I did just run some tests on greenhouses - and your math is the limit of income. The production rate of greenhouses is based on water usage, which is a static rate. The output does not increase if you select all products: - 1 product is produced at 100% rate. - 2 products are produced at 50% each. - 3 products are produced at 33% each. In essence the decision to produce all three allows you to hedge against the market, and average the income over sell price of each. I think most folks would pick lettuce, just because it produces slower (for a higher value), so there is less labor to ship to market. I think what would be interesting to know about the other production facilities is whether they are similarly limited - either by input product or production capabilities. (There's so many tests to run and so limited time per day!!!)

When you crank 'em up with a few upgrades then they really start to talk. I have 18 large green houses. The 6 doing Lettuce are on upgrade 5, the 6 doing tomatoes are upgraded to level 3 and the 6 doing strawbs are on standard. This gives me 5 full Krone semi trailer per month to put into the warehouse for sale in February for $5Ml lettuce $3Ml tomatoes and $1Ml strawberries. Sure it takes an extra day to truck them all to the sell points. And the bonus is, I got really good at reversing trailers.

The one bit you left out here is some kind of total profit. For example, I find bread to be really slow production, but one harvest of wheat will give me enough floor to be making bread for over a year, and then I have a steady income year round. Whereas Canola Oil produces quite fast and from one harvest I have to store to sell in the right month otherwise it would all be sold before it reaches its peak price.

I was running 30 large green houses making Tomatoes. Just fed them free water from Elm Creek ponds and on Medium economy the profits on a full TLX Phoenix XL pallet autoload truck and trailer was about 60,000 on average in January. Would often collect 4 or 5 loads at a time. But it was very tedious running water back and fourth and the pallets autoloading was a chore at times.

A good example in understanding some aspects of the "microeconomics of farming". However, most farmers base their incomes through full acreage calculations not base materials with the exceptions of lumber companies. Then apply equipment, facility, operation, fuel, and maintenance cost reductions for estimated final profits.

Yeah, I like the idea of the production chains more than the actual output. I am about 30 hours into a save and still haven't tried anything other than the main 4 grains that the grain mill takes. I found out that you can double dip if you put a bunch of crop in there to sell before you buy it and the crop still shows up for production as well. I only own the grain mill and bakery but bread is just way too slow... I feel like the ratios of use to consumption need to be rebalanced. 1 grain mill makes like 20 times the amount of flour than the bakery will process. Due to this, I usually keep it set to distribute and once the storage is full at the grain mill, ill swap it to sell to sell off what I have before setting it back to distribute. I haven't really messed with the other chains but it just seems to be a lot of work supplying them all for what you get back out of it. I think the end game good should be way more valuable than what they are especially for how slow they process everything.

Very good analysis. A few points: 1. you didn't cover the BGA - when you buy it, it gets electricity and methane prices, about 50% more than regular sell price. Also, electricity and methane have the same prices year round, according to the economy.xml file. Factor in cur sugar beats, manure, and sliurry proceesing...and then autoselling digestate (which also is same year round IIRC), and it may very well be the best production facility around...and that makes sense with its EXTREMELY high initial investment. 2. A GREAT test, and one needed I think, is to test the economy to see if the timing of high prices changes year over year. Its my belief that now that they record last 12 months of prices in economy.xml, that its truly a dynamic market. Sell EVERYTHING EVERY YEAR in January?? Well, prices do drop like a rock when you dump massive quantities, and that would affect the recorded monthly average price. Yeary over year, its my believe this will cause January's high price to eventually drop...and December and February's average prices will slowly increase because you NEVER sell in those months.. Eventually, December may be higher than January. This would make it a true supply/demand model...not hard coded. An easy way to test would be to save the game, modify the economy.xml files, and sleep all year, and see what happens to the prices when you never sell. As well use debug commands to give you free product, and dump massive amounts in the best month, year over year, and see if I am correct in what I think. 3. Another factor is the return on investment - in general I have observed it all takes about 5-7 years on normal economy to get the ROI of land purchases. From your data, it seems a bit less on the productions factories. Correct observation though that you get more profit per month if you use all different recipes simultaneously, but the key is keeping it running ALL YEAR. This concludes that its not a great investment if you have 1 hectare of wheat, and buy a Grain Mill because you make more money. You need a dozen or so hectares, or each grain product, to maximize the Grain Mill. Then it will have a much shorter ROI, and a better ROI than land purchases...but land purchases have the best ROI in early and mid game. That would make a good video to show all of that.

12:56 Correct me if i am wrong but i was of the understanding that each production building hade a set amount of cycles it was able to run over the course of 1 month. So if u did run both let´s say Wheat and Barley into Flour the game used this monthly set numbers of cycles and split it betwinn those 2 or however many productions that building hade active for that month. So wouldent it then be better from a stand point of the amount of grain processed/month to only have the 1 type of grain active that gave u the most flour output/cycles. A simple example would be if u only ran 1 type of grain and 1000 wheat got u 1000 flour but 1000 Barley got u 800 flour. Now if u have them both active the amount of cycles are split betwinn them so the mill only process 50% of each so u would get 500 flour (wheat) and 400 flour (barley) = 900 flour if u ran both Wheat and Barley at the same time vs that u would have got 1000 flour =100 more if u only used Wheat. I hope i dident complicated this to mutch and that it made sense. To sum it up do the buildings have a set amount of cycles per month that is then split based on how many diffrent crops are active in that building or does each crop have there own set amount of cycles/month regardless of how many other active crops the building have active?

But i am guessing the reson why the Oil mill dosent is becouse u get 3 diffrent outputs, where the Grain mill and spinnery only have 1 output so it should be stackable. I am sure this is a bug, but with all the guides to production videos I have watched, I can't believe no one has mentioned this one. I built my own Spinnery. I harvested my field of cotton and got enough cotton to run my factory for 15 months. I was trying to decide if I wanted to replant the cotton. I got a contract to harvest someone else's cotton field. When I looked at the #9 map, I saw that the contract was sending the cotton to MY Spinnery. I harvested his field and took the cotton to my spinnery. I got paid $6900 for the contract and now I have over 40,000 liters of free cotton to put into my factory; enough for another 14 months, so now I can plant something else in that field this year.

I saw another video where the guy came to the conclusion that you were better off selling your cotton as a crop than doing any production with it, because he said the fabric sold for less than the raw material. I was kind of surprised to see how much more you made from wool cloth than from cotton cloth, but I guess it makes sense as it takes longer to produce a big stack of wool than it does to produce a big stack of cotton. Thanks again.

One thing is certain. Its not a good ROI if you buy productions right away. You need enough land and crops to fill it most of the year, with all year being ideal. Land is still the better ROI when you don't have much land and your productions makes you 25% more profit on the crop, for 1 month and shuts down the rest of the year.

@@bankhanger2 If you had 1 field of cotton, giving you 15k cotton per year, productions may not be worth it. 7.5k fabric, 3.75k of clothing. Ok, that clothing may be worth 100k, but you had to invest $160k in productions and lose the opportunity cost of the cotton, which was say ~37k. So, you lose $100k first year, and year after you make only ~$60 profit thereafter. You would be better off buying and farming more land for cotton. Actually, its quite close, so either way would probably be just as good, buying productions early with such a small field - but that's because of the fabric/clothing payouts. It's not the same with a grain mill for example, which only has a 15% markup of flour vs grain prices. Maybe you would have to go big as well and buy a bakery and go for bread to be similar to cotton. In conclusion, productions get better and better the more often they produce product, and early game isn't their place IMO.

After posting a warning about listening to random people I went and quoted someone without checking it out. I saw someone report that setting up a grape field is so expensive that regardless of what you do with the grapes, it will take forever to get your money back. I set up a test field and used the prices from Driver53's latest price updates. I built a vineyard that cost $380,430 for the vines. These vines gave me 20,200 liters of grapes. This would give the same number of raisins. The estimated peak price for raisins according to Driver53's video are $4662 or $2797 or $1554 depending on the difficulty level you use. With these prices it would take 4.04 years or 6.7 years, or 12.11 years to pay off the cost of vines. This is only running the factory a little over 3 months of the year. To get enough grapes to run the factory all year would take $1,464,467,18 in vines, but the ratio stays the same so you could pay off the field at the same time. Not sure I would like to try this on hard mode, but the other two don't seem that bad.

I believe your statement at 13:04 was incorrect if you have multiple inputs for a production it switches between them it does not do them all at the same time and quadruple the output of the factory just by putting in varied inputs. Same thing with grapes and raisins if you just produce 1 it outputs max if you produce both it spends half its time on raisins half its time of juice meaning you will get 8k a month producing both not 17k. @@bradleyquick9337I think @KillanKain is correct. From looking at my greenhouse, I have all 3 vegetables activated. Over a 3 month period, I produced only ~750l of lettuce, which is actually the monthly rate. Same for tomatoes and strawberries. But with the greenhouse and grainmill, ok, thats fine, all they produce products that are worth the same amount (greenhouse has 3 different products, however lettuce is 4x the price of strawberries, but 1/4 the rate...making all 3 vegetables can be an advantage when finding high prices). However, the BGA is terrible if it is indeed this way. The BGA processes ~240k silage per month, which can give you ~$150k. However, the manure processing, it can only process 60k manure that month, and that gives you $40k. I make about 2.7Ml of Silage per year, so if I bought it, it would never make any sense for me to process my manure or cut sugar beats there, which give far less revenue per month than silage. Strange, looking forward to a detailed test regarding this. This great affects productions indeed!!

I disagree about the greenhouses for two important reasons. Reason one is the space that you need in order to use them. They are tiny compared to the amount of space that you need for all of these other crops. Reason two is that the amount of time it takes to actually care for the greenhouses. All they need is water in order to function, and you can fill them up (at least the big ones, not sure about the others) at the beginning of the year and ignore them for the entire rest of the year until you get to the most profitable month. The greenhouses have the perfect amount of space on the pallets outside and storage space, so that they will store literally everything for a year and a month (because sometimes there's some fluctuation). Sure some of these others are strictly more money, but they also require more space and time to manage. I'm not arguing with the spreadsheet, just your idea of them being the worst.

Was yield per field considered? For example, looks like Oat does better than Barley when making flour, but you get a lot more Barley out of a field.
@Driver53Gaming
@Driver53Gaming 3 жыл бұрын
I made a video recently looking at yield per hectare. The results in this video are not based on field size. You can have 2 million liters of wheat in silos, but you are still only able to perform the same number of cycles per month as if you only had 50K liters. Gross profitability doesn't look at equipment or operating costs.

Yeah seems like greenhouses are actually pretty good like they are 10k for the large 1. So them making a few grand is not terrible you just need to buy lots of them and you don't need fields and you only need a water truck, delivery truck and a tractor to haul it all. That being said the game then becomes a delivery game

My mind can't grasp the concept of sacrificing honey for example (among other things) to make cereal with, while you can sell honey for more than what the cereal is. Just looking at your chart here on the cereal factory for example. If I sold all the inputs independently, I would make $5,961. So why would I sacrifice all those products to make $1,733 at the end of the day?

I thought the production chains don't work as fast when you are running multiple things in it? Like say you had the oil mill and you put in sunflower and canola, instead of processing both of them at 4800 per month or would split them and only do both at 2400. Or it's that wrong? Idk I'm genuinely asking

Or just do one larger wheat field, 3 chicken coops, and with easy settings when selling year production of eggs at November (and straw in December) you'll have so much money after a few seasons, that you can go ahead towards any production chain based on fun and not profitability 😀

I really don’t think your values are correct. Firstly average sell prices? No one will sell anything in the worst months. A better value would be avg sell price in best month. Or perhaps 80% of that value. I don’t think you can make multiple flour types simultaneously as the rates will change for each product added on. How many bakeries do you need to consume the flour?

This is not correct. Greenhouses are way most profitable. I played a lot already. Cost only water and have most profits. You need to calculate the cost of making the milk or getting the crops for the production. Then your excel will be totally different. Cows costs lots of money to produce milk. Cant just buy it. So according to my research and playing its totally the say around then you say here. Not using mods that is, otherwise its more easy of course.
@bertpierey3655

And grapes is green in your sheet.. well grapes costs way more to make then this. Machines are very expensive. You cant just take the price of grapes for calculating productions. Thats not fair as you can not buy it. You have to produce the chain. Same for wood. Expensive machines or very very long time to cut down yourself. Again, greenhouse is the way to go if you dont have money. Water costs almost nothing.
