As a person that disliked LeBron because I was a massive Kobe fan, I've switched my views. LeBron deserves much respect for what he does on and off the court. There's honestly no room for hate anymore. This man is a true icon and a great role model.

For all the recognition Lebron gets, he deserves more. Everything this guy does off the court is going to help an insane number of people in the long run. This is the kind of thing the world needs more of. I just want to thank Lebron for providing this kind of support to kids and parents who may have never thought they had a chance of success. This is the kind of thing no MJ vs Lebron debate would ever take into account, and it really doesn't do justice to what this man has accomplished during his time in the public spotlight.

LeBron James is the true definition of the American dream. He does countless things for his community with the wealth he earned. He deserves high praise for what he is building and achieving because he doesn’t have to do any of this. It’s a pity that a lot of people would rather tear each other down than praise someone for doing something remarkable. Edit: he’s definitely one of many but not nearly enough people give back to the community.

LeBron is one of the only reasons I have faith in humanity. That a man can have so much wealth and power, and not be overly arrogant, not go around cheating on his wife, not back stab people, and really just be a good person, is remarkable. He’s a family man and always has been. And for someone with his wealth and power, it’s remarkable. He is truly a role model, and he deserves everything he has. One of the best humans on this planet.

I have to go on record of saying that I've had a love/hate/respect relating towards Lebron James on the basketball court. That said, that was only on the court. But, what he has done as an African American man off the court is to be heralded and saluted on another level. To be under the microscope with such high expectations since high school and surpassed all of them and conduct himself superbly cannot be overlooked. His financial and business acumen, entrepreneurship and altruism for his Cleveland community is to be commended. Salute to you and your foundation on giving back on such a high level to the community of Akron and doing so much for the city of Cleveland over the years Lebron James. SALUTE TO YOU AND YOUR BUILDING LEGACY MY BROTHER!!!

@m_bennett 5 жыл бұрын
No doubt about it, a statue will be erected of LeBron in Cleveland when they retire his jersey. It will be a huge honoring type ceremony because he's the greatest pride of NE Ohio & the greatest figure in Cleveland sports history. I also guarantee the statue will be him looking like Cleveland Jesus with his arms outstretched looking up. The same pose we always had on our huge banners in the city next to The Q. Man it's gonna be hard to see him play in a Lakers uniform for the city of L.A., wearing the same uniform as Kobe Bryant. For me it's the equivalent of Spiderman or Wolverine showing up in a Batman or Superman movie. Or the same surreal image of Michael Jordan becoming a Boston Celtic after the retirement of Larry Bird.
@alileevil

Do other people who have started schools get a statue as well?
@m_bennett
@m_bennett 5 жыл бұрын
Fikitupper .... Sometimes. There's many high schools & universities across the nation with statues of their founders or financers. But LeBron getting a statue is about much more than just a school when it comes to his impact on NE Ohio. LeBron James completely revitalized the Cavs organization, brought the city of Cleveland all 5 of it's EC titles, & it's 1st ever NBA title. This also broke what was called "The Cleveland Curse" by bringing the city it's 1st national title in any professional sports in over 50 years. And when the Browns won those titles, it was before the Superbowl even existed, before the 2 leagues merged, so technically it was Cleveland's 1st true national title. If you had seen the city of Cleveland before & after the existence of LeBron James, you would've seen a massive difference. The development from what it was 20yrs ago to now (the amount of businesses& the quality of dining, bars, entertainment, etc) has changed so dramatically and every bit of the economic up-turn & improvement of the city is directly correlated with the presence of LeBron James. Many of the businesses downtown, from dining to merchandise, will tell you that they have LeBron to thank for at least 80% of their profits or the fact that they were able to open & sustain their business in the first place. Dan Gilbert has done so much to build up Cleveland. He owns the Cavs & the casino here. So Dan wants to keep this city as attractive as possible so there's more than just The Rock&Roll HOF (which is amazing, especially when all the stars are in town), but Dan Gilbert wouldn't have been able to do all that he has without that lucky day where the Cavs won the pick that allowed us to select our hometown phenom, who was already a star in NE Ohio when he was just in high school. Then on top of all that, you add the fact that he opened a school & constantly does events that give back to the NE Ohio community, as well as other causes and children's organizations, such as the Boys& Girls clubs, across the nation. And that is why NE Ohio would build a statue in his honor for the person who used to be simply called "The kid from Akron".

And this is exactly why I never even engage in the goat debate. Basketball is a great sport. MJ was great at it. A legend. But as if with any job, it is what you do BEYOND your desk, your office, your little cubicle..that sets you apart. The things you do without being told, ASKED...things that add VALUE to others’ lives. I enjoy basketball, and it certainly gives me such joy and excitement during the season and what not..BUT, greatness and a true mark is what someone can do with their power, influence, MONEY, and time. Lebron is soooo selfless. On and off the court. He speaks up. He’s involved in social issues. And now he’s build a school. I mean, he may never win 6 or 10 rings or whatever..but in my book, he will ALWAYS be the GOAT of life (when compared to MJ). He’s a really damn good person! A husband, father..teammate..etc. and does all these things whilst carrying the burden of being a larger than life superstar. Burden as in, Media expectations, haters, social media etc etc. What has MJ done? How often does he speak up on social issues? I would like to know. Please educate me.. because if he is doing good things, too- I wanna applaud him too. For now though, Lebron is the perfect example of do more that you’re required! Get involved..give back, speak up and GIVE!! Bless! 🙏

That's the problem tho. People can't separate a player from on the court from off the court. Kevin Johnson was a mayor; does that make him a better player than Isaiah Thomas on the court? Besides, MJ has done great things in the community. They just doesn't reach the media but that's besides the point. Let Lebron have his moment, no need lift one brother up & tear another down. You don't see that in any other race really besides our race. That's a crab in the barrel mindset

Speaking as someone who lived around the Akron-Canton area him opening this school is huge for the community. Say whatever you want about him as a player, but I have never seen a player who has single-handedly helped a community more than Lebron. I think it's cool he's opening this school, and I'm hoping this will help the city.

nmj530 I've felt this way for sometime. I'm not a fan of his... I just don't like his game.. Though I think he is a great player. However as a man for a few years now I have held a great respect for him. When you look at his off court actions the things he has done are things an upstanding person would do. It didn't start with a school, but there's a school today. I remember that time he delivered a million dollars to a family house in person... Or how he was giving scholarships out.

I've always heard the criticism of MJ for supposedly not giving back but thats not true. You have people criticizing Lebron saying this is about press or making himself look good. Why can't people in just enjoy this interview and say something good without the negative? Take inspiration from good and go out and do a little good too.

@Element_y
@Element_y 5 жыл бұрын
Brick To be fair, the American dream is more about anyone, without any special advantages, can make it in this country. Dr. Been Carson would be more of a role model. He wasn't 6'8" 250lbs as a junior in high school with athletic ability. Instead he was born in a poor home in the hood surrounded by drugs and crime. He studied hard and pulled him and his family out of poverty by nothing more than hard work and sheer will. That's an example of the American Dream.

Dr Carson didn't have a god-given ability to be a neurosurgeon. His mama made him read all day long and study his ass off. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Yale. None of that was given to him. He worked his ass off. LeBron is extremely intelligent, great guy. I'm just saying, in my example, he wasn't given any advantage except a caring mother. LeBron woke up and didn't have to put in any work to be 6'8" 250 in high school. That's the difference.
@laughingbehelit

Chris Mark how many big athletic guys do you think there are in the hood? I'm sure we could find a bunch of wasted potentials who could have been pro athletes but didn't put in all the hard work or tried to live up to a high standard and instead chose a darker path.

Kobe was avging 27ppg in year 17. Then the Achilles injury happened and he became shit. LeBron could legit be a 25ppg scorer until year 18+ because of how durable he is.

Justin H Never seen CNN or MSNBC do anything for the community other than divide it with identity politics. I'm not conservative by any means, and hardly ever watch fox, but I know for a fact they promote charities all the time on their shows.

Tyler Moorman Fox News divides people too just in a conservative way. Every news channel has supported a charity at some point and time lol. Most of the leaders of these well-known charities receive outrageously large salaries while barely any of the money is given to the people they are actually supposed to help.

Justin H Divides people to in conservative way? What does that even mean? All I know is they don't play with identity politics like the rest of the media does. I frequently watch MSNBC and I never seen them promote christian charities or charities for veterans like Fox news does. If what you are saying is true and none of the money goes to a good cause (which isn't true) then nobody would donate. That means Lebron is one of those people. I think you might be confused, people with money start charities and fundraisers for a good cause, but they also get huge tax breaks for it.

Tyler Moorman Your claim is true but no one was talking about CNN and MSNBC though. He was only bringing it up because he was criticized by a Fox News person to shut up and dribble.

Obi Chukwura Good point, but lets be honest who wants to see professional athletes talk about politics? They all have the same views because they all live in cities like L.A. and New York where different opinions aren't shared that often. It's pretty much the equivalent of any other profession giving their political views while doing a job for you. Its just annoying.
