The photo snobbery is wild with people’s reaction to this camera. Not every camera needs to be the best at everything. I’m excited about this one.
@greatestali3Ай бұрын
The thing I hate the most is that it's blind snobbery too. I don't understand how the people that have never owned this camera, because it JUST came out, are on the subreddits saying to get other cameras because this one is crap???? And the suggestions are ones that make no sense either, they are either photography based cameras or video based that cost much more than this one. The whole point of this camera is that it is supposed to do photo and video well enough at a really low price point.
@SleepyboiwonderАй бұрын
Agreed, but Fuji did get greedy and made this a stripped down version of what used to be the entry level camera (X-tXX series). This allows them to sell this at a low price while raising the X-T50 price significantly. At the very least they should’ve added a low-level in-body stabilization for this.

X-M5 is probably a great option for someone graduating from an iPhone and looking to buy their first camera. No EVF would be no big loss to a user like that, and having interchangeable lenses sets it apart from the Ricoh and other point and shoot cameras. With the good sensor and processor and quality glass, the iPhone users will be amazed. OK, no IBIS but if you aren't a content creator and are only using the camera for family and holiday snaps and videos, while adding in the film simulations makes this camera a master stroke to get new photographers into the Fuji eco system. At least Fuji knows who they are targeting with this camera, good luck to them. Can't wait to try one out.

XM5 looks really awesome. Excited to see your future review. Is this current autofocus glitch very real? I’ve been on Fuji since 2018, and I have noticed it since the last firmware update. Is the problem mostly in AF-C? I rarely use AF-C, and only do stills on my XT5 but I’ll definitely switch to single point. Dumb question: Should I turn OFF eye detect? I use my Fuji cameras to make a big part of my living, andI have since 2018. I’m a headshot photographer working in studio and natural light. In studio, I’ve not noticed any problems at all with AF. Likely because I’m between f5.6 and f8. But last two outside shoots (post firmware 4.0) I did notice about 50 out 500 (10% or so) were a bit off with the focus. I’m primarily shooting on the 56mm and not wide open. I got eye confirmation, but it focused on the tip of the nose, etc. Till Fuji fixes this, should I turn off eye tracking and stick to face detection? I did try that and got almost no misfires. Seems to do with the eye tracking giving false confirmation. I have a shoot coming up this week so help is appreciated!
@BrayGrayyАй бұрын
@@babyboy1971 Yeah, I do think the Fuji af problem pertains to the AF-C setting and AF-S is more reliable. To be honest I typically do turn off eye-detect af on the X-T50. I haven't had any autofocus problems on that camera, but I also typically don't shoot wide open. I also remapped my 'AF On' button to quickly turn on and off eye-detect. That way if I feel I need/don't need it I can quickly toggle it.

I’m an outdoor person, Love hiking and riding bikes. For those activities I was using a GRIII because of size and competence as a photographic tool. I bought it when it came out. The photos are really good but after a while I realized (again) that 18 mm respectively 28 mm is too wide for me. On top the dial on the back und recently the other dials too became totally unreliable, values jumping without reason and having no control over them at any point. As far as the net goes this problem is known. To get it fixed cost too much. So I was looking for another very compact camera but there aren’t much out there. Now the x-m5 was introduced and it might just fit my purpose. The kit lens though is out of question. I rather have the 16-50 or the 27 mm pancake lens. The price ist really good on the x-m5. But I will maybe wait to see what an x-e5 might be.

They seem to be positioning the camera as more for video than stills, but I would definitely have concerns about the battery life for video - especially with some of the more demanding recording modes like 6k open gate or 4k60p. And for a stills camera, IBIS and an EVFs are must-haves for me personally. So not something I would really consider as either a video or stills camera, and would opt for either the X-S20 or X-T50 (or their bigger brothers the X-H2S or X-T5). But if my budget was under $1000, then yeah this thing would definitely be on my list!

Great video! I’m in the market for a camera for the first time since an old entry level Canon DSLR back in the mid 2000’s. Not looking to break the bank and have been stuck between GR III, XM-5 and Sony A6400/ZV E10. Mainly for vacations, family pictures and some landscape stuff! Video not important but nice bonus. Love how compacted GR III is but not sure if the fixed lens is too limiting as only camera.
@BrayGrayyАй бұрын
Yeah, the thing with the GRiii line is you kind of need to know your preferences beforehand as far as focal length goes. Do you anticipate wanting to shoot more wide shots?... the GRiii is good for that at 28mm. Do you want to get shots that are closer to the field of view that your eyes normally see?.... the GRiiix works for that at 40mm. If you're unsure which focal length best resonates with you, I'd recommend the X-M5 to get something that's almost as compact but gives you focal length options with the ability to add a compact zoom lens.

I've tested my Fujifilm X-S20 AF against my soon to be replaced Sony ZV-E10 and I'd give the edge to the X-S20. When shooting video, the Sony is not quite as quick to snap back to the subject when something comes between the subject and the camera. At times it hunts in those situations. The AF tracking on the X-S20 is a major upgrade over the X-S10. Whatever is plaguing the X-H2S firmware updates does not automatically apply to other Fujifilm cameras. Reviewers should not make the assumption that all Fujifilm cameras have those issues. The specs of the X-M5 blow the ZV-E10 out of the water and remain well ahead of the Mark II version of the Sony. The Sony ZV is a clumsy camera to use if we want to take control as everything is a menu dive. To make matters worse, the old Sony menu is a joke. It's basically a camera for phone users meant to be used in idiot mode and not a serious camera like the X-M5 with its external controls. BTW, the articulated screen makes using it bright light easier as it's possible to work the tilt to manage the glare and just like the GRIII, the Fujifilm screen brightness can be increased or decreased according to lighting conditions. The battery life of the X-M5 should be better than the GRIII. My X-M5 is on order and I'll be waving goodbye to the Sony together with my frustrations with it.
