I dive Full face mask (OTS spectrum and IST Pegasus), with a scuba pro S550. I never use a mouth piece. I also dive the KIRBY MORGAN 17 HELMET. I love the spectrum. I have over 5000 logged dives since 1979. Full face masks are easy to clear. You just pull the tap under your chin and purge your reg.

Thanks for another great video guys! We haven't tried the Spectrum, but do love the Guardian. The ambient breathing valve ABV (5:20) is one of our favorite features on the Guardian and I think is a must-have.

That has been our feeling too! Thanks for your comments and kind words!

Liked the video, thanks. I have dived the OTS Mantis at work for 9 years. Comfy, uses no more air than a half mask, comms, ABV valve, more 'natural' than the Guardian, which I have also used at work due to the absence of snot block. I have prescription lenses glued in which work as well as in a half mask. Never seen a review of the Mantis.....

And with the Mantis I can breathe through my nose and it doesn't fog up. In fact it de-fogs itself in a couple of minutes. Lastly, you don't have to readjust the head harness every time you dive - just unclip the lower two straps.

I have 2 dives on each of these dive masks, the Spectrum and the Guardian. For reasons that I'm still unsure of, the Guardian was really uncomfortable on my nose. I did try the smaller nose block on the 2nd dive, and that helped some, but by the end of a 45 minute dive my nose still hurt. I want to give it another try with a different configuration (maybe a shorter wire mount?) because I really like the wide view. I did find the reg a little hard to breathe from, but there may be an adjustment for that as well, I don't know. I do like that you can keep the mask separate from the reg while gearing up and also that the mask doesn't fog up during a dive. And the ambient breathing valve was great to breathe from on the surface and save air while waiting for others to join me in the water. I found the Spectrum more comfortable on my face and easier to breathe from, but probably just because it used my own reg that I'm used to diving with. What I didn't like was the mask fogging up a lot, but it was used during training dives so there was a lot of flooding and doffing and donning. I also didn't like that the view was more like a normal mask as opposed to the Guardian. I did like that I could do the valsalva maneuver on descent due to the flexibility of the mask, but that same flexibility made it a bit awkward to clear the mask because the face tended to 'smush' in while trying to clear. It did clear easily enough though. I did not like that the mask has to stay connected to the reg while gearing up. I also think it would be better with an ambient breathing valve, but tucking the fingers under the chin worked easily enough. And, thanks to this video, I now know you can buy an add-on ambient breathing valve, but it does add an extra $100+ to the cost of the mask. Right now, I'm undecided on which mask to buy. I would definitely go with the Guardian if it were not for the nose discomfort I experienced. If that doesn't get resolved on my next try, I will go with the Spectrum.

John, thanks for that compressive answer! Lyell had a similar issue that you describe with the nose blocks on the guardian. He customized the blocks by trimming them such that they didn't feel like they were pressing into the area around the nose during the dive. The only time they come into contact is when he pushes the mask up to block his nostrils. We have also seen other divers customize the nasal blocks with small piece of neoprene bonded on the top layer which is much softer and can easily block the nostrils too! Hope this helps! Thanks for taking the time to leave comment and watching our videos!

I have the OTS sprectrum and i can confirm, you do not need to touch the full face mask drain tab to make the water exit the mask... You just need to look down and exhale your air. The water will get out of the mask alongside the air exhaled through the regulator.

Hey, great video! I only got one question to be answered! Can you talk with out a comms system while wearing the mask on surface!? Thanks!
@everythingscuba3 жыл бұрын
+Pol Puente yes you can but it’s hard for others to hear you even if you open your ABV.

The regulator is off because your reusable clip's tab for the reg mouthpiece is actually putting the slot off center when it goes through the plastic stiffener piece inside the mask.

Mark thanks for watching and thanks for pointing that out. We try to be as accurate as possible and that was definitely an error on our part! Appreciate the feedback!

That’s why don’t use it any more in our current videos. KZbin has been a learning curve for us but we hope we are improving. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
