He won gold medal at 2016 Youth Olympic. He has won more gold medals at Asain Games, world cup, world championship, 2023 pro tour final. He has been there many times. He is trained by legend., is playing at China Super league along with Ma Long, FZD, LGY. not surprising at all for me. Non-Chinese players do not have that privilege. One may notice the number of successful attacks of WCQ by the middle of the table, that is supposed to be one of the weak points of the RPG version of penhold; this gets even worse for the frenchman as a result of the lefty dimension of the chinese. Xu Xin circumvented this by a mid-distance super spinny style of play with about 90% of forehands. In opposition to this, A. Lebrun's style of play has a lot to do with Wang Hao's one, i.e., the currently chinese coach, with a close to the table fast style balanced between the FH and the BH, and it is everything but surprising that they could analyse his game this easily...
@branlotin10 ай бұрын
Félix was really overwhelmed and was never really able to get in the game, which is a shame. He was probably never going to win it as WCQ has been the best player in the world for the last couple of weeks, but I feel if he had played up to his level (like his brother did) he could have made it a game. Alas, he was completely wiped out. I hope he learns how to keep better control of his emotions.
@Zuriki_10 ай бұрын
Felix is so young, he's on his way to become even better ;)
@bryanwells406310 ай бұрын
Yes, Felix's game depends on fast counters close to the table and his incredible touch play forcing passive open ups from the opponents. Wang Chuqin was prepared though, you could see he was ready for every fast serve, every long push that Felix gave him. I think Felix needs to change his tactics a bit against the Chinese compared to facing europeans. He needs to take two or three steps back and really develop his power away from the table, like how Lin Shidong and Alexis Lebrun are doing, and Hugo Calderano. He did it well against Ma Long in their last encounter, that was what convinced me that Felix really does have what it takes to beat the chinese. He just needs to train and prepare better for this, and study the lefty-righty matchup as well since I'm sure that tripped him up pretty badly as well. Wang Chuqin is a beast, its almost inhuman how good he is.
@branlotin10 ай бұрын
@ells4063 Interesting. On the righty-lefty thing, he actually did really well against the Silent Assassin in the semis so I'm not certain there is something to this, but I'd definitely agree with your assessment of his play away from the table. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but I'm under the impression that he loses at least 75% of long rallies away from the table, and not only against chinese players. He's only 17 though, and he's gonna get a bit taller and gain some power, just looking at how slim he looks compared to his brother. But for me, where he has to improve most is controlling his emotions, finding the right balance between focused an relaxed in high stakes games.

It's like Wang Chuqin wanted to prove to the world, especially to the Chinese coaching staff, that yesterday's loss was a fluke, that he is more than RELIABLE to bring back the goods! Felix is very talented, but as the commentator said, when you beat any member of the Chinese National Team, you and your game get dissected under a microscope a coaching council, and they share that knowledge with every Team China member so they know how to beat you! Felix obviously got their attention and did get studied in detail! The difference between the world and team China is not in the number of young talents they have, but in the wealth of coaching and training assets! There is no other country in the world that can come up with the countless number world and olympic Champions in training halls everyday like team China!

This is so so true. Félix loves playing table tennis. In a recent Tweet he wrote: "Play, have fun, progress and win 🤩 THIS IS ALSO TABLE TENNIS!". His fitness trainer said in an interview that he had to refrain him from playing table tennis. On the other hand, I remember a Chinese player telling me that she didn't like table tennis but her parents forced her to play and since she was good she became a professional table tennis player but she didn't really like playing table tennis, it was just a job.

the chinese players also have love. they have personalities and they do enjoy the game. it's hard for them to show it because all that's broadcasted on western media is their games, but i assure you that people are the same. Or rather, each one of them is different. Everyone has their own backstory and their own mindset about the game. I do appreciate how the young french prodigies are doing on the world stage at such an early age, but of course I'm going to be a fan to my own country's player. I think that they will pull off something insane in the future, presently like how WCQ is playing recently.

Obviously everyone, including the commentators and the audiences, have their own favourite athletes . And they may make comments based on their own judgements, which is not mutual. It is natural that humans get jealous and start belittling others even defaming by any means, when others are stronger and better. That's human nature, and may happen in any races. The fact is that all athletes have been working extremely hard to get to that point and deserve the highest respect. It also involves enormous amount of the back up support, regardless whether it is from the government backed or at a personal level. In China, the athletes are lucky enough to get the support from the government, which may not be happening in other countries. Also please bear in mind that the table tennis and the badminton are so popular in China, even kids can play it well. It is probably the sports with the lowest cost in comparison with the sports. In short, there's no point to attack the winner if your favourite is lost, or laugh at the loser. Just be respectful.
