almost 40 years i've been on this planet. with this species. I tried so hard. and try so hard to be good. good to one another. pay it forwards. To show appreciation for the few that gave me a reason to stick around cause they were just such kind souls. It didn't matter what they saw me as... it wasn't enough for them to toss me aside like garbage like i have been so many times. I don't belong here. THat longing to be apart of something. And all the questions that arise from there. Do i even deserve to feel more than this? This species... though growing.. there's so much hurt. so much pain, the abandonment. the apathy and lack of empathy. I'm so tired. I'm so very tired.

I love this song. I just listened to you sing it five times in a row. Then re-listened to Ian's version, then yours again. This beautiful little song was, honestly, a stretch for Ian, which has always been a key to its beauty. You've managed to climb into the box from the other end, and with precision and restraint, fully inhabit it without breaking it at all. From now on I'm going to hear your version every time I listen to his, and vice versa.

It's pretty much all been said here one way or another but what I love about this cover is that it fully captures the mood of the original. I mean, essentially recreating it note for note and with the same vocal inflection is what makes it good, because that combination of plodding piano chords and the almost yawning vocals are what makes the original good. The whole thing exudes exhaustion! I don't think there can be a better cover than this. It's just right.
