Great video! I personally went with 2 x XH2s bodies. Yes I need the video, but to be honest, as a photographer, the versatility with the speedy stacked sensor means I can take ANY job. I shot a high-end kids party recently (pony rides, jumping castles etc) and kids don’t stay still for more than a millisecond, and the fast autofocus and zero rolling shutter, this camera is actually the better photography camera for me. Nothing against the XH2, but I think overall, the ‘s’ model is a broader-use body.

Agree, I too choose the X-H2S and I like it so much that I am considering a second one. I think it’s the perfect hybrid camera made by anyone so far. The balance of speed and a reasonable resolution that doesn’t overwhelm you with data is a fantastic combination which I consider perfect for me. I am a Sony full frame shooter for many years, but the X-H2S is exactly the camera I have been looking for all these years.

What a fantastic review!! I got a X-H2S (just two weeks before the X-H2 was launched) and truly love it. I thought I'd shoot video but have gone down a rabbit warren on landscape photography and loving the results but wanting for a little more resolution. I've also invested heavily in the glass. I've started to contemplate medium format but do prefer the size and weight for a lot of the hiking I need to do to get to some of these locations. Your objective review has given me great insights into the three cameras and given me confidence to jumpinto a X-H2.. Sensational work, appreciate the time and effort that goes into these reviews.

I have an XT5 and I also have a GFX camera as well and they make a great tandem for events even though they have a slightly different look to them because of the film simulations and the way they render I can shoot both cameras on a shoot and my clients are still happy. I specify which shots are shot with the GFX. It might be the more candid shots during a wedding and also the ceremony but then I will use the XT5 for a lot of the walkabout shots. It's a great combination. Thanks for your video.

KZbin search absolutely sucks. Finally stumbled on your video. I was inches away from dumping my XH2 for a GFX 50S2 thinking images needed that upgrade to achieve better performance. Understand the GFX can do it. But is it financially worthwhile? I would have done it for the 100s2. Then I’d have dump all my lenses and my XH2S as well. Looking 👀 into your channel I see some very interesting episodes. I’ll need to catch up and subscribe. For me its all about photography more than video. Keep plugging away great stuff. For now I’ll sit on my XH2 and XH2S. Your comment about cropped sensor vs full frame is true. I left SONY A7R4 and A7S3 because of color and menus. All the best!

Output is incredible as you state. I have been carrying around a XT4 as backup and to shoot long lenses (not available in GFX). Now the H2 is the obvious choice. The image quality is outstanding. I did get the H2S for its speed for street and wildlife. I am also wondering when the new processor (H2/H2S) will make it into the next generation GFX. That could make it perhaps faster and thus more versatile. I don’t know that a stacked sensor is the way to go in the GFX as I think the price will became unsustainable. Best.

Thanks for this awesome comparison video Miles! I'm tossing up upgrading to 2 XT5's vs 2 XH2S's for my wedding photography kit, but am not sure which one to go with yet. How do you feel about the different button and dial layouts in the XH2S/H2? A lot of people are not a big fan of the lack of ability to map the ISO function to either of the dials. Did you find that that was legit issue for you on the day in the sense that it made you miss shots because of having to fumble with the ISO button?
@scotthullinger4684 Жыл бұрын
It's not all about just the megapixels. It's more about the format size. All other things being equal ... bigger is always better. It's the same for film cameras: A larger format size which uses larger format film is always going to supply superior results to 35 mm or smaller film formats. If you have otherwise identical images, one made with 35 mm and one made with medium format (or a larger format, as the case may be), the larger format will always supply superior technical results. The artistry itself is an entirely different subject.

Thank you, Miles! Been looking for a video like this. I currently shoot with a GFX 50s (not mark 2) and obviously, it's been a fantastic camera. I played around with the XH2 in store last week and really enjoyed it. I shoot mostly landscapes but have started doing more day in the life shooting. Also, we are having our first kid so I assume I'll be taking a lot more documentary style photos. As you know, the original 50s is a real THICC BOI and it would be nice to have something a bit smaller. Since the gap between the 50s and XH2 sensor is smaller than the gap between the 100s, do you see any reason why I should't sell my GFX 50s to move to the X-H2?
@mileswittboyer.photoco2 жыл бұрын
Hey man! There's definitely still going to be a shift in the quality of the image coming from the medium format sensor to the APSC and personally, I can't imagine not shooting the GFX line. It's still by far my favorite system, BUT I think the XH2 would be an incredible addition!

Why are you shooting static images with such high shutter speeds sacrificing your ISO???
@mileswittboyer.photoco2 жыл бұрын
The easy answer there is that as a wedding photographer the world is moving QUICKLY around us. I know the thresholds of these cameras pretty well and know the place at which the file will start to fall apart so as long as I'm living under that ceiling I would rather prioritize knowing that I have a sharp frame than risking motion blur with no grain. The Fujifilm noise floor is so aesthetically pleasing that having a little grain in an image doesn't bother me at all.

They don't listen a lot to their customers, when it comes to features or firmware updates. Removing the clickable dials, a still very complicated way to change ISO, overheating issues on a warm average summer day while only shooting stills, because it hates direct sunlight... For the XT4, they never offered a single relevant firmware update, burried it with release. I am out if they stay with this update policy, probably dominated by cost saving requirements. I have the XH2 and XH2s, sold my XT4 and XT3.
@mileswittboyer.photoco2 жыл бұрын
Ok - so I think it's fair to point out that a lot of what you're asking for is only relevant to two cameras that are brand new. I'd actually agree with you on the ISO thing, it's an interesting design element I didn't prefer at first (still not sure I do). This camera design was a fresh start from ergonomics up and trying to pack either a 40mp sensor, 5th gen processor, and all of the other hardware in there, OR the stacked sensor required a lot of engineering and testing. The overheating is an issue with literally every mirrorless system these days however Fujifilm has arguably the least problem with it and released the system with a fan system to help mitigate it when shooting in that 8k or 6k open gate format. Every videographer I've chatted with about it says it's a crossroads of technology trying to mitigate overheating and still push the quality and it's understandable. The reality is that everybody wants wild things from camera companies. "we want an 8k camera, a f1,0 AF lens that focuses as fast as an f4, it has to be smaller than an iphone with quality better than a RED, and needs to cost $700". That said, Fujifilm is widely recognized as a brand that keeps solving problems for their users releasing firmare updates for cameras generations behind current and keeping systems not only relevant for as long as possible but evolving along side modern tech. The ISO feature, I would assume, will be a firmware update to the front dial soon. I'd disagree on the XT4 updates - I've shot almost 150 weddings with the xt4 and it has done nothing but get better as it's aged in my bag. Glad to hear you're still with the brand, I can promise - the grass is not greener on any other lawn.

@mileswittboyer.photoco Жыл бұрын
I absolutely am. In fact - it's one of the more relevant comparisons because image quality isn't the only consideration for working professionals. I've shot professionally FOR fujifilm and WITH fujifilm for years now so I have my finger on this pulse but the simple truth is that through the 50R absolutely DOES blow the X series out of the water (even the new XH2) because of pixels and sensor size the AF speeds, frame per second, black out, file size, ergonomics, battery life, body size, accesories, lens line up, and video specs matter a lot as well. Simply put - for you - it is a better camera. I shoot about 95% of my professional work on a GFX100S and for me it is also a better camera, but the point of a comparison is to show how cameras differ for different people. If a sports photographer bought a GFX50R because of the image quality they'd be sorely disappointed and yet at up to 40FPS the XH2S might be the perfect camera for them.
