Hey! I like the genre a lot and appreaciate your work as there are not a lot of tutorials on this! Yet, I am a novice and all of these stoner rock songs are always in wild tunings, are there any cool riffs you can recommend that are in standard or at least just drop D? Also, can I still play songs in D standard in E standard, will it sound okayish? Thank you!

Hey there! Some great questions. I’ll have more of a think about some cool stoner riffs in standard/Drop D to explore, but off the top of my head. ‘Seer’ by Witch, bands along the lines of Brant Bjork, Red Fang, Qotsa (later albums), possibly Clutch? Can’t go wrong with some early Sabbath. A bit off the stoner track but nonetheless still awesome would be Tool, Helmet and Melvin’s, Metallica of course too. All the above would be worth checking out for some Standard and Drop D riffage goodness. I’ll keep at it. In terms of playing in E standard vs D standard. You definitely can still play in that tuning it just won’t sound as ‘heavy/beefy’ in a sense. But still great for your overall practice until you get your head around the tunings! Hope that helps in some way. Cheers 👍
