The first one broke my heart. That's so many people's worst fear. Imagine going out of your comfort zone, inviting new people over to have a good time and get ghosted and lied to by all of them. "I'm on my way...." and then they never come? That's so fucked up. It's a lack of human decency. Eric is totally right: it's bullying. An incident like this can have lasting effects on confidence and self-esteem.

My birthday was just like that, but a little worse. My family threw a whole party for me and my little sister (since our birthday was 3 days apart) and her friends came. Mine never did. It was even worse because they were on snapchat driving around the neighborhood I live in. It really hurt because these have been my friends for 5+ years, so when I called them out they said "oh sorry we didn't know" or "mb". I just went to my room, played "Real Friends" by Camellia and cried for hours. While my family and sister friends were partying downstairs. I hope that never happens to any body. If those people were real friends they would 100% knew when you have a BDay and wounld never do such a thing. So as someone who had experienced the same, I would just tell them to live their life( im censuring myself lol, i would curse them like hell xD) and just find new one. Because you should be the most important person for yourself on this planet! So you should value yourself and not hang out with people who obviously don't value you. So head up and move on :)

I have a close guy friend that I befriended when we were 16 and the conversations on the phone (long distance friendship) kept getting flirtier which made me develop a crush for him and I kept the lid on it for ages and decided to take it to the grave... until one new years eve I tried to drink the feelings away as most people do at least once in their life and of course I called and confessed. He turned me down, we decided to keep on as normal and many years later he confessed to me that the greatest regret of his life was that he didn't say yes because he felt the same. We are 33 now, I'm married and the awkwardness will forever be between us but we somehow kept a friendship anyway and made it still survive the kiln. My tip is - you are only young once. You regret more what you didn't do over what you did do. And who knows, if you feel chemistry it's a possibility he feels it too. On top of that I really wanted to give Eric a comforting hug at the first question, it really looked like he needed a hug.

That 1st one is so sad ... 😔 I’m having flash backs to my 17th birthday. I have always hated having parties because I felt like no one would show up so I would always decline my mom on the offer to have a birthday party but for my 17th I decided to make a small gathering for just family my “friends” and it was a mistake. None of my friends showed up at my birthday 😔 it’s been 10 years now and I only celebrate it with my family because that shit was traumatizing

At 16 i broke up the contact, After i realised this isnt Friendswood, but Yeah something like this sticks with you. Until now (21) i still dont like to celebrate my Birthday and i also do Not celebrate, even tough i found True Friends. I Hope sometime, that we can Build this trust again.

I don't agree that love ruins friendships. It can make things awkward for a while, but it can also get better ans eventually strengthen your friendship after the awkwardness is gone. My ex and I broke up 14 years ago, and we were both hurt by it, but he was already pretty much part of the family, so we kept contact and slowly rebuild the friendship we started with. He did marry into the family, though. Ended up dating my sister and he's now my brother-in-law. To this day, I still consider him a good friend, and there's no longer any awkwardness between us. We even went out for dinner on Valentine's day, last year, because he had helped me with my kids when I couldn't drive (severe back problems) I know this makes it sound like it was somehow a romantic dinner, but it felt nothing like that. It felt like the old times, when we would hang out with the guys and eat at the local fast food joint. Another friend was so scared of losing me, they started distancing themself from me, because they'd gotten a crush on me. They didn't tell me until much later, when they'd already grown over it. And it did feel awkward for a while, but we're still very close friends now. They're one of my best friends. I don't know if I would've been able to accept them if they'd told me, but I woyldn't ever end a friendship over love.

Agree with 100% I never agreed with that "oh well it's gonna ruin the friendship" statement. Because I feel like if both parties are mature enough to talk it out, like you said stay in contact and just be friends and that's all it can work. Yes there will be awkwardness in the beginning that's natural but with time and effort it will eventually go back to normal!!
