Sounds like you shouldn't have waited the extra 15 minutes to call Shreveport Approach since you had to rush the decent. Gear down wait early. I get why, to increase drag but doesn't it imply improper planning? Granted, you were still safe though.

IFR is much easier in real time than under hood or sim. I’d go down at 1200 feet a minute and power back so that I would not exceed 150 kn. Very good considering you didn’t call for initial flaps prior to the FAF, and there was no use of checklists through the entire flight, nor was the approach ever briefed.

Glad I mentioned it! I try not to be extremely overt about it. Although the sales pays the bills, the channel is about taking people along on flights and letting them see what its like to go from place to place in the plane. That's why I have two Playlists, one for flights and one for products. Blue skies!
