@Lee Zavitz Please friend, give me your advice, watching your channel looks like you know everything about fuji - i am buying X-t4 at the moment, what lenses do you recommend? From what i've seen on the youtube (watched everything i think :)) x-t4 + fringer pro ii + canon EF lenses works best in terms of autofocus in video. What do you think, for video and photo, best overall lenses to buy with fuj? Tasks - 1) studio photoshoots - cloths for marketplaces, 2) ad/campaign shoot video/photo, 3) vlog capability (autofocus and angle) Need tier list of lenses :) Thank you in advance Lee, will be very glad if you help, keep up great job.

Hoy there Lee, wondering about your experience with the lens. Did an unbiased test of the new 50mm f/1 and old workhorse 56mm f/1.2 side by side. Turned out 50mm was actually sharper wide open, but single point AF keeps hunting even on stationary subjects with camera on tripod, ie. shooting multiple frames in a row it's about 50/50 keeper rate to an extent that using high speed burst is the way to go. Also dof is so shallow that even slightest movement causes focus to miss. Very challenging lens, that makes 56mm 1.2 easier to work with for many.

Nice review. Not sure why softness with these photos is problematic. The softness in my view adds character to the photo. I think photographers are way too focused on sharpness when photographing people. This is a nice lens for those who need it but the cost delta between it and the 56mm f1.2 isn't worth it. I would have prefered an updated 35mm f1.4, making it an f1.2 and the 23mm f2, making it an f1.2 lenses as well.

u know what i liked the most about this review ? You!..dude . i’ve been following you for quite a while now...and one can notice your skills...dexterity....and fluidity while working..developing very strongly. You’re having a good time, you make the model feel at ease, and you know what you want, both from the model and from framing and lighting. I hope you stay humble, man.. I had to praise this...but the most difficult thing is to keep your ego in check with comments like these.. So..in a way...hehehe..sorry. but kudos! to you anyway . And btw.. Kudos to the model too. She looked incredible, with either less or more makeUp. To my eyes she is one of those ppl that look great, but you don’t notice how great she looks and the femininity she exudes, until u get really close. And the closer u get the better she looks. As for this lens...well.... I gave up on it, as soon as they announced it would be a 50 instead of the 33mm.. I wouldn’t get it, either.. but i’m still waiting for an alternative to the 56mm f1.2 (namely faster AF). The 8:27mins shot, as well as the 100% crop look stunning, and the last shots, with the vines & black dress with white spot, are brilliant . Thanks very much for the video, cheers from Portugal ;)

@ghas41512 жыл бұрын
You say it’s not sharp wide open, but then you deliver the photo at 8:30 mark with the model’s eyes tack sharp. Do you think you may have been struggling with the AF due to the shallow depth of field? I’ve heard someone else say that on the newer X-H2 cameras, the 50mm f1 seems to hit with sharper focus on the eyes more reliably.

Lee, I would be curious to see if you use Fuji on a daily basis. I know you shoot predominantly with Canon/Sony but you continued to say f1 here is "pretty soft" when that's not the case at all. Yes, f2 and on is "sharpER" but it's not soft by any means at f1. I think your expectation for "digital sharpness" SOOC is a bit too high. With that being said, it's a great review and I enjoyed the video. You always do good stuff. But would've loved to hear some insight into how the f1 on this lens is actually quite sharp when you look at it from a relative viewpoint.
@LeeZavitz4 жыл бұрын
It’s very soft. I chose the best images that were the sharpest. It think it has more to do with how razor thin the depth of field is. If it shifts or model slightly moves it could be the reason. But I didn’t want to fill this video of very soft images. So I Posted the best. I wouldn’t make a statement about a lens being soft unless it was. It sharpens up nicely around f2 and this is coming from years of experience shooting wide open on my 56mmf1.2 and it being extremely sharp. I even made a video about it at the start of the year

Good demonstration as always. I still can't justify going the high end route on X-mount. For a price of high end APSC Fuji + couple fast lenses you are already above the price of a Full Frame Camera + fast lenses and in most cases the Full Frame camera and lenses will deliver better results/flexibility. It's not like there is a size advantage at that point. Can't wait for the Sony A7 iv.

Hey dude! Been browsing your videos, and loving it so far. I feel like you are one of the most neutral channels when it comes to camera brands. I am debating whether to get the XT4, or the a7iii, and was wondering if you could help me out! I'm a hybrid shooter, trying to get more into video, but I still do photography both paid and as my hobby. I feel like the XT4 would be the better choice for video, but the a7iii is a little nicer for photography. I've shot with the Canon 5d mk3 multiple times, and I really like the 24-70 f2.8 lens. It's probably my favourite when it comes to outdoor shoots. I've always been a little disappointed in the fact that aps-c, does not really have a comparable lens that is as versatile as the 24-70 f2.8. Although Fuji lenses look really nice, they are still very pricey for an aps-c system. Been shooting sony aps-c with the three sigma primes, but I always found myself missing out on the versatility of a proper zoom. The majority of KZbin seems to prefer the XT4, but I feel like the a7iii would be a better future investment, as I feel sony will bring out the a7iv somewhere next year, with 10bit recording options as well, and by then you will have the best of both worlds (Fullframe and proper (10bit) recording modes) Which is all I ask for. But then again the a7iii feels not enough for video nowadays, and I'm a little jealous of how goodlooking the videos out of the XT4 are, which makes it very tempting to buy. Both cost about the same in my country, so pricewise there shouldn't be too much of a difference. If I'll get the Sony I will probably be getting the sigma lenses, which are maybe a little bit more expensive than the comparable Fuji lenses, but not by much. It's a lot of writing, but I have been holding back on purchasing something new for more than a month now, because for someone reason I can't make up my mind. If you could help me out a bit, it would be great! :)
@LeeZavitz4 жыл бұрын
It’s a hard choice. They are both so good in different ways. Fuji has great image quality and lighter more compact lenses with way better video features. But a7iii has better dynamic range. Much better autofocus. Fullframe look. And I personally feel the Sony lenses perform much better with less focus issues. That said you can’t go wrong with either system. Any like you said. If you get into Sony now. The a7iv probs comes out next year and crushes everything in its path

The thing is that you actually are not winning much when yeah, you have an f1 lens on paper, but you basically can't use it at f1 regularly because of the softness or because of too much light coming in; this lens is really expensive. My experience with the 56mm f1.2 has taught me that, off course, depending on the type of work you do, the hype behind extremely fast lenses is just that. In my opinion 2.8 will be a sweet spot naturally to have a nice bokeh, a nice subject isolation, and nice sharpness. Unless you are someone that knows how to use those extremes apertures, f1 is not that big of an advantage in the end. I am now even using a 55mm 1.7 Minolta MD analogue lens with adapter on my XH1 and yes, I miss the reliability of autofocus, but image quality is right around this ballpark. I had to sell all of my gear due to the impact the COVID situation had in my personal finances, and now am gradually going back to basics, so money is important, I would buy 2 56mm 1.2 any day before spending the same money in this one, to win nothing in terms of anything, hehe. Nice pictures, and a very cool insight in the way you do your photography work. New Sub!!
@LeeZavitz3 жыл бұрын
I agree. Fast glass is usually hype. It’s tough to make it practical most of the time. Usually I’m not shooting past f1.8 with even f1.4-1.2 lenses.

I’m somewhat disappointed . 1 it’s not good for events. focusing issues. Focus extremely slow. I stay missing the moments. The 56mm response time is by far better. The 56mm snaps quicker. I hate when I’m on f/2 and I mis focus at 3000 sec shutter in bright day light. Not worth the upgrade I prefer the 56mm. The good, when it nails pics, it’s beautiful. Perfectly said it’s a Novelty lens. If you want better performance get a fringer pro 2 adapter buy some some EF mount especially the sigma art line these lens new life to the Fuji Sensor.
