I never saw the sign of possible mental illness until recently. Here's my true story. my mom abandoned us (me, older bro and sis) in Asia 1987 after our father died of heart attack for better life in USA. When she came to USA she remarried a older man and petitioned all 3 of us to come to USA in 1993. But my step dad was old and a heavy smoker who died in 1999. My older brother got a girl pregnant and left the house to be with her (still his wife today). My older sister moved out too. So now it was just me and my mom. All our relatives and friends are in Asia so I had no one else but her and vice versa. She then used me as a husband replacement, there are lots of boundaries crossed, she doesn't respect my demands, BUT nothing sexual. I don't feel comfortable typing the details here but I also moved out at 25yo and it's been a traumatic roller coaster for me, I couldn't stay in one job or relationship because of what she did to me. I never had a gf and I'm 43yo now, I FINALLY made a full recovery this year but her planning to attack me again is still a problem I'm dealing with, her younger sister just messaged me few days ago and I know what they want. They want me to be "reunited" with her. She's sick and using me, her son, as a husband replacement and I'm the only person who knows that. But I love her, I will defend her, I just have to physically stay away from her and have %100 forgiven her. Like me, she too was abused and never had a boyfriend (fixed marriage is how she met my dad). She was called "negra" for being out in the sun all day tending the farm to take care of her younger siblings, she's the oldest. As a result she wasn't attractive because being "negra" is looked down upon in Asia where I'm from. I end up putting up with all that. From 13yo when I was reunited with her all the way to 25yo I was not "kidnapped" or forced to stay with her, like Rudy here it's codependency like a domestic violence victim who keeps going back to their husband who beats them. Because I didn't have anyone else so I stayed.

He will need much more than that. His mental stability is severely compromised at this point. He will need serious psychiatric healthcare to overcome the trauma and help with any triggers. His triggers could make him a threat to himself and/or others around him. These are the types of people that can become horrible problems in our society, at no fault of their own. I wish him the very best, however he MUST seek help with what he has been through.

he's well spoken bc he doesn't have actual trauma. there is something off about this. a person who was brainwashed and controlled by their parents locked away in a house for so long DOES NOT speak this well and trauma free. he would be highly traumatized. this seems fake.

Telling him he'd be imprisoned... on another video, they say she would take him with her to work 6 pm to 6 am and he done the work for her, but there's stories he tells that he didn't leave... there's no consistency with the stories... but that would explain why he wants his money. Whoever she works for should be made aware of this. If it's true... I can not tell what the truth is..

It hurts my heart that he is being interviewed by this news station rather than a professional. As a women who was brainwashed by her mother I really understand him and hurt for him. I moved out at age 21 and I snuck out of my mothers home in the middle of the night because I was afraid of her. Not everyone would understand the mental issues that come with being brainwashed since birth. Give him his space and stop asking him to over explain just because YOU don't get it. Reminds me of people that I have talked to who had been on several different types of drugs and were just totally lost as to why they are so emotionally everywhere. As a mother, I wish I could hold him as a MOM! He is a man but his heart is still of a child’s heart. His mother is evil! She didn’t deserve that sweet boy. The way he speaks, you can tell he has so much potential to be a good man and he still does but he was robbed of so much and he’ll never be able to get it back. There is something very wrong in what his mother was doing and it was NOT for his benefit, but her own. He seems to frankly not understand what is crossing certain lines. U can be completely inappropriate without actually having sexual intercourse and one certainly gets the feeling she was definitely doing inappropriate things he couldn’t decide whether wrong or right, but rather just knew it made him feel violated and exploited.

Just lost my big brother. My only sibling on June 7th in a car wreck/fire. He was 41. The pain is so bad. I literally had little sister tattooed on my foot as soon as I was old enough to even get one. We weren’t just siblings, but best friends. Lost my stepdad to suicide at 16 due to the relationship between him & my mom. My mom is exactly like this except as going as far as missing. I'm 24 & still stuck in her trap. Unable to do anything, leave go stay a night with friends, even walk around the neighborhood just to get out of the house. I'm tied down by financial, mental, sometimes physical abuse. She truly is a narcissist and he was an extension of her. They absorb you and you are there to serve her. He needs cognitive behavioral therapy to break those negative emotions and thoughts. He is an empath and the weight of the world on his shoulders. Secondly, a life coach to guide him and speak life into him. Well, although he didn't want to say it clearly, but he still says it between the lines: she did some inappropriate sexual things to him, but now he says he wasn't sure if that was normal because he never had other relationships with other people besides his mom. I think his mom really messed up with his mind through isolation, brainwashing, and drugs. Why they didn't ask him about the drugs that supposedly she was giving him?

This man is a jewel. He has been through soooo much and his perspective on the world is to be admired. He has more wisdom and care for other beings that some people that are even twice his age can learn from. Heck, we ALL need to listen to his view on the world and how it should be. Like another commenter said, and I loved when they said it: "WE SEE YOU RUDY. WE HEAR YOU...AND ARE ROOTING FOR YOU." I also feel that the reporter did a really good job at asking the questions. She needs to be commended. She made sure to let him say WHATEVER IT WAS THAT HE WANTED TO SAY. She gave him the room to do that, so that coming directly from him, no information was misconstrued. She also showed empathy by always saying "Is there anything you want to say", and she did that more than once. She was very kind and didn't come across as "just wanting to get the story." Very fair, professional., and empathetic. Again...Rudy we see you and.....we hear you. Stay strong. Pray, and keep on the right path of being exactly who you ALREADY are. Oh my goodness, what a precious soul! I'm not even 7 minutes in and I can't watch all of this. The people asking him questions seem so harsh, cold, and lack any sympathy. Sending him love and prayers for healing and I hope he's able to recover fully. It may take a lifetime of therapy to figure out the trauma he endured and heal emotionally, mentally, and physically. Any victim of abuse and the people who know them will all ask the same question: "How?" Abusive relationships are extremely difficult to figure out. I was in one for 10 years and I had my masters degree and no children until one day you just leave and you don't come back. He’s confirmed a lot of what Quanell said. He was made to sleep in Janie’s bed, he was treated like her husband, and he left because his boundaries were constantly ignored. He’s also going on incoherent ramblings about colors and algorithms and chips so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some drug use happening. Now the question lies in whether he told Quanell about SA or whether Quanell misunderstood. I think it may be a mix of both. Quanell may have inferred a bit too much on what Rudy said to him and Rudy may not understand fully what happened to him. In the end Quanell is right that Rudy needs serious, SERIOUS help and Janie needs to be in prison.

When people hear " held captive" the mind automatically thinks of someone being held in a dark dungeon with no food or toilets and being treated like an animal. That's not what happened here.
