Thanks for posting this. My local model shoo has this kit and I've been thinking about getting it. After watching the video, I think Ill pass on it for now and see if there's a better offering of an F-15 in 1/48. Great job in your build!

Thank you so much! I did enjoy it, despite how long it took lol. I'm not fully one for jets comparatively per se, but I'm warming up to them as model kits
@gamerleveldad13973 ай бұрын
I built this kit a bit over a year ago. I ended up upgrading the exhaust cans because the turkey feathers were removed somewhere in the early 80's. I also had the same seam / gap you had under the nose. I thought I had an issue with the nose cone seam too but looks like you didn't. You did great with the seams and with the camo pattern. You are braver than I am to paint the missiles white by brush, that also looks great. The kit shows it's age for sure unfortunately. I think you did a great job with the preshade into the weathering as well. I love the choice in decals.
@fenrismodels3 ай бұрын
Oh, interesting! I hadn't heard of any nose cone issues, but I can see it being a problem if you build out the radar. I think it took a little bit to get it to fit nicely IIRC, but it didn't get recorded. I'll also admit to not really doing a lot with 3rd party stuff generally speaking, but I did almost get new exhaust cans for this one. I had heard that the ones in the kit aren't the best.
@gamerleveldad13973 ай бұрын
@@fenrismodels I did not build out the radar, and yeah it was a year ago so I could be remembering wrong. I do remember being disappointed getting a Tamiya kit that is typically shake and bake and having to do far more filling and such than I wanted. I did use magnets to attach all the stores so I could paint them later and maybe swap them out if I wanted. I wish they kept the Eagle with the turkey feathers as it is a cleaner look. So to that I really like the way you did yours. It's also a really neat 'call back' to the way the plane was originally designed. Of course, as long as you are happy with it that is the most important thing. I don't always do 3rd party add ons. I do like mixing in some scratch building to put my own mark on a kit. I happened to find the resin exhaust at a model show so it was too easy to not grab it up lol. I like your style, I tend to do more weathering on my kits, so I'll need to check out more of yours to see if I can not "over weather' hehe
@fenrismodels3 ай бұрын
@@gamerleveldad1397 I'm glad you like it. And it's worth saying that weathering is a highly personal touch. While I don't necessarily weather my own kits, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the time, love, care, and attention to detail that goes into the process. It's just not my "art style", if that makes any sense 😅 Because to me, at the end of the day, modeling is an art form just like any other. No style invalidates any other style in this hobby no more than it does in any other art form.

Great, I own this exact model, it has been collecting dust for a while. Now I have to compare my work with the group builds an the rest. Anyhow, nice work. Subbed

Thank you for the kind words and the sub! Yeah, I deff enjoyed this kit. It *is* an older kit and it does show, but it's nothing that isn't easily fixed as I highlighted in the video. Very fun build overall!

Lovely build! I really like that older two-tone grey scheme they used to wear, and was well pleased to see the LN tail markings.....I've worked at RAF Lakenheath since 1992, and will have seen the original 'C' variant of this model flying around almost on a daily basis....until they moved them out and stayed with the 'E' variants, and now with the added F-35A squadrons... 😃 I really must get one of these Tamiya F-15's and give it that similar look... 😊
@fenrismodels3 ай бұрын
Haha deff, I'd love to see what you do with it! That's really cool though, I wish I had a more personal connection to some of the builds I've done. The basic Tamiya kit I don't think has any LN schemes, but the 3rd party set I got had 15 schemes in it, and 4 of them were LN 😅
@ENLSN773 ай бұрын
L&S, Fenris. I bought this kit over 2 years ago, one of the first when i came back to the hobby. I thought: 'it's Tamiya, it'll be good'. ..i soon gave up on it and I've only, very recently, brought it down from the attic. I had no idea this kit's as old as me. Yeah, the two halves are super warped so last month i spent alot of time sanding the front kink with 800 and the two kinks at the rear i just had to fill with sprue goo. The front intakes are also warped and the gear doors are not flush (also closed like yours). The rest: wings, rudders and tail plane dry fit together like a satisfying jigsaw. So, I'm about half way after 2 years 😂 When i saw the decepticon decals i thought, yes! But you didn't go full Transformers' Starscream: white, red and blue?? So, now you've planted a seed in my head for my colour/theme because thats where i first saw an F15.. the Transformers cartoons in the eighties ;) Thanks, Ian
@fenrismodels3 ай бұрын
Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! Believe it or not, there's actually an F-15 with the Decepticon logo named Starscream in use by the military! I *am* considering painting up another F-15 as the G1 Starscream at some point though... I mean, how could I not, right???

Cool build! Yeah I like to paint the missiles before attaching them. Even an old Tamiya kit is much better than the Revell F-15C nightmare kit! Well done!

I wonder if they'll come out with the F15 Strike E like they did in 1/32 ? They've done every other U.S. fighter and their F16 was from the 1/32 kit was well done. With the F15 back in service the F15X should be next? I hope !

Awesome job on the build. I'm new to modeling and I love that sticky ball I've noticed you and a lot of modelers use to help paint smaller parts. Is it some sort of putty or something? If you could tell me what they're called I would appreciate it. I could definitely use one, cause so far I've been just been using my bare hands and/or tweezers, lol.
@fenrismodels3 ай бұрын
It's just regular ol' blue tack, also called poster tack. I roll it up and put it on an old pill bottle, but you can use it to fashion a handle out of a number of items.

Q: when painting the camo what psi u use and paint ratio ?
@fenrismodelsАй бұрын
I wouldn't go by other's PSI as gospel when spraying. There's a bunch of factors there, including what airbrush is being used, how long the air hose might be, humidity and moisture in the air, how clean the airbrush is, how close do they hold the airbrush to the model, what the needle size is, paint brand, paint thinning, etc. etc. For Vallejo Model Air, I find that thinning it down 7 drops of paint to 1 drop of their Airbrush Thinner (71.161) works perfectly. Model Color, it's 5 drops paint to 1 drop Airbrush Thinner due to Model Color being more viscous out of the bottle.
