Fujifilm has several focus modes in their various cameras available. In this video tutorial I give an overview of the focus modes including single point focus, zone focus, wide/tracking, ALL, back button focus and manual focus.

Hi Chris, I watched the video on your site, and searched on KZbin for a reply on it: I wonder if the Shutter AF -> AF-S -> No in the video not has to be be AF-C -> No, as you mention you use it with Cont Focus. I tried it out, With the AF-S - No the Shutter-Button-Focus does not work with Focust on S, while it still works on C, though on C both the Back-button-Focus and the Shutter-button-Focust work. I do find it a handy function for example to keep the dog in focus and have the light been set just when you press the shuttor button.

Awesome thanks. The AF Fuji is the only thing keeping me away from the brand. I bought an x100v and really enjoying it in single shot mode.

Very useful video, thank you. I do find that today’s cameras are so good at auto focus that continuous focus with tracking is pretty good. Zone focusing relies on good light to get that good aperture with a good distance. It is something I will have to try more. I’m lucky enough to have a Ricoh GRIII with snap focus. BUT, I seem to get more success with continuous! You have to be good at judging distance! I will try it more. Ail safe for street, if you have the lighting.

Hi I have an xt3 and I have a video focusing question I want to be able to Use touch to focus while recording video but when in manual mode it wont let me. When I change focusing to S mode I can touch to fucus while recoding but cant see any focus peaking I want to be able to use Focus peaking and touch to focus while recording in 1 mode, how can I achieve this? Thank you

Thank you so much, Chris. Ever since upgrading to the XT5 from the XT3, I have been unable to achieve perfect focus when tracking a moving subject, like a dog running towards me. The frustrating part is that the green focus square stay right on him but when I get the images on the computer, it looks like the focus is slightly off finding focus just behind the subject. I have tried three different lenses. I have been back to Fuji and I have seen several videos outlining this problem. I’m sure with a high end camera like this, there must be some setting that is just off. Any suggestions?

the latest firmware 4.0 improves autofocus and specifically the false focus issues. that being said, go to af/mf settings page 3 > release/focus priority, and set both af-s and af-c to focus. the default is to prioritize shutter release time in af-c mode, which i suspect contributes to a lot of slightly out of focus shots for people.

It’s my wife’s bass. It’s an acoustic bass - the make is Cordoba
