I did it again. I bought a new camera. What's old is new -- and hey, this is pretty cool. The Fujifilm XT1 is a rad camera that deserves to be looked at again and again.
If anyone wants to know which film simulations I used -- you can ask in the comments. I don't exactly remember what I input and I just switched between custom 1 and 2 throughout the hour or so I was out taking pictures.
The Fujifilm X-T1-what a charmer. Released back in 2014, this little retro-looking mirrorless camera is very well built and feels great in the hand. With its classic design, it looks like the kind of camera your grandpa used, except it’s packed with modern tech that rivals some of their more recent releases. It has a modest 16mp sensor but don't let that fool you. The original X-Trans sensor packs a mean punch.
But let’s not pretend it’s perfect. Its autofocus is a bit, shall we say, contemplative. That said, its colours? Chef’s kiss. This sensor, in my opinion, doesn't do as much for the nostalgic film look as it's later models do (which most people disagree with) but it still has lovely photos straight out of camera. Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome -- to name a few -- the film simulations are pretty nice.
So, is the X-T1 still worth it in 2025? Honestly, it depends. If you want a camera that’ll make strangers in coffee shops ask, “Whoa, is that film?”-this is your ride. If you’re into megapixel wars, maybe swipe right on something else. But if you’re down for that Fujifilm magic with a touch of nostalgia, the X-T1’s got your back.
