Full Flight: Allegiant Air A319 San Juan to Pittsburgh (SJU-PIT)

Hey guys! Here's my return flight on Allegiant Air after a nice week's vacation in the Caribbean. I highly enjoyed roaming around San Juan and Puerto Rico as well, the country is beautiful. After now flying Allegiant Air twice between PIT and SJU, I really got a feel for what the airline is. Basically, they are exactly like Spirit and Frontier in that they are an ULCC, but on the other hand, they are solely a point to point airline. So, they only offer flights from one city to the other. Also, the experience of flying Allegiant feels like a charter, vacation airline that's only purpose is to get you from your home to your vacation. The FAs onboard this flight were very nice and of course the price was fantastic compared to other airlines' flights that day (next cheapest flight was $400 more). The checked luggage is obviously extra, seats are thin, no WiFi, hardly any legroom, and no free snacks...but I kinda expect that now with these types of airlines. It sucks, but if you prepare yourself, you'll be fine. I think if Allegiant is the best option for you to travel, then by all means fly Allegiant. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hey! I am from Puerto Rico and I have traveled several times from that airport and it is not normal that you had to walk from the other side of the airport. I think is because it is a pretty new airline in sju. Allegiant check In was on the other side of the airport along with Jet Blue and you walked on longest way to go board the plane. They should put it closer to the gate like the other airlines. Great video!

It’s not normal for an airline parked at Terminal C to have their check in counters at Terminal A. It may have to do with the remodeling but the airport itself isn’t that big and while you can walk it through, most passengers don’t have to walk too much.

I have noticed that after 7pm there aren’t a lot of flights out of San Juan in PR or Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Santiago in the DR.

Nice video! Just for clarification the flight was not 52 minutes late. The “departure time” is actually the time the plane leaves the gate, not the time the takeoff roll begins.

Great video! I'm glad you enjoyed my homeland; hopefully you can return there soon! As for the routing question: It looks quite a bit like a non-ETOPS certified aircraft, so those flights need to "coast" along not far from Florida and the Bahamas, instead of the straight line that requires oceanic crossing and certification. Don’t think you need ETOPS for Puerto Rico-Pittsburgh. What this aircraft lacked was EOW certification (extra rafts, survival equipment, etc.).

@@B.Launders that’s right. However, coming from the Northeast to SJU you need ETOPS *if* flying oceanic from New York Oceanic straight south to San Juan’s airspace. The alternative to this is flying along the Atlantic tracks to Miami’s airspace then southeast toward San Juan.

Ah I found out why Allegiant's A319 fleet such as this one look like A320s. They need the extra emergency exits due to the fact that it accommodates more pax than most A319s. EasyJet did the same thing with their A319s. Thanks for posting this trip report, great as always!
