The rule of thumb when rolling out of a turn is to start rolling out on a heading that is half of your bank. If you are turning left to 270 on a 20 degree bank, you would roll out on 280 degrees (270+10). Adding half of your bank angle is for turning to the left, and subtracting half of your bank angle is turning to the right. Bank angle of 30 degrees would make a roll out heading of 15 degrees +- of your desired heading.

Nice to see you're encouraging use of the elevators AND rudder, and the use of the slip indicator. In the "real world" this is a very important part of your assessment of Pilot skiils - one of the PPL requirements is to turn a full 360 degrees with minimal slip (ball must not slip beyond the centre mark boundaries), whilst maintaining altitude (when I did it in the 1970's it was no more than 100' indicated, which was pretty demanding for a novice Pilot!). Anything much over 20 degrees bank and you definitely need the rudder! Fo9r a series of controlled flight circles, it's worthwhile resetting the elevator trim to reduce your workload (and if you can set rudder trim too - it makes continued circling far easier :-) )

I am just shocked at how awesome you are at explaining everything. You go into detail and make associations which are memorable. It's so easy to follow like in all your vids. My friend, you need to be BIG because you're a natural born teacher at this!

Doofer911, Hello. Wow, these videos are great, thank you so much. I just recently got FSX and stumbled across your tutorial series and these videos are so great and thorough, no I'm learning the details of what the dials mean plus much more. I have learned how to navigate and do an ILS landing in the 737 800 which is what kind of got me hooked on FSX. I plan to watch all your videos, thanks again!

All your videos are amazing and I think most of the stuff you apply to do in a flight sim, also applies in real life. I went to aviation camp this summer, and I learned about all the instruments, aerodynamics, navigation, banking, flight sim, and actually flying the plane; and you are just as accurate at explaining the Cessna as they explained it to me. I even got to fly the Cessna 172 this summer 2,000 feet in the air @ our camp. I currently am having trouble kind of adapting to the flight sim and how to fly a full flight in the sim, and these videos are really helpful. All the other videos seem too complicated and hard to explain. The only thing I would find extremely complicated is navigation. Also, I want to learn more about the flight patterns/circuits, and VASI vs PAPI lights, but I noticed you are going to explain that in a future video of the series which I might watch later. Anyways, Doofer911, Stay Awesome. 😎

Thanks very much for the kind comment. My thought process when making these videos is that I wanted to use flight simulation as a training tool to learn real world flying techniques, flight simulation isn't just a game to me. I hope that one day I'll have enough money to study for a Private Pilot's License but until then, I use flight simulation to practice. Don't worry so much about Navigation at the moment, you'll spend a lot of time doing VFR flying where you only use the 6 primary instruments. Instrument navigation is a whole other skill set so I'd recommend focusing on the basics first :)

Doofer911 Thanks for replying and giving me some tips! You’re an awesome dude. (Oh and I also want to get my Private Pilot’s License some day, because I am only 12, and I believe you have to be around 16 or older to get your pilots license.)

Roll is the verb, the action of banking. "Bank" is the noun of rolling.

How do you increase air speed. How do you gain or lose feet is it just moving the yolk up or down. In this video did you also use trim to make the altitude stay at the desired altitude

When you are banking and the nose drops can you use Trim to bring the nose up to a level horizon instead of pulling back on the yoke?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 2 жыл бұрын
It's better to hold back pressure during turns, Trimming should only be used to settle the plane in straight and level flight.

What is the rudder and do you control it with the pedals? When do you use it and how?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 6 жыл бұрын
The rudder will Yaw the plane left and right. So rather than the wings tilting, the nose will move left and right. Think of turning in a car... when you turn, the car is Yawing to the left or right. It's often used during a turn to prevent the plane from slipping sideways through the air. It's also often used for takeoff and landing to steer the plane and keep it on the centre of the runway.

Doofer911 - Thankyou for that! Are you also using a cockpit/aircraft mod or add-on? My PC is pretty good (all graphics settings on Ultra High) but still looks grainy and pixelled. I am new to FSX so don't quite know what to expect.
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that's standard FSX. It's a 10 year old piece of software so a lot of the textures are dodgy. Add-on aircraft generally have better cockpit textures and clearer gauges/displays with smoother animations.

This method you explained is very informative. but problem comes i turn plane towards the airport and after leveling out, it does not matches with the heading of the airport. i have even tired with auto pilot heading setting, but still it is unable to match them. in manually way, the plane gets swayed a lot. is there any way to solve this issue ?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 8 жыл бұрын
Do you mean that it doesn't line up with the runway? The Autopilot Heading selection will only point the nose of the plane in the direction you tell it. It won't line up with a runway automatically. Might I suggest watching my video on ILS Landings, I think that's what you're trying to do.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4nYdnxrf7Z3eMU

Hello! I've been watchin your tutorials a lot recently and I have a question. I don't have a joystick at the moment but Im planning to buy one. Could you please tell me how to make turns with keyboard? Becasue when I press on the right arrow the plane turns way too much and when I press the left arrow to make the plane stable it tilts too much left and I loose control. Is it because of the sensivity that the arrows has in-game. Or is it normal. Thx
@Doofer911

I found the best way to control the Rudder was to use the numpad. Press 0 to turn left, Enter to turn right and if you want to immediately center the wheel, press 5. You may also need to turn NumLock on or off to get it to work.

I notice that the attitude indicator is showing that the plane is slightly "nose up" even when the vertical speed is 0. Is that a trim issue?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 7 жыл бұрын
Nope, it depends on the speed of the aircraft. If the plane is flying slowly, having a slight nose up attitude is needed to increase the amount of lift, thus keeping the plane at the same altitude. If a plane was flying fast enough, you may even find that it flies with a slight nose down attitude to stop it from climbing.

Think of holding a piece of paper by the top edge, so it hangs down. Now pull that paper through the air. The faster you pull it through the air (like a propeller pulls a plane) the more it becomes horizontal. If you had a giant/powerful enough propeller, the plane could hover, looking straight up into the air, like you holding the paper still. Then you just rearrange the seats 90 degrees and call it a helicopter.

Doofer, I cant understand why when doing a 45 degree turn the planes nose drops down drastically and I cannot maintain level flight. In such a steep turn I would normally want to bring the nose up to about 20 degrees positive above the horizon and increase throttle as well. With throttle at maximum and joystick, ( properly calibrated ), all the way back the nose still drops. not sure what to do here. Doofer or anyone.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
