​​@@bobbenbrown123for one reasonable fact is assuming if Dodgers win the series now, and Yankees-Guardians series go the distance, Dodgers will have too many off-days, which has the negative effects on the players. In the past couple of seasons, teams with seed no 1 and 2 were likely to lose their divisional series against teams that had to play a wild card series due to too many off days. Both Dodgers and Yankees also struggled early on against their opponents in their divisional series and went the distance.

@@bobbenbrown123 I didn't say they lost on purpose. I said they were willing to concede by not putting their high leverage arms out there to try and save a game that seemed to be out of reach. This is why Banda and Honeywell pitched, and they stretched Flaherty to three even though he was getting hosed. Now the rest of the pen is available for Sunday and maybe Monday instead of having to miss a game due to rest.

This is why Dodgers will be scary next season. They will have legit 6-7 starting pitchers, and in a series like this, opponents won't see same starting pitcher for two times. Mets must've studied Flaherty like crazy before this game and Flaherty believed he was invincible based on game one and got cocky and just gave up bunch of runs.

You might disagree with his strategy, but that is exactly what was done, and the rationale used by Roberts. I watched the game with my Uncle, a super baseball scout for the Cardinals, and he and I both came to this same conclusion, that baseball analysts on the broadcasts, later reiterated this exact thing.
