Congratulations and a big THANK YOU! Great, in-depth, step-by-step set of instructions that will lead a working ftp server. Works great. However, it is missing a critical last step, which is to set permissions to Write for the FTP_USERS group on your ftp folder. At least that was my case. I was being able to login but it I was not able to place files into the folder until I added the right permissions. Granted, this was a folder created after the FTP_USERS group was created, don't know if that matters. Everything work great now.

I was having a lot of issues with this part - there were a few steps I missed in between - my security groups were setup correctly, FTP installed correctly, etc. but those extra items like adding svchost.exe and creating a defined user group were on the money - much appreciated!

You can try checking the password. When you create your user you must uncheck "User must change password at next logon".

Hello, sorry for the very late reply. Though you might already solved your problem, what I usually do in this case is to edit the security group for that EC2 instance, and allow only IP ranges/countries that you want.

Hi, when you create your ftp user on the settings you can copy-paste your password from a text file. This way, so you can be sure you are typing the correct password when you connect.

Hi. Everything is going fine until 11:29 when I have to ftp localhost in the command prompt. I get the following error:- 530-User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible. Win32 error: Access is denied. Error details: File system denied the access. I created two users to make sure I hadn't made a mistake with the first one and I get the error for both. Make sure you created the group FTP_Users and placed that user in the group. If you did, then just restart the service and try again. It will work.

I had a same error, I fixed it by adding all access of ftp site for the ftp user: 1. Go to Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager 2. Expand the 'Sites' on left hand menu 3. Find the site you crated for FTP, in this video it is 'FTP', then right click on it, click 'Edit permissions' 4. Click 'Security', find Group or user names, click 'Edit', then click 'Add' 5. Find Enter the object names to select, input your ftp user (in this video to is 'optimusprime' ), click ok 6. Find 'Permissions for SYSTEM' check allow for 'Full control' 7. Click 'Apply' and then click 'OK' Done, give it a go :)
