Great video! Thanks! I really like those insights which you rarely find anywhere else. And quite amazing that the FSLabs bus simulates these things correctly.

Hi ibe3174. It was you that asked me about GS mini during my stream?! :) Yes, that was the main reason I made this video since it is so difficult to explain with plain words. So I knew my explanation on the stream wasn't satisfactory. And I am sure this question will be asked again in future, so now I can just post the link for this video. Thank you for your nice comments! Much appreciated. Regards

Fantastic learning tools, As an A320 pilot I have a special request, could you run and excessive using an incorrectly entered tower wind to a high tail wind value, to observe its adverse effects? Thank you very much!

Hi why do you have to set the QNH and the temperature on the APPR phase and do you decrease 1 value on the QNH vand increase 1 on the temperature like you did in a video to calculate the takeoff performance just in case if it drops or increase. I know it is off-topic but I just want to know the function of those values on the APPR phase and thank you for this amazing video :)
@Blackbox7115 жыл бұрын
QNH and Temperature entry in the Approach Phase Page is required for cabin pressure control and is entered with exact values.

Great video! Can you please explain what would happen if GS mini function would not be there in both cases?
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi Ayush. Thank you. You would set the Vtarget manually (selected mode) by the formula (VLS - 1/3 Tower HWC). So for example 137 kts. In the first approach you would have to constantly have a higher thrust setting because the headwind component decreases from 35 to 15 kts. If this happens steadily, no big deal. If it happens with gusts you would most certainly chase the Vtarget because your indicated airspeed would jump all over the place. In the second approach you would have to decrease thrust because the headwind increases and then once the headwind decreases again, you would have to increase thrust quite a bit. Once again if this happens in a very abrubt manner you would have to really work the thrust levers to manage the Vtarget yourself. Regards

Hi! Expert out there can i ask for your help? ! i get a bit confused here... on 2:43 it explains that VTarget = Greater of VAPP or GS MINI + ADIRS HWC, ( Isnst the value of VAPP here is greater than the GS Mini ( which is 136 , instead of 121 ( the ground speed mini) shouldnt we take that value instead?) sorry for this dummy question .
@Blackbox7117 жыл бұрын
tiffany51793 .. hi. I think you got confused with the different definitions here. The endresult ist Vtgt, the magenta speed bug which varies according to the actual wind component. VLS is a fixed speed, dependent on Grossweight and flap configuration and always gives a fixed buffer to the Stallspeed. Vapp usually is VLS plus 5 kts (until a Windcomponent of 15 kts) and will govern the Vtgt unless you have very strong winds like in the example you are quoting. Here the resulting value of GSmini + ADIRS HWC is greater the the mentioned Vapp and hence this is displayed as the Vtgt (magenta Bug on Speedscale). Vapp becomes the governing value (136 kts) when the combined value of GSmini plus ADIRS HWC falls below 137 kts. Hope that clarifies it a little?

Great explanation thank you 🙂. What happens to GS mini function when the wind changes to tail ? Thanks in advance…

VG
@ElZoido838 жыл бұрын
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel. Dankeschön. So ist es, VApp ist mindestens VLS+5 kts. VG

Hi, TWR reports 32G42KT & you land direct into wind, will the Vapp jump ? do you select manual thrust? Or you have a steady 35kts head-wind on rwy. In both conditions, at max payload, I imagine the nose-pitch would be some - degrees down? Wold this be a trickier landing? Thanx for yours excellent videos:)
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you! The VAPP, once calculated (VLS + 1/3 Tower wind on MCDU Approach page) remains the same. The VTarget is calculated via the GS Mini funktion and will move in the managed mode depending on the headwind component. In gusty conditions this will cause quite alot of movement in the VTarget. But remember, the GS Mini is making sure that a steady energy level overhead the ground is maintained. So practically the indicated speed and the VTarget pretty much move together, while the Groundspeed remains pretty constant. In a conventional aircraft where the VTarget is fixed, the change in indicated airspeed would have to be adjusted by thrust changes to chase the VTarget. Now the landing will still be trickier because the airflow over the wings does actually change with the gusty wind conditions and thus change the pitch values required to maintain the glide profile. Puuuuh, alot of theory! Now my head hurts. Just joking ;-) I have uploaded a video for you with gusty winds in the approach: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZWwqqVreNSpr5o Carefully watch the Groundspeed and thrust settings!
