Very informative! How does the Qin Saibikoho quality compare to say Hakuhodo Saikoho ?

I just got some incredible brushes from Girlstory on Amazon - they are squirrel and goat mix with orange handles, lush quality and incredible softness. But OMG they smell like kerosene or something! I think it must be from the adhesive or paint and getting packaged up without being allowed to off gas first. I did Enkore's brush deodorizing method and they still smell. After a few days of sitting out it's a big better, but I sure hope this goes away! Is this common with Chinese made brushes? I hope this smell goes away because the actual brushes are incredibly nice.
@FudeKyun3 жыл бұрын
@Emily Rachel Gilley I do not have brushes from that store but all the recent Shou Shou Lang brushes I've ordered do not have any chemical or strong smells. Maybe a faint animal smell during wash but that's it. Qin brushes are more pungent with the animal and mothball scents. If you're sensitive to scents then I recommend Shou Shou Lang!

I've been really happy with my Chinese handmade brushes. It is nice to be able to fill in shapes and hair types that I don't have from Japanese brush makers in an affordable way. I would likely never drop $500 plus on some of the rarer hair types from Japanese makers, but am glad to be able to try them for considerably less via makers like Shoushoulang, Qin Zhi, etc.

@@chiaraf8104 Of the ones Fude Kyun mentioned that I also have, I loved the Qin Zhi ebony kabuki brush, the Qin Zhi Feng Lin (Phoenix) series (I have most of the goat eye brushes, the large goat face brush, the squirrel-fox face brush, and the combined red fox blue squirrel face brush - all are insanely soft). I also love the Shoushoulang red fox, sandalwood, and green dill series. The red fox is softer than my silver fox, which doesn't make sense because it is the same species, but there it is. I would say the Shoushoulang sheds a bit less and has less odor than my Qin Zhi brushes. I have also been liking the Qin Wu Tang ebony handled fox highlight brush, various Qin Zhi and Shoushoulang pine/canadian squirrel eye brushes (they are stronger than gray squirrel), and Qin Wu Tang fox eye brushes. Since I can't write in Chinese, I buy my brushes from Aliexpress, Qin Wu Tang (model names start with Q and Z) from the Girlstory store, Qin Zhi from the Qin Store, and Shoushoulang from the Shou Shou Store. They are all run by a lovely lady named Ada who is extremely helpful and offers great customer service.

@@PolishedHippy thank you very much for your extensive feedback - it’s highly appreciated. I‘ve bought my first batch of Chinese brushes - mainly Kolinsky and Canadian Squirrel with fancy shapes which I didn’t see often from Japanese Fude makers. In Germany you pay 19% tax on top of already expensive natural hair brushes. So the AliExpress ones would be a real alternative if the quality is comparable.
@PolishedHippy4 жыл бұрын
@@chiaraf8104 That is what attracted me to the Chinese artisan brush makers - I could get luxury hair types that were either unavailable from Japanese manufacturers, or were in the $300 plus range. I am still really puzzled why the Japanese makers claim they are having difficulty sourcing longer Saikoho grade goat hair - the Chinese makers have access to goat that is even softer than Japanese Saikoho at lower prices, so it seems to be a supplier issue more than true scarcity. I hope the Japanese manufacturers are working on some way to partner with farmers to raise the goats for the hair qualities they need rather than just give up and discontinue brushes. It makes no sense when domestic goats are readily available to raise! With my aging crepey eyelids, synthetics just do not perform the way natural brushes do and I will switch entirely to Chinese brushes before I move away from natural hair if the Japanese makers just go to synthetics.

May I ask how these compare in price point & quality to Japanese fude? 🖊 I’ve been curious for years but didn’t know where to start. That’s quite an impressive haul of beautiful brushes. Thanks for sharing!

@Jen X Thank you for watching and for your kind words! Chinese brushes are cheaper but the prices all vary depending on the series and brand. Qinzhi costs more than Shou Shou Lang in general. I will try to discuss the quality in a later video, but in the meantime I have some old Shou Shou Lang videos on my channel. Fude popularity and prices keep increasing...
@楠-u4z3 жыл бұрын
I overheard that generally speaking, for the price, Chinese cosmetic brush has better goat hair than Japanese fude; but famous fude brands use better squirrel hair, though most natural hair suppliers and trading are in China. And Japanese fude ferrule is unlikely to tarnish and oxidize.

Thank you for making this video, the brushes all look beautiful. This opens the door to Chinese brushes for fude lovers. I'm happy to hear that bundling quality went up, maybe I will dip my toes into Chinese brushes in a few years when the ferrule quality also goes up, but then I'm always scared of rare/good quality hair goes extinct. There seems to be so many Chinese brands too, and so many series in each brand, I have zero clue to where to even start.
