As a Greek, this song was called Dionysus in reference to the Greek God Dionysus. There are a lot of mentions within the lyrics for parties and wine drinking and Dionysus or Dionysos (pronounced The-oh-nee-sauce) was the God of grape-harvest, wine making and wine but also fertility and fruit, festivity, religious ecstacy but also ritual madness in ancient Greek religion and myth. When they mention thyrsus in their lyrics, thyrsus is actually one of many symbols of God Dionysus which actually was a wand or weapon sometimes wound with ivy and dripping in honey (which is why Namjoon often appears in performances holding something that looks like a beneficent wand or weapon - his thyrsus. He was quite a party animal. He would often hold symposiums where they would drink wine nonstop. The Romans would call him Liber which would mean free, thinking of him as freedom! Fun fact: Dionysus was believed to have Zeus and Persephone as parents!

Second comment here... I really love how you always try to find the meaning behind the lyrics, it's one of the things I appreciate the most about you. I think there are many theories out there about this song, I have a lot of thoughts about it myself and that's the beauty of it, we can all have our own interpretation. We all know that in Greek mythology Dionysus' feasts were quite unorthodox and he was considered some sort of 'liberator,' because his wine, music, and dance freed his followers from self-consciousness and the restraints of society (kind of quoted this last part). I believe in this song wine represents art (RM's verse is pretty clear), which is addictive (Suga's verse), and makes them 'drunk' aka euphoric and also (maybe) more straightforward and honest. Making true art is what liberates them from the constraints of the industry/society ('I pursue something completely different'), that's why they are born twice, once as idols (constrained), then as artists (free). Basically, art allows them to be who they really are and to reach new peaks both as individuals and artists and achieve some sort of fulfillment or ecstasy just as in the legend of Dionysus. There are some other things that cross my mind right now, but I don't want to turn this into an essay :))

If you're wandering, the lyrics "we were born twice" come from the fact that Dyonisus is a Latin god that was born two times (go check the whole story it's quite interesting), and "Dyonisus" means "born two times" in Latin :)

The reason why it is called Dionysus is because it’s after the Greek God of Wine, Excess, ritual madness, theatre etc. RM is basically saying to get drunk on their music (like wine Dionysus is normally seen as a drunk God who party’s a lot). It’s also why the chorus talks about drinking from the cup. They were always told they were an idol group even though originally they weren’t going to be an Idol group. They still don’t really fit into that category fully. They’ve always followed an artistic route instead and played with different music genres showing that they are versatile. They showed it’s linked to the Greek God in their MMA (Melon Awards) 2019.

Also!!! During 15:27 of the video, the members get on the ground with one knee and dance. This choreography used to be done that they would all fall to the ground and do like a pushup thing but during a performance, JK was seen hitting his jawline when falling down and Tae had admitted that he was also scared whenever this part would come up to fall in case he or the other members would get hurt and so they changed this to the whole getting down in one knee which was safer!
