Thank you Benj for the thoughtful overview. Shopping (in vain) for an X100V two years ago resulted in buying an X-Pro3 which I do not regret for a minute. With the X100V's successor, THE new feature I'm looking for is that I can actually find one!

Bought the x100v in 2020 as a second camera for my 5D mkiv. I then upgraded my canon for an R5 and as much as I like it for real projects, my x100v was my favorite camera ever. Just sold the x100v 4 days ago to finance a new computer, but there’s no doubt, I will buy the x100vi. I agree with the internal storage, that would be amazing because a lot of times, I would have love to shoot with the x100v for paid contracts, but was using the canon for the dual cards necessity 😅

I like all of your proposed improvements and would really like to see them implemented in an X-Pro 4. The X100 series design is truly timeless, but I don’t mind the slight increase in bulk and weight in exchange for the ability to change lenses. Also, since the X-Pro bodies are already a bit larger, the increased grip necessitated by introducing a larger battery would not seriously alter the design aesthetic. As always, the real test will be one of patience. I’m sure that there will be incredible demand for the X100 VI and an X-Pro successor.

It is one of my favorite camera of all times. I'm a Fujifilm shooter, most of my gear is Fuji and I used to own a 23 f/1.4 - most of the time It was glued to one of my cameras, so I decided if I was going to use 23mm most of the time I would get the X100V instead as my 2nd camera and lower the weight a bit. It honestly became my go-to camera for all my personal work, including the one I took everywere with me... for reference I took 45% of all my photos in 2021-2022-2023 with this camera (I did a quick analysis on LR).

I got lucky with an x100v and picked one up while stores were discounting them and used prices were dipping below €1000, even if I wasn't quite that lucky. I honestly thought I overpaid with €1100 used, while new ones were €1250. But the writing was on the wall for me last July, it became obvious a new one was coming, so I sold at the peak and set the money aside for the x100VI. Looks like I might even get some change. My decision to sell was in part because I also picked up an x-t5, and found the way it renders colours superior. The 16 2.8 with cropability became my lightweight combo to replace the 100v. But I preferred the 23mm f2 on the V to the way the 23 1.4 LM WR renders and have been patiently waiting! The 40MP sensor is great news. I was doubting whether I really needed the V or VI with the compact x-t5 and small prime. But there have been numerous times I've comply not taken a camera because of self conscious reasons or not wanting to stand out generally and had to make do with a phone. It may not be super compact, and it won't be my everyday camera, but can't wait to own one again. Got my reservation in already at the photo store in town. Already on their inventory.

The vertical tilt would be fun but only if they manage to do it without getting bulky. Not something that would make me upgrade from my X100V though. The only thing I'm really missing is a wider range of aspect ratios, but that could easily be added with a firmware update. This camera is pretty optimal as it is, I love it. One thing people don't mention enough is the lossless teleconverter: it's like having two additional lenses with equally perfect optics. I've never seen this on another camera before.

The only reason that could make me upgrade which will most likely never happen is an X100 with a proper manual focus and distance scale to provide the optimal tool for street photography. (I don't need IBIS nor 40MP)
@benbunch415910 ай бұрын
They have this built into the software and in the viewfinder and it works great. You don't need it written on the lens. It shows you zone focus scale in units you choose and adjusts the range based on the aperture you're set to and the shows you the correct hyper focal ranges for your focus point. If you really want it written on the lens for reasons I don't understand you could just use an X-Pro or another Fuji and adapt or use a manual lens that has this. Doing this digitally and putting it right there on the screen and viewfinder works perfectly well for zone focusing for street. In fact that's a great way to use manual focus with the optical viewfinder without relying on the digital patch.

@@benbunch4159 I am 100% with you on this very function that I use today. But actually very often I involuntarily come across the focus ring and discover long afterwards that I have changed the focus plan. Of course, I take this mistake on my part. Therefore I think it would have been cool to have visible numbers on the lens itself. As for your second suggestion, I have to admit that I like the size and shape of the X100V more than the Xpro. Xpro feels heavy/big in my hands. And OVF is a must (many other choices fall outside my needs) Something we should be allowed to complain about, right? I keep dreaming🤭😂

Ibis and internal memory would tempt me to upgrade from my f. The other stuff, not so much. I’d guess the memory addition would be quite simple and cheap for Fuji to do As I’m incredibly old I recall that carrying extra film rolls along was never regarded as a problem by anybody so an extra battery does not bother me. Of course no one will complain about any upgrade which comes our way in a new model. It’s just a question of which would get your cash

I’ve owned the X100F for 2 years now and it actually still feels very fresh to me. Paired with the WCL it has become my favourite camera for street/documentary photography. The only reason why I have thought about upgrading to the V (or VI) is that it has the Color Chrome Effect and it would allow me to use exactly the same recipes as on my Xpro 3. But a 1000 euro premium for just that feature is a little bit too much 😅

Since you asked, I feel compelled to offer feedback. As a previous owner of the original X100 and also the X100V (as well as the X-H1, X-Pro3, and GFX 50s) I would really like to see Fujifilm address the long-standing issue of shooting wide open with the X100 cameras at shutter speeds greater than 1/250 (for example, outdoors) and killing the out of focus (bokeh) areas in the image - apparently this is an inherent limitation of Fujifilm's implementation of the leaf shutter. The built-in ND filter is a band-aid that only provides enough attenuation in borderline cases.. My Ricoh GR cameras are also leaf shutter cameras and do not have this problem. Fujifilm apparently redesigned the lens for the X100V - they should have addressed the shutter issue as well. Electronic shutter is not a solution for a camera at this price point, touted as a rangefinder-like experience. Also, given the portability of the camera and its reputation as a "street" camera, it should also be fully weather sealed without having to kludge together a solution based on adapter rings and filters. It's a fixed lens, come on Fujifilm. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but hopefully critique from experience will make things better.

This is different from displaying the histogram in the OVF. As far as I know, this little EVF pop-up (the fuji manual refers to it as the "ERF") can only be used to display different magnifactions of the image as a focus assistant. I want the ability to use it for something else - like the historgram. The reason is because the dark backing would make the histo much easier to see compared to the standard white histogram in the OVF, which can become hard to see in bright conditions.

@@RichardSilvius ah yeah that little guy. My S doesn't have it and I do miss it from my dearly departed (stolen) F. Personally I don't see a use for that patch other than for manually focusing and I get why Fuji doesn't either. The metering is done through the lens so if you wanted to you could just stick your finger in front of that corner of the OVF to get more contrast there. Really the less edge case feature you are asking for is brighter (and more user adjustable) OVF overlays. Personally I think the the biggest issue with Fuji's histogram across all cameras is it disappearing when you half press the shutter.

Had the camera for 2 years. It's a lot less imperious than some claim and I think there are a lot of areas for improvement, including I think a couple of big things. No I don't mean ibis which I could take or leave for 23mm! Things that bugged me that I'd like to see improved: - improve the AF a lot. It's accurate but slow, especially in lower light. - EVF resolution is poor, improve that - OVF magnification is poor, improve that - stop it heating up just by being on - filters only possible with a step up ring, fix that - WR only with fugly adapters need to be fixed and made fully WR without - dual storage, whether internal, micro SD or dual SD - less plasticky dual iso/SS dial - bring back d-pad - 3-way tilt - better battery life - slim it down so that it's genuinely compact if possible. On the sensor, I have the x-t5 from the x-t3. I sold the x100v in part because I preferred the IQ of the 40MP. The colour rending is just better, closer to the x-trans III goodness. And if any camera should get a 40MP sensor it's one with a fixed lens and digital cropping functions! As to low light, noise levels are comparable if not better than the 26MP up to about iso 6400 - at least what noise there is is smoother comparing at the same magnification, more like film grain and therefore less noticeable. From 6400-10,000 the x-trans IV has a slight edge, but the noise of the 40MP is more pleasant and the image is sharper retaining more detail. For me the resolution is the least important aspect of the 40MP sensor, it's the impressively better dynamic range and improved colour rendering that come first - extra important for a camera you might be shooting jpegs more with to make use of film SIM recipes.

I had the X100V and there's nothing I'd really need changed to enjoy the camera. Ibis, a faster lens, better autofocus and a bigger battery would all be welcomed but not completely necessary for me. Thinking outside the box a built-in tungsten filter for the flash would be nice or even a really compact accessory flash that can bounce.

Cool video, but I am just wondering why so many people always make a connection with “longer” or “bigger” as more professional? Is it just because everyone wants this camera to look more expensive, or like a Leica? Is it to get that classic Garry Winogrand with M look? Some professional photographers like Terry Richardson shot almost exclusively on Yashica point and shoots, that didn’t look professional but had excellent lenses. Based on my experience, professional features are things you typically don’t see, but that make all the difference: dual card slots, better battery performance, incredible lenses, o-rings on all doors and cavities, stacked sensors, flexible buttons for quick access to settings, and to some degree the ability to changes lenses (not just adapt them). Some of this can be found in these Fuji cameras, but professional photography is more about understanding the tools you have and how to use them to compose stellar images. All of that said, the X100V/VI is capable of being a professional tool, and I’m not going to argue that having a beautiful tool isn’t inspiring.

Internal storage would be fantastic. I'd jump in but after using the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 at low light event venues, and being thrilled with the results, I can't see a place in my work bag, but man is it a thing of beauty, and I love how you have jazzed it up with the accessories.

Battery grip is dope, but you have to take it off to change the battery and drop in a new card.

You can get them though. People get them weekly from the big stores.

Improving into a 40 MP camera is quite good, I think.

It’s pretty much already been confirmed that it’s the 40mp sensor and IBIS. See ya on 20th Feb 👍

FujiRumors "confirmed" that IBIS will be on the new version :D

Sort of hope it has a slightly bigger lens,.. maybe a 35mm.

I would love to see a faster lens, 1.6 or 1.7, a better battery and please not a big 40mp sensor. 24 or 26 mp fits everything for a everyday camera.

Fuji rumors saying 40 MP with IBIS as differences so far. He’s much more reliable than the Sony rumors guy 😂

I have a X100F and I’m disappointed in it, I would only upgrade to a X100VI if they upgraded it to a full frame sensor and came out with an option of a 50 mm lens standard.

I am always surprised how people make it that their cameras look like brand new although they are three years old. My two years old X100V looks waaaaay more used ...

what we know - same 23mm f2 lens - new ibis system - new 40M sensor - similar body size
@datdudeinred10 ай бұрын
I think everyone knows the only improvements that will probably come are 40mp & ibis. I hope I'm wrong but that's likely. I wish the evf is improved. Probably the biggest negative in the x100 series

Those changes would make for a bigger and, with the tilting screen, non elegant camera, which then wouldn't be the Fujifilm X100 anymore. If those changes are needed for professional work then it would be more reasonable to get one of the Fujifilm offerings for professional work. I don't understand why get a camera for its appealing, and then think its appealing should be diminished to end with a boring camera.

I think the only imp[improvement I'd like to see is.... Fuji, meet the demand. No use watching a review of a camera that for MONTHS remains unavailable die to lack of product AND the used go for 2 or 3 times the amount of the new.

How are you going to cram the bigger battery into that foot print? Huh? If you’re a pro you always carry extra batteries!

I had the X100T and feel since then this line has got worse. The tilt screen is out of place and fragile. The over engineering adds cost and that's all, and the auto focus is still terrible.

In 5 or 10 years time SD cards will not exist we will have the technology to build 2 or 3 TB into a camera With no problems at all I've been saying 45 years get rid of SD cards they are stupid deadset we can build memory into cameras now more goodness we can put a TB into a smart phone 📱

I'm shocked how many fellow Americans can't stress properly myriad of words . such example we may observe here . here indeed in abundance . its not compa'ct , it is Co'mpact - adjective . and in some cases yet also not proper for gen English one may say compa'ct - signaling that its a verb .

How ironic that you complain about someone's pronunciation (which by the way is a ridiculous complaint) whilst making numerous grammatical errors in your comment. As a linguist, I can say pedants and prescriptivists like yourself only do harm to language.

I am shocked that you're being this nit-picky about language, when your reply is borderline incomprehensible

I’m shocked you took the time to write a comment about something as negligible and inconsequential as the manner in which the creator pronounced a single word in a very helpful, informative, creative, and - as others have pointed out - free bit of content.

True, but if you’re going to complain, put the IPA emphasis markers where they belong ;) _com'pact_ and _'compact_ is what it would have to be. ;)
