This new LdR record really reminds me of Sufjan Stevens' Carrie and Lowell, with songs about family, death, grief, loneliness, faith, and hope. Both are hauntingly beautiful.🤍

The best way I can describe how this album flows, are like two large waves on both ends, and a flat calm in the middle as a palette cleanser, which I think is pretty smart. And the fact that she used the same lyrics “Palm Trees in Black and White” from this album, to a song when she was Lizzy Grant is so cute to reference for her long time fans 💛

This is an album of phases. I can hear her growth, her experimentation and collaboration with other gifted artists only deepens her skill. Her vocals are ethereal, gorgeous, damaged when it calls for it, and above all…emotive. Even when the message of the song hasn’t clicked yet, you can derive so much information just from her tone. The nuance in the production is insane. The song structures are brilliant. This album was a journey. Listen in the dark with headphones and let it sink into you. Beautiful. How can anyone say they want to go back to BTD era when there’s so much to look forward to??
