Fujifilm has just announced the Fujifilm XT50, and I have some thoughts about what it means for casual photographers.

Only camera that has 40MP for USD 1400 which has absolute control of everything including film simulation. Nikon Z5 is also USD 1400 but 26MP. The XT50 is incredible value for your money. 😮

I agree. I keep hearing that’s it’s too expensive, it’s cheaper than the x100vi with interchangeable lenses, 1 more stop of ibis. Sure it’s not “weather sealed” but ws is overhyped any how especially, especially for new to intermediate shooters. I’m buying one and am not a pro, nor am I a novice. I don’t need the 2 sd card slots of the XT5. Had the x-t20 for years and shot on hikes in all weather and with basic car, haven’t had any issues.

@@tonypulido8127 Agreed, and I also never understand what "beginner-to-intermediate" means in the context of this camera. This is not Fuji's entry point camera... the X-T30 II is still a part of the official lineup. And despite not being a 1:1 comparison, the X-T50 is obviously positioned above the X-S20 as well. I feel like people are only saying this because it's small. Small = beginner, for some unknown reason. The reality is this camera is a monster. I'm getting it for street and travel and I think that along with the X100VI there aren't going to be many better options in that space for a while. If you don't count the lack of weather sealing (which is a non-issue for the vast majority of people, but we act like it's the end of the world), it's literally just a smaller and lighter X-T5. Even saying it's the "successor" to the X-T30 is a bit misleading IMO, because it clearly has more in common with the X-T5. In my opinion the only real flaw with the X-T50 currently is that Fuji didn't embrace custom recipes in a more direct way (such as letting you save a unique recipe to each position on the film dial). This is a software thing and could be added later, but for me that's really the only missed opportunity.

The X-T2 is often forgotten because how ""old"" it is (it's really not that old, but we act like it is in the photography scene). The X-T2 images are still pretty much at the top of what an APS-C camera can do when it comes to image quality. Sure, there is the 40MP sensor that will give you sharper images... if you have a sharp enough lens. But at larger, even zooming 100% in the images, the difference between 24MP and 40MP is absolutely not as big as we think (mostly because of us humans react in a logarithmic way to things, not at all lineraly for things like resolution or image sharpness). The X-T2 is a camera I've used for about 2 years now, going on 3. It's a camera that I've learned to appreciate for all the things that it's able to do and the price it costs. Photography wise, it does not have all the automated subject detection modes, the [hase detection points are not across the whole frame (not as bad as the X-T1, but still there) and that scares people off : I really don't think that this would be an issue after a month of practice with the camera. Image quality as I said is more than enough for me, and I thing almost everybody. The sensor really has great high ISO and great dynamic range despite being 2 generations old. Video performance is also surprisingly good : having access to internal F-Log video is a life saver in a lot of situations that would be complicated dynamic range-wise for the regular video with film simulations. Microphone pre-amps are very decent and allow for quality sound capture straight out of camera. Autofocus in video is also very good as long as you place your fiocus point correctly. The fact that it's weather sealed and has dual SD card slots means that it can be used profesionally without too much issues, the EVF is still decent by today's standards (and big !), there's a focusing joystick in tha back, really good screen design... I have moved to "better" cameras since (X-H1, then moved to a Nikon Z6) but no matter how good or bad the "upgrade" is, I always come back to the X-T2 at some point because I'm always floored how much they packed in that thing. There is a reason why the X-T2 was the very first camera mentionned by Hugh Brownstone's "Budget Gourmet" series : It was released 8 years ago, but there was nothing really able to completely bury it... The X-T3 wasn't that much of an upgrade for photographers besides a smarter AF system, the X-T4 was way too large and with a personlity crisis, the X-T5 has huge file sizes and mostly over complicated in my opinion. For the price that the X-T2 goes for nowadays (around 500€, bought mine for 480€ 2+ years ago) it's one of the best bargains you can get nowadays, and I have absolutely zero issues calling the X-T2 the best camera you can get in its price range.

something that always impressed me is the iso performance on these cameras. they do an amazing job of keeping the noise at an acceptable level at those high isos compared to their contemporaries. the evf is also wonderful, coming from someone who started out on cameras with no evf at all :)

This camera isn’t just for Fuji users… the xt50 is near the top of size/weight vs image quality. As a longtime FF user, for its size and weight, this camera (and its new lens) offers things other cameras don’t.

I've got an xt3 and to me, the xt50 looks a lot more attactive than the xt5 at a lower cost. If it had weatherproofing, it would be perfect. Why? Smaller and lighter than the xt5. Ibis and same sensor as xt5 make it a contender. Slap the 10mm pancake on it and you have a portable beast. Unique l'd say. Use it with my 150-600 and crop the shot as needed. I think I'll switch my preorder from the 100VI to the xt50. The xt50 is smaller and i already have a buch of glass for it. Yes, it would be nice if had built in nd filter like the VI but there are always going to be compromises. So in short, a good second body to my xt3 and a small everyday carry with a pancake lens that hopefully fuji might actially be able to deliver on.

I got into the Fujifilm X series at the XT2 just after the XT3 dropped. I now shoot an XT5 but if I had extra $ to blow on a camera for fun I’d buy an XT2 again! I use to own 2 of them but needed to upgrade for work. tbh it holds a huge place in my heart. 1000% agree that the XT2 is the best beginner camera for anyone looking to get into photography with the intention to learn and grow in the craft.

As the lucky new owner of a X100VI...I highly recommend this to be honest. I sold my XT2 a while back when I got a XT4(which I'm not a fan of and also sold later) and I do regret it. I think I should've just stuck with the XT2 forever until it broke because that thing was not only great but also a durable tank that went through some shit and never failed. I'm actually tempted to flip my X100VI and go into the XT50 and some nice prime lens again. I shoot Canon professionally but need some Fuji for casual stuff.

@@hamzakhasan So I'm one of the weirdos who actually enjoys limitations, so I love it. I love being forced into certain situations that a fixed lens comes with. However, I think they should've updated the lens with this iteration. It's still a great lens but I think it's starting to show it's age.

I have an xt-2 for about 4 years, I purchased it for 500€, and I cant sell it today for the same 500...but, guess what? I dont want to sell it 😁 Big evf, intuitive dials, film simulations, built like a tank (made in japan), weather sealed...and when I think about the lack of IBIS... sorry, I dont think about that 😂 Xt-2 can handle high ISO 😉

i would not really recommend the xt2 simply because the power boards are known to fail a lot more than other models. I would recommend the t3 or t4 instead. Its not too much of a jump on the after market between the 2 and 3 but miles of more features in the 3. I also personally don't think the xc line of lenses is good for a beginner as they are not made with the most robust construction. the plastic mounts mixed with someone that is not used to having a longer lens around their neck is a recipe for tragedy. I also feel that the xt50 is a great deal for the person that is focused on travel or life style photography. it is a good deal lighter and more compact than the xt5 and having the built in flash for fill is a lot faster than fishing the fx-8 flash out of the bottom of your bag. But you are right in that if you really want a camera that will grow with you over your photography journey, the xt5 is a more versatile option. The t50 will not let you pivot to tethered shooting as it does not have that feature, it is not the best for wildlife shooting as it is not weather sealed, it is not going to be your main shooter for pro video as it cant do pro res because of the lack of cf express type b, and i feel like a lot of people are going to grow out of the novelty of the film sim dial and wish that space was used for a more practical control like iso, exp comp, or even a drive dial. But i do think it will make a solid little b camera for most of the things i just listed when you are ready to add a second body down the line. The nice thing about that line is they tend to get passed down to newer users as the auto switch on top really kinda makes them idiot proof. They are very low risk to get kid or loved ones into digital photography and teach them to focus on subject and composition before getting into the technical aspects of the exposure triangle and optical physics. Sorry to rant, i work with these cameras and their customers every day. great video even if i do have a slight difference of opinion.

appreciate your input! the power board issue is not something i knew about, so thanks for letting me know. i'm really torn on the film sim dial myself since the recipes are something i use almost every time i'm out shooting (mainly black and white options) but i ended up solving that by binding the front shortcut button to the submenu. i really wish fuji had menu options to convert the iso dial to a film sim dial on all of their bodies. thanks for the feedback!

@@hamzakhasan np. I will say the t2 and the t20 seemed to have shared the same issues, i guess in manufacturing or something. Oddly the h1 which is pretty much the same board did not have the same level of power board issues. I do think video users would see a lot more of a jump in focus speed and format options on the xt3, to the point h1 users were really annoyed when it came out only 6 months after the h1 and made it pretty much pointless, except for the ibis. I still think the h1 is a lot more comfortable than the t2 or t3 but i have big meaty hands that need that grip. that is why my go to now is the h2, s20, or the gfx 100s. I do love to use a modified xt4 for ir photography as that is what i have access to but i am in the process of getting a modded gfx 100 classic for ir.

I was looking forward to purchasing this body. Istanbul isn’t priced low enough compared to the XT5. The film simulations dial seems ill advised because it can’t be reprogrammed. I will purchase the XT5. Want a small Fuji body? Consider the XT30. Want IBIS? Look at the XS10/20. I don’t want the 40MP sensor. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Absolutely disagree. I think you missed the most important point which is the portability of the X-T50. Its small and light and THATS reason no.1 why this camera is interesting. Why to buy the bigger and havier X-T5 when I can get a full frame camera with same dimensions and weight???
@hamzakhasan
@hamzakhasan 26 күн бұрын
sure, that's a great point. for me, the size is a bit of a detriment and i honestly don't notice the weight difference since i need a bigger camera body (this is coming from someone who's shot on an nex-5r for a year). regarding the full frame argument, i think there's nothing wrong with sticking with crop sensors especially if you have a good library of lenses. you get a lot out of sticking with the system
