It certainly had it growing pains, 13 aircraft losses which cost 51 lives - each one a tragedy & I can honestly say that I am so sorry they gave their lives for this aircraft to succeed! My heart goes out to their families, God bless you all!! I was listening to Carl Forsling a retired CH-46 & V-22 pilot on the Low Level Hell podcast released on the 28/10/22, an excellent description of actually flying the Osprey! Over the years it has grown to be an aircraft to be respected and it has utterly changed the nature of amphibious assaults, COD and rotary wing aviation! I highly recommend listening to Brian & his guests - I've never heard a bad show!

Took some serious concentration and many attempts to successfully complete a full take off and landing on the same carrier as in this video. My landing took around 10 minutes, was going high, then low then back up and then backwards n forwards, nacelle and throttle control seem to be key as you transition between forward flight and hovering. OMG! Chris, you are certifiably crazy. But you sure produce some of the best content on sim aviation. A good few years ago, I spent the 4th July at St Pete’s Coast Guard Station in Florida with some good friends. I was kinda the token Brit, but as a fly guy the banter was all good fun. During the afternoon I was given two drinks with the somewhat meaningful name of, “Call me a Cab”. Jeez, this things were like drinking nuclear waste. After these two brain scrambling refreshments one of their local hopper jockeys asked Mike, the guy whose guest I was, if I would like a trip in the Osprey the were testing for possible use by the USCG. I screamed “ Nnoooooo” at the top of my voice, imagination flicking thru the scenario of me projectile vomiting all over the acres of glass inside the thing. There is no amount of money that would ever get me inside one of those things. So today, while I was watching you happily fly this brute of a machine, and calmly saying, with a chuckle, “I should probably get some gear down”, I just laughed my head off. Well Done Again. Too many memories Chris, way too many.

7:08 Most of us know the downside to the MS model is the planes fly more like they are on a rail than they do in XPlane. On the take off they was 0 banking action. The line of the dash maintained exact angle with the boat all the way up. IRL that has got to be all but impossible. Air is just too fluid. I so wish these a/c were a bigger part of our lives by now. The MSFS world looks too good. Flying this in VR is as close I'll ever get to being in one. Great video !!

There was a side by side vid of a cessna take off and landing with practice stalls (xplane and msfs) and there was hardly any difference. None of these sims get it 100%, and I've seen Xplane videos of airliners landing with what seemed like 0 turbulence. You can pick apart both of them. It's just that MS brings a visual realism that's still unmatched for the most part.
@KarlH19802 жыл бұрын
@@darreno1450 I totally agree with you on the visual superiority of MSFS. Not so much with the flight dynamics. Having experience in both and in real world aviation, the fluidity of x-plane comes much closer to real world dynamics. I feel this simulator is not ready for this, or any VTOL aircraft for that matter. It is so terribly wrong physics wise, it throws it completely for me. And literally all they need to do, is increase drag, decrease lift, and apply some effect that makes that transition much more difficult than it appears here (on the hand), per say. also the transition is slower than this, and bounces wings a bit. In essence, this aircraft is not easy to fly, don't make it so. If (Aircraft of this nature) does this do this else do this. Yes I know it is not that simple in practice, but I also feel it sometimes can be that simple.... let people make a decision with their game. We trust you to implement the ideas, that's why we pay for it.
@miltechsimulations2 жыл бұрын
This aircraft is by no means easy to fly in the simulator. That being said, physics have been all custom modeled, and will be extensively improved as time progresses and MSFS starts supporting VTOL (helicopter) flight. New helicopter physics are set to be released with SU11, which will bring native support for fully vertical ops, and will help with improving the physics. We are working with Osprey pilots to get the aircraft handling as close to reality as possible, but that process will take time.

@@cgaviator the computers do, It’s either a dream or a nightmare. Again though, this was not meant to be an aggressive assault on the developer, just my two cents as someone who has actually flown one. Definitely easier to fly than a harrier, but notably an aircraft that is unstable in situations.
