad running Duet. Full control of the buttons and rotaries. I use it with a Knobster, and it's as close as you're going to get to being realistic without investing in the very expensive dedicated hardware bezels.

Agreed! It's nice to see a larger image with the pop out but if I need to change the zoom or use any other button, I still need to zoom in and lose my outside view. Hopefully, they will sometime allow a fully functional pop out to be on the second monitor such as XPlane has.

Nice feature, what would help as well would be if the function keys would pop out with the screens, this feature in X-plane helps immensely.

The "MSFS window mode" is not visualized, I guess, because you are recording only MSFS "app" and not the whole desktop. Then when you set MSFS windows on your secondary screen (which, I think is vertical) we only see MSFS window turning from landscape to portrait....

They need a similar feature as xplane 11 where you can pop the screen out and actually adjust things in that view.

you can setup any key the key bind is under cockpit camera new window UI,i setup all my controls for every plane from the scratch i don't use default.

I’m currently exploring how to setup cockpit with more pop out screens (easier on the eyes for those of us over 40 lol) yesterday I downloaded spacedesk and use it to move the pilot2atc bulky screen to my fire 10 tablet - and also have nsvigraph setup on an iPad - know lot of folks are using Air manager (still more development coming) with touch monitors to pop out the main displays and can configure the panels how u want - and also uses Knobster so u can move the dials in gps etc - then the day comes when u go to VR and it all goes obsolete lol - anyways good discussion !

I've watched a couple of your video and while the content is spot on I have a frustrating time keeping up with your mouse and what you click on. It would really be beneficial to your viewers , if you could make a couple tweaks to your presentation to improve it's impact. I offer a few tips. 1) make your mouse pointer larger and a different color (red would be good). 2) Slow down your mouse pointer movements as you navigate across the screen. 3) Lower your display resolution to make everything larger and more easily seen and viewed by the user. Thanks for using your knowledge to offer excellent, how-to video re FS2020.

Is there any way to remember popout locations? For example, if I separate 3 instruments and move them to 3 different monitors, it would be nice if there was a way to reload this setting without having to redo it every time.

Too bad the command button don't pop-out with the screens though. The buttons are way harder to use on the simulator than in real life! Pot the buttons out!

I need to be able to create 2 extra windows of the front view, drag them to L and R monitors and then simply turn the view until I'm looking out the side windows. Window stretching doesn't work. FSX had this feature. How could MSFS miss this??

I'm using 2 monitors but I'm not able to move the screens to each other. What do I wrong? I'm in the window mode . It's so frustrating. Use the R.alt key ...nothing works. In older versions of FS I could easily move the undocked parts to the other screen.

wish you could send those mini windows to different desktops. that way you could [ windows_key+cltr+left/right ] that to switch between desktops.and the main game world view would be clean. wont have drag them around or close them.

Saved by default. Whenever you close the game with the pop outs in their position. They will relaunch in the same position when the same plane is loaded back in.

is it possible to say have the exterior view on one screen while having the default cockpit on another? I ask because since MSFS2020 the exterior is extraordinary! and I'd like to show my friends an exterior view while I continue to pilot the plane with the default cockpit view.

Very timely. I have a two monitor set up and would love to have the Garmins on a separate screen as they are hard for me to see when I am using my Honeycomb controls. Are you able to get both screens running at the same resolution and refresh rate? That's eluded me so far (not specific to MSFS). A problem for another day. Thanks for sharing this!!

When I move it to another screen and I'm recording in OBS studio my main screen in OBS goes black and only see's the pop out as the sim. I'm going nuts trying to figure it out.

I’ve since then found it somewhere that it was changed in the update I’ve learned to enjoy it though now, I’ll open multiple instrument windows and snap them to the corners of my second screen. Each time you do it on a a new flight it remembers the positions they were, or close to it. I think it was bothering me more not knowing why I couldn’t do it anymore thinking I messed up a setting 😂

Try 'Pop out panel manager' by fligthsim.to stays on start up even from cold start. covers most of the basic models of planes. Hope that helps.

You need to press the ALT GR key, at the right of the keyboard, when the pointer is on the instrument window that you'd like to pop out. The cursor should turn in a magnifying glass

How were you able to get rid of the white bar across the top of the PFD & MFD windows? When I drag the windows to their respective monitors, the white bar is still there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

move the cursor to the screen with the window you want and click on it. Then press "Left Alt" + "enter". Then move the cursor back to main screen.

@@dongallagher7756 Thanks! That works great. I'm using the RSG G1000 monitors and seem to get a pretty good drop in FPS rate when I use them. Any suggestions on how to minimize the loss in frame rate?

Yeah no, this isn't working at all on my setup. Cessna 152 dials show only one plus sign indicator when I hold down the Alt R key but it does nothing if I try to left click on it. Can't find any help with this problem elsewhere. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Press Alt and Enter key to change to window mode. Then you can click the minimise button. Press Alt and Enter again if want to return to Full screen mode.

just noticed this too! playing on 3440x1440 on ULTRA and usually i got 60 fps with dips to 50s in large cities and airports, once i pop a single instrument on 2nd screen i get 31 fps, not worth 50% of my FPS, screw that
