FTR Hare Scramble #4 - Punta Gorda 12/10/2023 - Melon Bash 9 by OSDR (MASTER C, from last to 12th)

A pretty bad day on the trail for me this time, first I have a terrible start and end up at the end of the pack - I usually start 2nd gear in and for some reason I was in neutral when I let go off the clutch... - Nevertheless, I'm trying to make my way back in front and here I go kissing a tree (4min15sec) I'm now last, get back up and continue my journey, now the trail is completely backed up and I can't pass much riders but I'm still trying to get back when suddenly my left calf gives up on a whoops section. Now that I have a torn calf muscle, I can't stand on the bike anymore so I have to finish the race seating down the whole time... roller coaster style, and I hit the deck one more time. My back feels it today. I still managed to finish 12th. I never gave up.

I was at the race yesterday watching. The GoPro does good at making the track look smooth but I know better. Nice job.👍🏻

Thank you, yes the trail was beat yesterday, it was mostly the same as last season race and I think they probably didn’t do much rehabilitation of the trail. I had a hard time especially on the tight sections, and my big bore 500cc doesn’t help either. I torn my calf muscle right into the second lap and I had to finish seating down, that was quite a ride.

Way to hang in there and finish! Tough sport for our age. I was dead last BTW! My bike wouldn’t start on the line. I passed you at 1;40.

That 500 is a big bike to handle for hare scrambles. Smaller bike would help you tremendously.

What camera are you using? Be lucky to get 60 minutes out of mine. Good job! I should've been racing but had to take care of the bike due to the mud fest at armadillo 😂 Brooksville 👃

I’m using a GoPro 11, extra wide angle / max stabilization / 4K recording, on a chest mount, sitting right under my helmet. You’re right about the battery it doesn’t last long enough to shoot the whole race, so I’m using a small battery pack (the ones you use for cellphones) taped under the mount and feed the GoPro battery via a charging cable through an aftermarket battery door that has a hole on it to allow the cable to connect to the GoPro. It sounds complicated but it’s very simple, that way I can record up to 4 hours in full definition. Too bad you couldn’t make it at Punta Gorda, see you in Brooksville 👍
