Full Event - PVAMU vs. Jackson State Battle of the Bands (2015)

watch in 1080HD! Use headphones for surround sound. Marching Storm vs. Sonic Boom of the South Battle of the Bands in Prairie View, Texas! PSA: At first the bands were not facing the crowd in the first two clips so the sound was not going to the middle up top where I was so I walked down to the bottom, I left my mic in the middle of the floor and free handed with my camera. I did not post the full length of JSU's march due to copyright issues, also in one clip you will hear the sound go in and out because I decided to put the mic on top of my camera (twisted it around) to make it easier for me since people kept walking in front of it. Eventually both bands did angle a bit towards the crowd and I went back up. That sums up all the issues....

Trumpets: pv (they've come a long way since LDC),jsu trumpets was being covered up easily shit is embarrassing. Mellophones: jsu they've always been powerful, pv mellophones had their moments though Baritones: tie but pv had a smoother tone with this euphos( both powerful) Tubas: jsu niggas was humping all day 14k was still good though T-bones: i give a slight edge to tnt over sop Woodwinds: pv(you can actually hear them) jsu should use theirs for more than hype material Drum line: msd and wt always bringing it but overall msd is better Balance: pv Power: jsu Arrangements: some jsu songs were plain out a snooze fest, others not so much, pv has improved so they get the edge Overall: pv but both are awesome swac bands I'm not taking away from that P.S: I'm a famu fan so I have no bias

I know the other school have the ability to play like them but they don't have the professors to tech them like they have at JSU and SU. PV not bad but not close at all.

AS a kid I grew up listening to both bands. I admire passionately to this day both bands. What I appreciate about the Sonic Boom is their groove with a punch. Not to mention, JSETTES they are deadly. What I live about the STORM is their ability to take you where you don't expect to go while musically staying in the character of their instrument. There is no radio with them. The Black Foxes gave me so much life on their feature not to mention TWIRLING THUNDER. killed it. I wish more people world have came to witness such an amazing event take place. Both bands say right across from each other without a single altercation. This whole event speaks volumes that small minds will always miss. Two bands, incomparable styles, amazing Dancers, and two crazy Drumlines... All four a great cause.

Jsu has great sound and power, but clarity is a bit shaky at times. Good technique, but there are times when I hear sound but don't necessarily hear any clear notes. PV sounds great and has nice power, though there's no way they could match the Power JSU put out. every part was clear crisp and deep, but they did not have solid answers for some of the songs JSU put out. Overall, I love the musicianship displayed by both programs. They both sounded full and mature and played high level music with good technique.

One thing about our favorite bands... Nobody can tell us that another band is better than our favorite band. We all are biased toward or against particular bands. Don't mess around and disagree and say that their favorite band took an L. Then all your credibility and knowledge is questioned....lol Nothing is wrong with that. With that said, I am dying of laughter at these people saying that JSU took the W. The Storm was clearly the better band that night. JSU was loud. For me, the highlight of the entire battle was JSU playing "Tiger of San Pedro" and PV responding with "All blues and Spain".

Stop booing. That's immature and shows no class. Respect these bands for their hard work. Now, I was more entertained by The Storm. JSU was a bit boring. The faces on The Boom players said a lot. They didn't look like winners. I like moments by both bands, but far more of what PV did. This is suppose to be a fun time ( college). PV always looks be be living it up. More bands need to do that. Audiences want to be entertained by bands. PV and NCAT do it best. People want to dance and groove to the music. They could care less who is scoring superior, excellent, satisfactory, etc. Stop being so serious; and stop thinking that LOUD is it; it is not (JSU, SU, ...) I watch all college bands' videos; and they ALL have something I like about them. BUT, a band that is having fun and giving me life, wins every time. But,... I do need them to be pleasing to my ear. Great job by both bands. The Storm gets the nod this time.

The trombone player, @01:00, marching on the last row in front of the trumpets, L-side need to be smacked upside his MF head! He clearly stand out, because he swaying his trombone in the wrong direction. One can see everybody else swaying in the same direction. He obviously marching on the wrong foot. +Jerome Brooks JSU lower brass was all the way in the back and no spaces in between from trumpets to mellos, unlike PV you can see almost each section in the spaces in between so the mic will capture more. Other than that JSU had a very weak baritone section so don't start your BS.
