The reason for infinity focus being volatile and variable is because of expansion and shrinking in varying temperatures. I have film camera lenses that do the same, but if it’s too extreme it might the the flange distance of the mount adapter not being right.

Nice video. Question: although the focus distance scale isn't accurate at infinity, is it accurate at closer distances of between, say 1-3 meters? I'm considering adapting the 21mm as a walk around lens because the Fuji lenses don't have a hard stop + tab which don't make them very much fun for zone focused imo. To me, the close distances matter much more than infinity.

Beautiful lens, but i noticed that I did not use it much on my then Fuji X-E2 due to the long 75mm eff. vlengh on a crop sensor. So I sold it. I think for a day-to-day use this particular lens (with its vlenght) shines more on a ff sensor / more practcal. Still miss it sometimes, it was a joy to operate it. There I was really impressed with the built and the quality of voigtläner / cosina lenses. Thx for your review.

Benefit of Fujifilm adapter is that one is semi electronic and allow to dial in not only focal length , shutting manual by pressing the button but also lens corrections which can be set manually in the menu.All lenses focus at infinity and think that your adapter is nok or need some shims to compensate infinity offset.

Adapted Voigtlander lenses have the same problem on my Canon RP with the infinity focus hard stop. I have the 28, 40 and 75mm lenses. I find it not to be a problem as focus peaking works fine. They were priced right and made a nice light package with my RP. I am happy with image quality and manual focus for my style and situations is probably a better way to go. The fast f stops of these lenses was a big step forward compared to my Canon kit lenses and fast Canon glass was simply not in the budget.

How about the old “hyperfocal” technique? Choose a middle numbered aperture (say f/5.6), turn the focussing ring so “infinity” is under f/5,6 (not past) now every image from infinitely and back will be in focus. A touch tedious, I know but hey, who’s in hurry.

Doesn’t the 21mm rear element protrude too far into the camera to be used on an APS-C camera?

That’s definitely the stem of the issue on the Leica, where they have such a small distance between lens and sensor, I think it might be Sony that have a similar set up where that distance is small. If it was the adapter, it would be the same focus miss across the range. It seems like Voightlander poorly calibrates their lenses. However, Fujifilm too unfortunately. The X70 shoots past infinity too, to the point that the range read out is completely off at most distances.

I adapt a lot of my lenses to my Fuji cameras. Mostly just for fun and for comparative purposes. However some lenses make perfect sense to adapt especially MF macro lenses. Your vintage 50 or 55mm macro which is not very good as a macro on film or FF becomes much more useful in that role on Fuji's crop sensor. I also use MF telephoto lenses as they are easier to use on the format than they are on SLRs. Generally SLR lenses of 35mm or wider are a waste of time as the IQ is just not there. My range finder lenses though are very good, with the only downside to me being the relatively poor close focusing of them. It is nice though to have lenses which serve a dual purpose. For example my 35mm Color Skopar f2.5 is a small light moderate wide angle on film and a small light standard on APSC, producing high quality results on both. With this in mind I have just ordered Voigtlander's new 28mm Ultron F2 Vintage Line. Partly for the fact that it will serve two roles, but also because there is no small light fast lens available for Fuji in this focal range. I love 27-30mm lenses on APSC, much like I love 40-45mm onFF or film. The 27mm pancake is very nice and small, but slow and Kamlan's 28mm f1.4 is very large and heavy (suffers from flare too, so a hood is compulsory which only adds to the bulk). Not being a range finder shooter that often, I don't have the same issue over focusing at infinity as yourself as I have no habit to overcome. I do generally always focus at wide open then stop down, especially when light levels are low. This greatly aids focus accuracy.
@5000Helme Жыл бұрын
Well use Ttartisan. 17mm 1.4 X Mount. Hard stop infinity. A few others can be adjusted by loosening 2 screws. You are adapting Leica mount lenses which won't be perfect in many ways.
@peterhuang50112 жыл бұрын
It is very common to pull back a little bit when trying to focus infinite. Different lens would have different "a little bit"... I have 28mm f2 ultron II, 35mm APO and 50mm f1.5 Nokton, for 35 & 50, that's really "a little bit", for 28, a little bit more...
@calebe163 жыл бұрын
Couldn't this difference in the focus be due to the adaptor having actually the wrong distance? It seems like a plausible explanation for me. It might have the wrong length or just had a not so good quality control.

Great video. Sorry for the late response but I'm just coming across this one. I am an avid Fujifilm X-Pro3 shooter and I sold ALL of my Fujinon autofocus lenses and replaced them with adapted Voigtlander VM lenses as well as a few Chinacrons from 7Artisans (35mm f1.2 MkII), TTArtisan (50mm f1.2), and ZonLai (22mm f1.8). The Voigtlander lenses I own are the Color Skopar 21mm f4 and the 35mm f2.5. The same 21mm you have. What I've found as it relates to the 21mm f4 is that that lens was really made for crop sensor cameras. There's another 21mm from Voigtlander, the f3.5 and it doesn't have the same issues the f4 version has. I found this out because I shoot with the APS-C Leica CL and all of my Voigtlander lenses are adapted to L mount and work perfectly on this camera. However, on the LUMIX S5, it shows up as an APS-C lens and won't take advantage of the full-frame goodness of the S5. So I'm about to sell the f4 version and buy the f3.5 version. I've tested it and it works perfectly on both APS-C and full-frame without a problem. Also, without focus peaking it would be difficult for those of us with old eyes to get critical focus with manual focus lenses on any Fujifilm camera. For me, it's a big plus and it's rare that I ever lose focus even when shooting movement on the streets.
