If you were to bring the enemy shields down to 0 before the Artillery fires, yes, the artillery is amazing. Plus, the Artillery will not de-cloak you if you fire it during the enhanced Stealth augmentation. But yes, Artillery will still take like 20 seconds. It's a 5th weapon you can equip, sweeps across multiple rooms, can set fires, and can hit crew. It. Is. Powerful. The only thing that would make it absurd is if YOU could aim it. It's balanced right where it is at, unlike Flak.

It CAN be powerful, it can also be worthless. I've had many times when it does TWO damage...a beam that does TWO damage with a 50 second charge time (level 1) is definitely NOT powerful. It also takes up a slot that could be used for stealth, hacking, or some other system. I'm not saying it's worthless (although I may say that during a game when it does TWO damage), but I would almost always prefer having another system as opposed to having a SLOW, uncontrollable weapon on my ship.

What's the best ship for getting the achievement "They never saw it coming"? Because while the Stealth B seems like the best candidate, I can literally never survive long enough to grab a Weapon Pre-Igniter because literally every enemy seems to have a beam weapon. Just one ding to my weapon system, and I'm screwed. I can't even survive to get enough scrap for a value point either.

Are you playing on easy difficulty? I'm not sure what that achievement is without looking it up, but I'm going to guess it's something like "kill the enemy ship with one weapon attack" or something. Stealth B or Zoltan A would be the best candidates, as they're the only 2 ships that start with high powered beam weapons. Just keep playing, if you get frustrated it'll just make you get salty and play worse (like me, lol)!

I had a run focusing pretty much only on artillery. I've got my dodge chance to 50%, and had defensive drones. Pretty much nothing could touch me. If you're super lucky you will find something like Vulcan charger which is the only weapon you would need, since it would work amazingly well considering you play defensively as it.
