I have used the Evernew 900ml pot for over 10 years now and it is the foundation of my lightweight kitchen. Recently added a Sea to Summit X Mug and the Mini GoBite Spork that both fit inside this pot. This rig is perfect for morning coffee, noodles at lunch, afternoon tea, and a freeze dried antre for dinner.

It also will fit two packages of ramen in it. And that is a must for me

Saw some S&B Curry Cubes at the market yesterday and will give them a try with dried lentils and rice.

I'm starting to get into backpacking again, and I'm going for a more "ultralight" approach and I think you just helped me figure out half my cook system. I'll likely use a different fuel source, but I really appreciate your reviews, and a lot of what you were looking for in a cook set is really what I'm looking for. For some odd reason, it seems really hard to find a decent pot that has a pour spout. I feel like this should be a standard for hiking/camping equipment, but it's not. That being said, I appreciate your video. Thanks for the help!

I spent an insane amount of time looking for the perfect pot. Glad it paid off.

Nice video. Great recommendations. I have a 35 year old gold/green anodized titanium Evernew pot set. Markings show 1 liter and 1.5, each with maybe 0.3 headroom. Lately I carry an Evernew 900 ml cup/pot that realistically holds 750 usable. Still use the whisper lite, but have bought a Norwegian canister stove and an Evernew titanium spirit stove.

Thanks for checking the video out! I would love to see you bust out that super old pot at camp one night. Love that old well used gear.

Hi. any ideas on using a pot cozy to reduce simmer times and thus gas usage? how easy was it to find canisters on the TA? Thanks!! really enjoy your videos, keep them coming!

Hey!, I started bringing lentils up to a boil and letting them sit for 20 minutes covered and that did the trick. Sometimes when I was running low on fuel I would wrap my pot up in my fleece to insulate it. Never carried a cozy though. I saw plenty of them along the way. Fuel was never an issue generally would come across some every 3 to 5 days.

@@MoveWithMurph thanks for replying! 3-5 days is not so bad at all, i expected it to be worse. Planning a south island TA in the autumn, also a lover of small bags. for food resupply, is 3-5 days about max? what would be a typical list of food that you would be carrying for those days. did you use resupply boxes at all?

the butter lol! i just got an evernew pot shaped like your toaks one there, i'm curious do you know what the white bag it came in is made of ? also most importantly, do you find your sea to summit mug affects the taste of your coffee?

I think it changes the taste for sure :(

I've found the S&B Curry powders in my local Wegmans grocery stores, but I don't see the cubes. Have you tried the powders? Do you think that would work as well?
@MoveWithMurph
@MoveWithMurph 2 жыл бұрын
Should work just the same, I would experiment a bit with how much per serving before you kit yourself out on a food carry. I use one cube for 200ml of dry couscous. If that helps at all.

Can you strain water from the Evernew if you're cooking rice? Or do you use the 'absorption method' with rice? Also, do you use a windshield with the MSR?
@MoveWithMurph
@MoveWithMurph 4 ай бұрын
Yeah the lid works well as a strainer. You can boil it just fine, the 10-5-5 method works well, but a lot of times I end up using those uncle ben dehydrated rice bags so I can save on fuel. I typically don't use a windshield. But I carry a sit pad and will use that or large rocks.

Did you consider the non-stick version of the pot? I can't decide which I should buy. 😊
@MoveWithMurph
@MoveWithMurph Жыл бұрын
Since I often use metal eating utensils / sometimes use an abrasive material like sand to clean my pot, I don't think the non stick would last very long.

Totally get the complaint re stove legs/pot supports. That's why I went for a Soto Windmaster instead of the pocket rocket. The clip on legs are solid and won't wobble. Of course because it's totally detachable, you could also lose it.
@MoveWithMurph
@MoveWithMurph Жыл бұрын
that would suck! I think the next stove I'm going to try out is the BRS 3000T, I feel like trying a comparison between that and the pocket rocket would be cool to try.
@praktika1082
@praktika1082 Жыл бұрын
@@MoveWithMurph I'm not sure that'd be a fair comparison. One is reliable, capable of different modes of cooking, heavier and three times the price of the other one, which might be very lightweight but is also very basic, and they've been reports of manufacturing inconsistencies that lead to some duds being sold amongst the fine units. I don't thru hike, at least not for the sorts of durations that "thruhikers" go for. My Soto Windmaster is fine for my overnight or weekend or five-day or two-week trips. If I were a thruhiker, the relative weight savings of the BRS 3000T might make sense.
