I like this one more than most. His idiocy is simply in not recognizing WHAT he's been fighting and doing, and the people never directly told him how special it all was until just now. And the rest is that he's WAY to kindhearted to see the actual terrible things the people around him are doing. Better, he's maxed out every basic skill, showing the old adage 1 kick 10,000 times versus 10,000 kicks once. He's incapable of going farther in any one skill set, but he's so strong with the first level that he can triumph in the face of adversity, and while he's still an idiot, everyone around him works with that stupidity to direct him somewhere. That and the Empire constantly putting up more and more weapons makes sense here. it's not 'we went all out at first, but oh wait, we also have THIS super weapon too' which some stories do. No, they led with the monsters, switched to mobile weapons, and then maxed out with the stationary cannon in the capital. And yet there's still how strong the people who supplied them with the power source could possibly be. Likely using them in a different way. Good lead in to more content, without having to really do much. Even makes sense that 'this dragon once devastated the world 10,000 years ago' is NOT the strongest being anymore, and they have weapons to fight it now. After all, they've had 10,000 years to get stronger.

I agree, the ones where the MC doesn't realize his power even despite knowingly defeating powerful foes just cheapens the OP MC trope. ik the trope is a little overused, but there are still ways to use it tactfully, like in this one.
