Many Thanks Paul ... If it was not for Radio Amateurs like youself quite a few of us would be lost ... Many Thanks again ...Mike M0csi.

Brilliant video, many thanks! I will have a try with this for my SSTV settings. Not tried much SSTV TX yet but have received a fair bit from the ISS and wanted to try transmitting in the 2m band.

Wow, I had something similar happening with SSB voice, but I worked around it some other way.

I dont do sstv yet so I could be wrong. When I operate digi modes on usb data Like mostly WSJT-X they say to set your power you operate at then look at the ALC indicator and turn down the DT Gain until no line is showing . Nothing I do that on all modes on digi. I'm sure they have the optimal menu settings for sstv posted somewhere on line. I will be starting SSTV ops very soon. 73's AA4CP Chuck Port Salerno FL USA

That is a usual issue. Had my FT-950. Also the FT DX 1200 has this issue. You also see a Shift of the Waterfall between USB and DATA USB when not configuriing this. Plenty Videos out there. Short. If you dont configure this, you are OFF FREQUENCY as well.

How do you setup the mmsstv programme? Some settings TX all the the some will not TX at all.

Paul can you tell me the differance between usb data and normal usb will the data side recieve a normal usb picture

Paul. I am going nuts trying to get my 991 to talk to MMSTV. It wont key the transmitter nor will the commands change freqs. I have tried both USB and my older signalink comport method and no joy. not sure how to get a hold of you to get more information from you?

Fantastic Video

I must have something set different on my FT-991. My RF out (PO level) stays at 50 watts from low to high. Then again, I DO NOT USE the "Data USB" setting when I use MMSSTV or WSJT-8. I use the "normal" USB setting. I've used it that way for close to 3 years. On my 991, menu # 64 and 65 are at "0hz."

Then I guess you are using an interface like a Rigblaster, SignalLink or similar. The FT991A's internal soundcard only works (on TX) in the DATA modes.

@@paulturner849 Nope. Just the USB cable from my computer to the radio. No external soundcard. I made a quick video of my radio while transmitting on FT8 a minute ago. I'm uploading it to my KZbin page ( under K7JBL) if you want to have a look. I titled it "USB Mode." We do a lot of 2 meter ragchew around here. I do a live stream starting almost every night around 10 PM local (Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington) so the guys can get an idea of what their audio sounds like. I use the min-DIN data port on the back to run my mic audio into 991. My hand mic works as a PTT, but the mic is turned off in the menu settings of the 991. I use a condenser mic powered by a Behringer X18 mixer, which goes to the mini-DIN Data port. It's nice having a 6 band parametric EQ on 2 meter. The 991 only has Xmit EQ on SSB.

Strange. I don't have my FT-991A set up for SSTV at the moment (I am using an IC-7300 instead) but I did a quick test in WSJT-X and the 991A will only TX in D-U mode. In SSB mode the rig is keyed but no tones are sent.

Hi Paul- Do you suspect that the need for the offset is contributed to by the menu items #66 (DATA LCUT FREQ) & #68 (DATA HCUT FREQ)? I suspect if you turned these filters off you would see a more steady ALC. You scrolled too quickly past your high cut frequency, but I noticed you hadn't turned off your low cut frequency filter. 73 W0ASB

I think those menu items only affect the receiver filtering. I have them set at their default values - 300Hz LCUT and 3000Hz HCUT so even if they were relevant to TX bandwidth the cut-offs are well outside normal SSTV bandwidth. 73 G4IJE.

Thanks for a very interesting and useful video. Do you have any tips for the poor C4FM receive quality please? There are quite a few unhappy 991 and A users with this mode.

Thanks for your comments Graham. I haven't tried the '991 on C4FM yet. There is some activity locally so I hope to try it soon.

Shouldn't the ALC be at less than 1 to avoid scatter?
@paulturner8497 жыл бұрын
Not really Paul. You should keep ALC low for digital modes but for analogue SSTV you can set up audio levels as you would for SSB. Most people reduce power a little to avoid overheating their PA, but if your radio can handle the heat you can run full power without splattering.

Thanks for the reply! Didn't really expect one especially this time of day. :) I guess us Pauls are night owls. Thanks for the info. I just bought a 991a and trying to learn it and the differences from the Kenwoods I'm used to.

Have a look at www.classicsstv.com/mmoptions.php for details of the options I use in MMSSTV.
@paulturner8496 жыл бұрын
"Data USB" just means the mode the transceiver must be in to use its internal sound card for so-call "data" modes. Traditional analogue SSTV (Martin, Robot, Scottie etc) is often referred to as a data mode simply because it uses audio tones to convey information. SSTV is NOT a digital or data mode, but it is handled by the computer as if it was.

Oh goodnes, now Yaesu will hardcode a new firmware with automatic changes when going into this mode without the ability to disable it if you wanted to. We don't get source code for radios with Yaesu software you know...
