I should check the lyrics, anyway if he's actually using Italian he's singing "la sera", which means "the evening" (probably more in "the vesper" sense, considering the tone of the song). Also, please notice that he pronounces it quite strongly, like if there were two "s", but in Italian we actually say "sera" with a much lighter stress on the "s" of "sera". :)
