Actually one could argue that this body needs a vertical grip even more than a 3:2 aspect 35mm equiv. camera as verticals with 4:3 aspect are far more usable. Also, with the IBIS, the camera should be comfortable shooting vertical *handheld* for portrait photographers. Those people may need the GFX 100 option.

Chris, from my point of view wrong about the 14-Bit vs. 16-Bit RAWs. Maybe you don't see a difference directly. But it gave you a good reserve while editing. I have shot the same scene, a nice sunrise with delicate colours in 14 and 16 Bit. The gain in post are great. I have done the same processing and it was a noticeable difference. The rendering of light is really beautiful (I hope I do not try to justify the money ;-) ) BTW: You can check the review done by Andy Mumford.

Excellent review. I know, I know... this isn't a sports camera. But based on your experience, do you feel that one could comfortably shoot, say, a live performance event with it (how is the high-iso, btw)? And do I understand correctly that if you want to shoot in 16-bit, you can only shoot on the lowest frame-rate? Also wondering if this camera has an intervalometer should one want to use it for astro work. Just to trying to determine how big the potential drawbacks really are, as I'd definitely like to make the move to an MF sensor.

GF 80mm F1.7 vs GF 110 F2. I chose GF 110 F2, which is sharper, better image quality. Also some review shows Gf80mm has some serious lagging problem.
@davidjohnbalce1111
@davidjohnbalce1111 3 жыл бұрын
@@daianxu103 depends on what focal length you'd like and neglecting another lens because it's not your preferred focal length is very inconsiderate. Some might like the 64-ish field of view and the characteristic of a softer lens. And testing the results is still important for every consumer with different views and needs.
@jacobh5817

I tried both last week on the GFX100 and very briefly the GFX100S. Though the GF110 is much larger, I really prefer it. IQ is a bit better in the GF110 but I was esp. disappointed with the AF in the GF80. Hunting quite a bit back and forth on both cameras, sometimes even unable to acquire focus and quite loud like an old XF35/1.4. The GF110 felt much better. My experience is consistent with some other reviewers, so I don’t blame it to a damaged lens.
@davidjohnbalce1111
@davidjohnbalce1111 3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobh5817 yes, I do agree that in some aspects the GF 110mm f/2 is superior. But, what I am after is who is it for. Who should use it. When to stop down to remove chromatic abberrations, how compact it is, how it feels in the hand, etc. The field of views are different on both lenses, right? Does that mean that I should just go tighter and suck it? I don't believe that suggesting just one lens for everybody is a good advice. I gladly support this channel for their content and robbing them the opportunity to review according to Fuji "the fastest lens for Medium Format" is just sad. Their content is equally as important as other people you support. I like how they present their data and "real world" results. It's not just about "your" preferences, it's for people who want or likes that focal length and if they are willing to put up with the compromises of the GF 80mm f/1.7.
@jacobh5817
@jacobh5817 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidjohnbalce1111 I fully agree that when you need the 80mm focal length, that’s what you should go for. Just saying that if you have the room to take a few steps back and don’t mind the slightly stronger compression, the 110 is the better lens. Dustin Abbott has done a review of the 80/1.7. He’s very thorough in his reviews.

It am starting to consider this camera, because I used and loved the 1Ds III, 1Dx III and now thinking about getting the R3. But, I do a lot of portrait work. And while it is nice to have some fast FPS for certain shots. It's not really that needed. Mostly had it for my birding side of things and events. But those are not my bread and butter, portraits are. So for the same money as the R3 I can get something that is plenty fast for the majority of my shoots and give me insane IQ in comparison. I don't have to have 100mp, but if I'm spending this kind of money. It's a why not. Especially since I would be buying new RF lenses anyway.

But when I subscribed I started getting all the questionable short overviews cluttering up my feed. Oh well! It’s not like I’m gonna start an angry online petition! 😂 I’m just surprised. I think a lot of creators make an extra channel for people who want more content so they can avoid cluttering up the feed of average subscribers - even if it’s decent content - because they don’t want people to unsubscribe (or maybe even click “do not recommend channel”).

Only thing is, as always, devaluation - the GFX100s being relatively still new still trades for above $9000 Australian on my end, but get this, and trust me - I am very tempted! - my local guy has a more or less original GFX100 with less than a thousand shots on the shutter, complete with box, charger and two batteries - price guv'nor then? - $7200 Australian dollars. Silliness. Rather surprised he still has it listed on his website to be honest....

Question here: I have 170mb/s and 300mb/s cards. With both, the writing sequence is several seconds. Is this normal??? When I switch to low continuous drive mode there is no lag....can someone help?
@samuelsnow7351

It has to do with the recipe you have selected. My guess is that you boosted clarity and other settings, which are ignored when in Continuous mode.

So any chance of a lens test for AF speed and 100MP quality for as many as you can borrow? Kinda a big factor in a buy decision IMHO... Also if they introduce a law allowing daughters to claim retrospective modelling fees in years to come you might be in trouble, unless you had it covered Easter-Egg wise... Plus in the gallery I see one image "JPEG (297.2MB)", I mean really??!!?? I thought 14-bit Raws were c. 100MB... ah, I think it's a miss-named 16-bit Raw file... P.S. how is the last image in your dpreview gallery a 311,648,258 byte JPEG? Surely the (not provided) Raw file was smaller than that?

The way I see it kids will ALWAYS owe their parents for the rest of their lives so... As for that last picture it's the 400MP multishot file which is ridiculous in file size.

Back in 35mm film slr days, it was not all that hard to get nice sharp images at 1/30th with a 50mm lens. Image stabilization was not a thing back then. In some ways we’re going backwards.
@josh885
@josh885 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. Even with some slight motion blur at 100% viewing due to higher MP, at the same output size any modren ILC camera, especially this one, will blow 35mm film out of the water in terms of resolution, color accuracy, dynamic range, smooth tonal transitions, ect.

Well, the images might be technically better, but the beauty of photos is subjective and many photos taken with film look better than digital ones to many people.
@josh885
@josh885 3 жыл бұрын
@@ditto1958 Film only looks better to people with rose colored glasses. It can have different looks though in terms of contrast, color saturation, and color cast SOOC. But if you want a certain film look can get that with digital. There are many film simulation presets for popular raw editors and even in camera. This camera for example uses fuji's very excellent film simulation modes which capture one supports. So you get film look but in a quality that isn't embarrassing for 2021. Film is simply worse in every way. Even artistically. Since with a digital file you can have any artistic look you want, including simulating different films. All without the need for toxic, polluting, foul smelling chemicals to develop it too.

NGL I can't see much of difference between Nostalgic Neg and Astia. It looks like a 0.5 step between Provia and Astia slightly desaturated. It would be cool to get a Natura sim someday. We're missing those in-camera mild pastel tones.

There are dozens of film simulation "recipes" for Fujifilm cameras, where people start from an existing film simulation and then alter it with exposure compensation, shadows, highlights, and white balance shift. Lots of interesting looks can be achieved with most existing Fujifilm bodies, take a look if you can use google to find articles discussing them.

@@problemat1que yeah, fuji x weekly. i don't vibe them. they mostly boil down to "use classic chrome at k6300" to get that warm tone. None of them really capture the colour rendition of the film stocks, they are just variants on the same sepia adjacent desaturated looks, because that Kodak Gold look feels retro. Like a pop album where all the songs sound like the hit single.

@They Caged Non lol no. I did that for years. It sucks all the fun and authenticity out. I run a two step workflow: click & print. If I didn't get it in the camera, then I didn't get it. It makes the victories more satisfying, and the experience more engaging with the photography part than the lightroom tinkering part. At best, I will figure out the colour balances myself, build a preset in the Canon profile editor, and just import that to the camera to shoot live. Still that doesn't fix that Fuji is kind of kicking cans on these new film simulations. C200, Natura, Pro 400 H are all great stock from them and instead we have 3 version of this vague "Classic" profile that are brown Pro NEG standard with crunchy shadows, a magenta and green tint shifting version of that, and now Astia with Colour -2. That and Eterna was just a flat green Pro NEG standard too. The variations are so mild that you could pick up an X-Pro1 and have the same amount of true-to-film classic fujifilm colour stock as this new GFX. What I'm saying is that we have 5 film simulations and 7 picture profiles, so idk if we can be calling these simulations so much as filters anymore. And you can tell since they're struggling to name them. I swear we're a year away from Vacation NEG a warm, desaturated orange and teal colour grade for travel bloggers.

@They Caged Non that's kind of my whole point. The whole thing is just iterating now, we haven't seen something fresh in a while. Even Eterna was kind of a lateral move. Yeah, landscape is a while different type of paced methodical photography unto its own. It's all the science-y tinkery bits of photography that is enjoyable for some but tedious for others. I shoot for light and moments, as-is, untouched, documented truthful images of what the camera saw only. Adapting on the fly to not lose the story in composition as it fade out down the street like a crashed wave. So spending hours with sliders and masks, dodging and burning, sky replacing, and converting and cropping in post isn't my thing. Cool when other people do it. I have seen some fantastical images that boggle the mind, but not my style.

I kind of laugh at the idea of "sports and action" shooting with a Medium format camera... Pretty incredible camera though. Think that Fuji will come up with an R (Rangefinder) version of the GFX100S as they did with the 50R? Also, Medium format sensors (over a 50 MP full frame sensor still has superior image quality because of larger pixels, and there is a special look to the colors a medium format sensor.
