That explanation of westbrook and simmons makes so much sense. They should take a page out of the explosive guys who learned how to harness their fast-twitch dial so they can still maintain touch. Drose comes to mind with his floater/mid range game, for someone as explosive as he used to be, he was a master at softly hitting that floater.

I was a leaper in college. Could slash and shoot off balance/off the dribble comfortably, but never could find a consistent rhythm with catch and shoot threes. (I actually could shoot step back threes at a higher clip than regular catch and shoot.) back in my day coaches would lose their minds over it though 😂 Truth is, I never figured out a reliable catch and shoot mechanic. Really interesting hearing this perspective. You can really see why the game gets better every year with analysis and coaching like this. Keep up the great work, guys.

What they'd have to do is watch 87-92 jordan to learn how to stop on a dime, transfer the momentum upwards into your shot and release at the top or just slightly before the top , to adjust the shot. Jordan was king of the 1-2 pull up, the hop from a running start into a jumper , and fading away from either side off the one- two pull-up. Jordan was the personification of "fast-twitch" muscles. For a time Westbrook did somewhat have the stop on a dime or hop into a jumper from midrange, but overtime he's percentages decreased.

Such an underrated comment about the “cutting the quick twitch”. You could be amazing at shooting midranges during practice but consistently getting into the midrange pocket during the game is what sets the Ant-Mans, KDs, Tatums and Devin Bookers aparts. Unless you’re 6’10, you need to have that in your game if you want to average 30 a game

One of the issues with Russ is also nerves. He finds it hard to relax in games where he is struggling. Guys like Harden, CP3, Holiday, Lowry, and Conley stay relaxed even on nights where their shots are not falling or they are missing shots around the rim. He's actually a fairly decent shooter when he is relaxed and doesn't hesitate. Even at the free throw line you can sense his tension at times. I think it's just something a team has to live with and balance it out by having 2-3 scoring options that are more efficient, with Russ more facilitator, rebounder, scorer.... At this age i think a team can still get 18/8/8 from Russ as a starting pg on 46% shooting and 34% from 3... That's not bad for a #3 or #4 scoring option.... Maybe Lethal Shooter can add Russell Westbrook as a client....
