I appreciate your willingness to help out. I ended up doing a clean re-install of everything and sticking with dx9 for now. Everything looks great, but I'm skeptical of the lod_radius tweak doing anything. I have it at 6.5, but didn't notice a difference when compared to the default 4.5. Oh well. If I decide to give dx10 another shot, I may take you up on the offer. Thanks.

Gavin Steiner That night lightning is from UTX, I have steves dx10 fixer and gives you the option to configure lights, if you check out my latest video I used something different than UTX's lightning for a change.

definitely worth it, FSGenesis is mesh, Mesh is simply the shape of the ground and it does make a difference. Its is responsible for the 3D shape of the ground. Think of it as the topography; hills, mountains, etc...

Hey man, I will message with more details if you want, but basically,UTX is landclass,land polygons,roads,coastlines, lakes, rivers,urban,etc.GEX replaces texture and autogen layout with 1m resolution,FSG is mesh, shape of the ground or 3D shape of the terrain, REX3 which is the latest is for environment, like clouds,sky, water, weather engine and other features.

GEX doesnt affect frame rate at all, GEX replaces the default FSX textures(urban, rural, desert, tundra, mountain terrain) and autogen layout with improved and detailed 1024 resolution textures

I did have steve's latest dx10 patch installed and had the original shaders in case I wanted to revert back. The re-install wasn't due to the dx10 issue, but because of problems with a couple of addons. I also wanted a fresh, vanilla, install that I could back-up on another drive. I "think" i had my inspector settings correct for dx10 mode. I went of a video guide posted by rotationfx. And the sim ran fine, it was just the issue with light objects. They looked like 2d sprites, if you will.

It would probably look similar, but for the night lightning you need utx and dx10 scenery fixer I think. The tweaks are also important.

dx10 definitely increases performance, also you will be able to select the "bloom" option and run your scenery settings higher and/or traffic as well.

I will probably take another shot at dx10, but may wait for Steve to release his scenery fixer tool. Overall performance was a bit better with dx10, water looks nicer and bloom looks the way it should, but for now my dx9 config looks very good with the enb over top.

How in the hell do you get the scenery to be so defined and stationary? Mine always blooms up in a certain radius that is set in the scenery settings. Does GEX or UTX fix that? Or is that an editing technique for the video?

2600k-4.8,gtx580sc,8gb 7-8-8-24 vengeance, vrap hd for fsx. For FSX, it is not recommended to go with a i3/i5, larger processor cache is better, Nvidia is the way to go for FSX as well, you will notice so many glitches and issues with amd. 8gb is more than enough but with lower timings. for HD, the faster the speed the better

No FPS loss at all, although with UTX night lights and depending on the city, it drops 2 or 3 FPS but most of the time always at 30

i have the gold version which includes the deluxe/ acceleration expansion pack, you need the acceleration for dx10 preview. I did not have to install any service packs. dx10 will help in performance so definitely give it a try with your system, stat with lower settings and make your way up accordingly

I dont have the PMDG nor the IFly so I really can't tell, by what I read on the forums there should be no problems with both, If you are running high settings on a demanding scenery with any of those complex aircrafts, you might experience some drop in fps.

According to the DX10 forums at AVSIM and what I was told, add these 2 line in the .cfg file: [Graphics] MultiSamplesPerPixel=4 // Must have for good AA. Using 8 is a huge performance killer for a very small improvement MultiSampleQuality=8 // This enables Nvidia 8x AA, but one can use 4x for better performance, or 16x AA if the system can handle it. If you want, i can PM you my .cfg, Inspector settings and FSX and see if we can work something out.

mobarak FSX Yeah, this light bloom effect is only on the runway and taxiways, city and terrain lights are just dull and flat.nowhere near as vivid as in this video. but now on dx10 after 10 mins of flight all sorts of artifacts are appearing in the sky and on terrain.This only occurs on dx10. On dx9 all is in order. I'm running constant 30fps and my config is: i7 @ 3ghz, r9 280x, 8g ram 1600mhz. Is it possible i'm low on ram? i'm watched the proccesses and i'm only using 4.5 gigs or ram while in flight. Page file is 30 gigs on a partition. Thnx guys !

Robert Milosteanu Are you sure you have UTX lights enabled from the tool ? dull and flat doesn't sound right. This is how UTX lights look when flying low, even with other light addons like aerosofts night lightning or FTX, they still have this bloom effect with dx10, I use steve's profile from the dx10 tool. I am not sure about the artifacts and never experienced any, but I don't use amd cards and to keep it short nvidia is the way to go for FSX. My specs are i7@4.8ghz, gtx580sc, 8gb ram and ssd for fsx.

are you using steve's dx10 shader patch? you really didn't have to re-install everything just for that! simply just untick the dx10 preview option and done, or even better, rebuild your cfg file and add your tweaks and/or whatever changes you did to inspector or fsx's settings. To re-install the patch you could've deleted the shaderHLSL folder and replaced it with the default, which is available at avsim's dx10 forum anyways. lod_radius is what you see from within a distance from the aircraft

How did you get the UTX lights to draw so far out? I can't seem to get mine to show distant lights. I've tried the lod_radius tweak and that didn't work. Not sure what to do. I have an i7 3770k @4.2ghz, 16 gigs of ram and a gtx670. Running FSX off a samsung ssd. Just no luck. Also, when I run in DX10 mode, the street lights look horrible.

I dont use ENB, sweetfx or any tools like that, best to run fsx at 4.1ghz and above, also it is not recommended to use either "gt" or "ti" class for FSX. I have the gtx580sc

For all of you wondering how his shit is running so good. Get a decent processor.. at the very least a 8350 from AMD (that's what I run) or and intel I5 or I7. Then enable DX10 preview, get REX, FTX Global, Opus, and Steve's DX10 fixer. The most IMPORTANT thing is learning how to edit your fsx.cfg file.. and make backups of said file! Your video card isn't going to help you much..

there really isn't any tweaks or any setting for the lights. lod_radius default value is 4.5, i have mine at 6.5. Are you using the latest version of utx? Message me and we'll go through rebuilding your .cfg file, and re-installing the dx10 shader patch, also some inspector settings and we'll go from there.

+David Ayarra GEX is just ground textures, it upgrades the default to a higher resolution, UTX is landclass, like Roads, Rivers, Streams, Bridges, Landclass, Waterclass, Highways, Shorelines, Coastlines, Nightlights and so on...

Murat Yağmur Yes you can activate the dx10 option, I use the dx10 fixer though, which fixes alot of issues in that mode, also adds other features like hd vc shadows. Your specs are too low to run something like this. My specs are 4.8ghz, evga580sc(still a beast), 8gb memory, ssd for fsx.Your CPU is very old now and your 760 is really a budget card for fsx, you want to be careful with your settings.

Thats what Jose Alberto Vera wrote is not correct. I have the Amd fx-6300, nvidia 750ti and 4gb of ram. I have rex Essential, the pmdg 777, 737 and airbus x extended and it runs very smooth with the right settings.

first you should tweak your fsx.cfg, and then you should try to find the best fsx settings in the game for your pc. Every pc ist different. If you tried the things you can compare your fsx with my fsx video on my channel. I think my fsx works very good. My video is not so smooth because of my capture programm because of this I lose some fps. And if you did all the things I told you above you can send me a message and I can help you
