Fuel Tank Removal - 1996 SAAB 9000

This SAAB is having welding completed on the rear arches, this meant the fuel tank needed to be removed. Dropping the tank allows better access for the replacement of rear brake lines and is a good opportunity to check the condition of fuel tank straps.

Doesn't the fuel pump have to be removed first? Isn't the top secured to the chassis in the boot?

No you can remove the tank with the fuel pump in place, you just have to de-pressurise the fuel system, remove the feed and return line and then disconnect the electrical connector. If you remove the boot floor all of these pieces are visible under a cover panel.
