Very interesting reviews as usual. Regarding composition, not only leveling is challenging but having a good composition on such a wide frame is very challenging too. You see many reviews on KZbin where the pictures taken could have been in half the frame with the same composition. Here you can tell your friend is definitely more experienced with it; quite a long learning curve I guess.

One of my friends a while back mentioned she's not a big fan of your channel because it focuses on gear in her opinion but what she fails to recognize is every gear reviewed you take it into the field and show its potential with images. I nice review of this camera, thanks! I have the X-Pan version with the 45mm lens. I noticed that the photos you shot do not have vignettes, but my do show a bit and don’t know what to do about it. The other thing that one has to be careful when loading the film, is to be sure to have the leader is well inside, otherwise you can shoot a whole roll but in fact is not in the camera spool. I happen to me once when I first got it. Now I put the camera to the back of my ear and hear the film loading.

I wouldn't worry about shooting slide film, I've shot a bunch though mine and it meters perfectly in auto. I believe the shutter is stepless in Auto as well, or at least does 1/3 stops. It does bias toward highlights you need to keep that in mind for negative film.
@leepeacher41785 жыл бұрын
I really like this camera because it gives you a “full frame” 35mm panoramic image. Often, with my digital photography I crop to an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 21:9, but to crop a “regular” 24x36 35mm film frame to these ratios would result in a grainy soft image. Unfortunately I cannot justify spending the money for an XPan. Lucky for me I have discovered medium format and can easily crop to these aspect ratios on my Bronica EC (6x6) and Fuji GW690III (6x9) with no compromise in image quality at a tiny fraction of the XPan cost. The only downside is the form factor which is definitely the XPan’s main advantage.

Fujifilm GFX has a mode of 65x24 and consider you could be using a zoom lens shooting that aspect ratio for landscape/cityscape/portraits is just awesome....but a bit on the pricey side of course.
@leepeacher41785 жыл бұрын
TheChill0ut Hopefully one of these days the price will come down a bit on the GFX. Right now even a used one is way outside my budget. The 50 isn’t that bad though if you compare it to some of the pricier full frames. For wide aspect shots I’m sure the GFX would be an awesome camera.

Great video as always! Just found one from a dealer in the UK in excellent condition but they're asking nearly £3979 (yes, it's not a misprint) for it with a standard lens. Although I love shooting panoramics and as I've already got it's big brothers the Fuji G617 and GW617, I think I'll give this one a miss:(.

Another nice review and a lot of good information. Last year I was so far near to a click on eBay, but in the end, I didn't buy it. It's a really nice camera and you get brilliant photos (I had the chance of using it for a month), but as you already mentioned in your video there are the peculiarities you have to deal with. The price is the other thing and honestly, Japanese camera shops are the worst for my wallet ;-) . I can only recommend everyone who is in Zurich to visit ars-imago, it is a pity that there is not such a shop here in West Germany (at least I haven't found one yet). My local craigslist has one for $2850. they mention a shutter count? does it count the rolls or the actual shutter count?
@ImperfectPhotography5 жыл бұрын
The count is the number of rolls shot. Note, the number is 1/10 of the actual number, i.e. multiply it by 10 to get the real number. These are really well-built cameras, so unless it is an astronomical number I would not worry too much. But it is a good indicator of wear.

why do i rarely see the TX-2? i understand if the hasselblad x-pan is very rare and expensive but why is the fuji TX-1 and TX-2 just as rare or expensive? also wish that fuji makes some digital mirrorless version of the TX-1 panorama camera haha - something like a X100 type body that doesnt allow one to change lens due to the custom lens for the new custom wider sensor to fit in which makes it "unreasonable" to create a whole new lens line up but better instead just give a single focal length fixed to the body.

Thanks for this interesting video. You got me curious about panoramic format. Just out of curiosity, how do you scan panoramic shots on 35mm film? Hope you had a good time in Zürich. Greetings from Zürich 😊
@SimonGarnier5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about most flatbed scanners, but the Epson V7XX, V8XX series come with film holders that show the entirety of the film strip (3 24x65 pictures on each strip, which would correspond to 6 pictures in regular 24x36 format), so you can scan your panoramic pictures the same way you'd do your regular 35mm pictures. When I need really high definition scans, I use my Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA (I believe called Reflecta RPS 10M in Europe) to make a scan of the left, middle and right parts of the image separately and then I stitch them in Lightroom. And if you don't want to do it yourself or want professional quality scans, most labs can handle this for you.
@TheMPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Simon Garnier thanks Simon. Good to know that the Epson V8xx series could handle the format. I have a Reflecta Proscan 10t and that one doesn’t have a panoramic scan mode to my knowledge.
@SimonGarnier5 жыл бұрын
@@TheMPhotography The PrimeFilm XA/RPS 10M doesn't have a panoramic mode either, but you can scan each portion of a picture separately and then stitch them in Lightroom or Photoshop. It's a bit laborious but you can get really high definition images this way. However, I don't think you can do this with the Proscan 10t because the film holder has plastic bits separating each 35mm image on a the strip (the PrimeFilm XA/RPS 10M doesn't use a film holder).
@TheMPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Simon Garnier yes exactly. It’s this plastic holder which separates normal 35mm photos which is the problem on the proscan 10t. Otherwise I am really happy with it.

@@TheMPhotography Another option is to "scan" the film using a digital camera + macro lens, but I usually find it tedious to clean up all the dust in Lightroom.

Fantastic photos. While the camera is financially out of reach, how do you like the strap attached to it?
@SimonGarnier5 жыл бұрын
It's not the most beautiful strap on the market but, personally and after using it for several months, I find it comfortable, lightweight, and very robust. But my favorite thing about it is that you can attach it and detach it from the camera in just a few seconds. This means that I can easily switch it between my cameras and that I don't need to buy a strap for each of them. All you need is a couple of fairly cheap anchors for each of your cameras and voilà!

For me it was NOT a Hasselblad in any way, especially with that cheapish shutter release button. 😊 Seeing it here, it is of interest. 👌 A far better deal is a Hasselblad SWC. with either a 6x6 or 6x4,5 back. ..and crop for panorama-style images. No electronics = no fears of fuji-style breakdowns.
