Onumonu should start. Her off and on the ball work is just perfect. Amazing runs and keeping the defence onside and causing significant threat. Great and intelligent player

Unfortunately, because they didn't win, management has just fired half the coaching staff include lead manager Amy Rodriguez

Unfortunately for us Thorns fans, Smith was offside by a lean.

There was VAR review on Smith's goal? I have doubts about it.
@johnmcgimpsey18254 ай бұрын
There's a VAR evaluation of every goal. There's only a review if the VAR thinks there was an error. The AR was in a perfect position, and based on this clip and the distortion of the camera angle, I don't think they'd be able to recommend a review regardless of which way it was called.

Utah deserved a win but the summer goalscoring drought in NWSL is real

Portland is lucky they got away with a draw. Portland offense was mostly ineffectual. Onumonu missed a point blank shot at basically the broad side of a barn.

Hogan in goal was Portland's MVP. She's come a long way since the season opener.

Utah played well, should have won the match, but its finishing was poor.

After Utah's worst performance of the season last week, this was definitely their best. They didn't get too many clear cut chances despite all the attempts, but it was a great all round team performance. I can't remember seeing this Frankenstein monster of a referee before, but he definitely had a poor game. Fair result on the day, but Portland are still a bit of an enigma.

Smith was not offside 🤦🏾♂️
@johnmcgimpsey18254 ай бұрын
The AR was in perfect position, and there's no way with that camera angle in the highlight that VAR could say there was a clear error.
@cinematiccatastrophe83384 ай бұрын
I was at the game live, they showed another angle on the big screen that was more head on, and Smith indeed looked to have a half a foot length ahead of the defender at the critical point, it was close enough that i didn't envy the refs place of having to decide it, but she did look just offside.

Highlight Rating: All highlights in order(2): 2 At least 5 minutes long(2): 2 All goals, penalty fouls and red cards shown with at least one replay(2): 2 Show lineup(2) or kickoff(1): 1 Show half-time whistle or 2nd half kickoff(1): 1 Show final whistle(2): 2 VAR decisions clear(1): 0 Highlights capture the game narrative(2): 2 12 out of 14, not bad. No lineups and could have used a better replay on Smith's offside.

Better, much better defensive work from Utha: everyone hustled for the ball. -See it? Stablish the defense system first, next connect the midfield and defense (Sentnor is doing good there), and finally the opportunities for goal will present itself.
@cinematiccatastrophe83384 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, the Utah ownership group has just fired most of the coaching staff and managers, so there is likely to be a total blow up of all the progress made.

If Setnor were in a different team, she would be in contention for Rookie of the year.

how in the world was that soph smith goal offsides...
@johnmcgimpsey18254 ай бұрын
Looks to me like she's about a foot past the defender at the kick point, but it's hard to tell with the camera angle.

smith not immediately celebrating after her goal... weak defense with a lot gaps in positioning... no pressure.. late everywhere on the field... what the h*ll happend with/to the Thorns this season?

why does side referee call out offside, only after the goal was scored :D:D? while he is watching the whole situation unfold....I have never seen that....u raise the flag when u register violation of rules... so 2:04 he sees offside....but he doesnt move his flag until 2:15....like what the fck? is his brain this slow, or what does it mean...? does he know the rules? is he just unexperienced referee? we might never know......

Watched the full game. The ref was very strange. Made odd calls and seemed confused at times. He was also pretty "handsy" with the players, at one point he had his arm around a player's shoulders and his hand on her shoulder like he was a boyfriend, in the middle of the game. Felt bad for the player who had to stand there submissively . Very inappropriate, especially considering it was a Portland Thorns game. On top of the fact that Neville is the coach. Very bad look for the team and the league.
