Buckskin takes the viewer back to the year 1820, where a Texan fur trapper embarks on a perilous journey into the mysterious Buckskin woods in search of a missing young boy. That actually was some really good drama. The first twenty minutes are a bit awkward as characters make themselves known. But, the meat of the story is quite good. The young boy, Levi, did alright for what must be his first role. Too bad about our protagonist. No happy ending here.

IMO this could have been a good movie if not for a really bad decision by the writers or producers to give it a dark dismal ending. Totally unnecessary IMO because they could have ended it differently and made it a good movie rather than what could have been good. The dark stuff should be used to build plot, not to be the plot. Movies shouldn't feel like watching the news.
