Vakifbank's still a good team, we cannot deny that. I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to the end but this is also the worst lineup they've had in the last few years. They still have some amazing players but i feel their downfall didn't start when Haak was replaced by Egonu or when Egonu left the team after one season only, everything started when Michelle Bartsch-Hackley retired and nobody came to replace such an skilled player. Considering Vakifbank doesn't have the best liberto (I personally think Gizem and Simge are better liberos than Ayca), they rely on Outside Hitters to run the defense and when Gabi is in the front, nobody's leading the defense in the back. Frantti and Busa are not what the team needs and as talented as Thompson is, she's not at the level of Egonu, Haak, Boskovic and Vargas, which to me, are the best opposites in the world. Having said that, that's why i think Allianz Vero Volley won this match, they have not only the best liberto in the world, Castillo (and that's not up for debate) but also they have Sylla and Cazaute to defend. Every good team starts with good defense and currently Vakifbank doesn't have that.

Exactly. The same what happened to when Paola in Imoco everyone was blame her and saying that Haak is better than her the fact that Haak has Gabi and Bartch to help, while Egonu have Sylla and Plummer who are very terrible at attack and defend

I agreed with most of what you commented. However bartch was already an experienced player before she joined vakifbank + they had haak that time. Personally the OHs part was better compare last year. The only missing here is the opposite position. It's not thompson's fault. She is literally the only opposite option they had this season since all the top opposite had been signed. Vakifbank is the main problem here with bad decisions of changing opposites even though they are doing well or maybe it's the budget as well. I feel like they are saving alot of money this season and next season. I have a hint they will try to sign boskovic or vargas in the next 2 or 3 season.
