Yes, of course... but before this the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo was chronicled in the ground-breaking 1965 sports documentary film "Tokyo Olympiad" directed by Kon Ichikawa. It also contains the ballet of movement in slow motion. Aren't we lucky to see the 1968 Olympics in 2023.

I had never seen highlights of Mexico '68. The hosts were amazing. What fantastic olympics they put together. And this film is so neatly assembled with very high definition footage. It made you feel like you were right there.

These Olympics had a huge effect on me. I read that they were probably the best run in that many of the venues were already there and they didn't have to build as many venues, only dorms that are now used for housing. The housing and other buildings they did have to build were in the City. When the Olympics were over, the buildings were accessible.

Wonderful to see this. I was 26 when my wife and I were in Mexico City during the 1968 Olympics. But not as spectators. We had finished a four month assignment in Coatzacoalcos/Minatitlan on the Gulf Coast and then drove our rental VW bug back to Mexico City via Oaxaca and Acapulco for our flight home to New York. It was quite an adventure. What I remember about Mexico City were the Federales everywhere.

The government shot some of their own to create a story. I am curious to know if the Olympic oligarchs were involved. They may have suggested that gobernación get the "children" under control.

In Mexico, we sort of have a soft spot for the underdog. In this case, people waited for the last runner in the Marathon and cheered for him as he made it to he finish line, just as much as they did for the winner, or even more, because we symphatize with his effort and the philosophy of never quit.

+Sanedmex1 That Tanzanian, had it been that he was not injured can surely finish the race also within 2 hours plus. He was injured and yet finish the race in 3 hours plus. The Tanzanian was never an underdog because no one knows who will comes last among the participants. He is a true athlete and meant for endurance race. He had proven it.

Around the 20th anniversary of that date, In the fall of 1988, my calculus teacher in college said that the high altitude of Mexico City's "thinner air" was a significant factor in several world records set at those Games, especially Bob Beamon's record (which of course, still stood at that time.)

Some athletes should be awarded a Medal of Courage, like this marathon runner who refuses to give up despite his injury and pain. On the other hand, I do not consider horse riding as a sport or you have to give the horse the medal! Ditto for golf, it's not sport. When we think that rugby is not an Olympic discipline, we can only regret it.

Oh my, this footage is just wonderful. The women's 100 meter dash was exciting to me. I was 13 years old when I was watching the 68 Olympic Games, on my black and white TV. The women's 100 meter was my favorite. I seriously thought Barbara Ferrell was going to win. She had won all of her heats and preliminary races. Her form was textbook with long strides even though she was only 5'2 inches tall. She reached the tape capturing the Silver Medal. Wow...There were a lot of women in the race that I remember. Chi Cheng in lane one, and Irena Szewinska, she won the 200 meters for women. Margaret Bailes, and the winner Wyomia Tyus Gold Medal winner. 68 Olympic was a great year for the Americans. I've watched every Olympic Games since the 68 Olympic Games. This was the real Olympic Games without the performance enhancing drugs. I had a chance to go to one Olympic Games in 1996 when we hosted the games in Atlanta. It was worth every penny. Something I would never forget!!!

Si esta incompleta, lo que pasa es que hay dos versiones: una versión corta que es esta que se le envíó al comité olímpico y la versión local que está en la filmoteca de la UNAM y que desde hace como 10 años se restauró, pero por algún estupido motivo de mentalidad de mexicanito, la Filmoteca no la cede ni para venta ni para uso privado. Parece que sienten que es de su propiedad. Hace 10 años la solicité y mira, mejor por aquí en excelente calidad y sin tener que estar lambizconeando a "licenciados" con mentalidad de mandril.

One of the best Olympic games of the XX century, the first one on a Latin American country, the first time that a woman turned on the Olympic torche, the black power fist and the first time the Olympic games was broadcast in a Color TV. Too bad this games in Mexico are a bad memory for much people due the Tlatelolco massacre 10 days before the opening.

I never knew Norman was an outcast in Australia after Mexico City. But In defense of the Olympics organization, look at it from their point of view. There wasn't supposed to be any political gestures or political statements allowed. And there was a LOT of events going on all over the world that were unjust and needing correction. Just like there is today. There COULD have been many gestures by athletes drawing attention to these injustices in l968. All the world was aware of this. That is why the Olympic Games are supposed to be free of politics. The Games were supposed to be a peaceful meeting of all the world's athletes and promoting of good will between all countries of the world. Politics were strictly banned. When Smith and Carlos did their gesture on the medal stand, it was purely a political statement. And there was a worldwide reaction to it. It immediately became the signature moment of the l968 Olympics. It opened the floodgates. And look what happened at the Munich Olympics, 4 years later. And ever since 1972 security at the Olympic Games has been the number one priority of the host country. I think the Olympic officials did the right thing by immediately sending Carlos & Smith back to the US. Ever since 1968 the Olympics has suffered from politics being injected into them. For instance Carter in l980 not allowing the US Olympic Team to compete in Russia, and Russia returning the favor in l984 in the Los Angeles Olympics. Sports should be one event free of politics.

Just like we cannot separate all professional athletes from the Olympics anymore, we also cannot (and often SHOULD not) separate POLITICS from sports. Me hubiera gustado ver este documental cuando era niño o adolescente, para poder disfrutarlo sin prejuicios ni complejos. Lamentablemente en la actualidad no puedo mirarlo sin pensar en lo sucedido días antes en algunas calles y lugares que aparecen en el video. El Zócalo, Reforma, Ciudad Universitaria. Solo habían transcurrido unos cuantos días. Aunque intento enfocarme únicamente en el aspecto deportivo y festivo del video, me es imposible tener algún pensamiento político, social o HUMANO. Que triste.

Lamentablemente déjame decirte que la película esta incompleta, le falta la parte del encendido de la antorcha en Grecia, su traslado a México por mar, la llegada a Veracruz, el traslado por el país y la ceremonia en Teotihuacan y por supuesto la narración en español es estupenda con dos de las mejores voces que tuvo este país, Roberto Morales y Enrique Lizalde.

Many Ocli Buscando encontré ese recorrido desde la ceremonia del encendido en Grecia hasta el encendido del pebetero con el recorrido por Italia, España, San Salvador y la llegada a México con el recibimiento en el puerto de Veracruz, su paso por Jalapa, Orizaba, Huatusco, Puebla, Huamantla, Apizaco y la ceremonia en Teotihuacan. Está en español y su calidad es buena, no tanto como este video pero se ve muy bien.

I can't believe I am watching this in 2020 and it was so exciting!! I learned that Mexico already had all the infrastructure and the only thing they had to build was the Olympic swimming pool. And that logo was so innovated for its time. Love it.

Que gratos recuerdos! .... tuve la fortuna de asistir a varias competiciones con Mi Familia hace 53 años. Nos turnábamos los hermanos para asistir con Mis Padres a las competiciones en la Ciudad de México, no asistimos a Acapulco ni a Valle de Bravo además de pasear por la Ciudad en la noche y vivir en una " torre de Babel" .... qué afortunados!!!!

This has something to do with this Olympics I don't know if this was show in this film as i can't get it to load at all on any of my computers. On the show of Mysteries at the Museum they show a Jersey from an Aussie athlete from an Museum who was part of the what is called in the Mysteries at the Museum 'The Fist raise of 68' or something like that. It was where two Black Olympians Runners from the US put on black gloves when they medal and were on the Podium and raised their hands up in a fist to let the world know about the Civil Rights that was going on in the US that so many in the world didn't know. During the break in the locker room, The US Runners told the Silver Medalist what they were planning to do out of respect to their fellow runner so that he would not face any backlash.. The Aussie was shocked at what was happening in the US and Agreed to help them out the best way he could. During the Medal awards, The US Runners once all the medals had been given put on black gloves raised their hands in a fist while the Aussie Runner stood there but on his Jersey was the Symbol of the Civil Rights movement at the time. That in my option was one of the best parts of any the Olympics that could happen in any type by an fellow athlete who was from another country stood with other athletes that were fight for rights for their country.

Monterrey tuvo esa oportunidad antes del 2010, había buen ambiente y calidad de vida. Luego vino la guerra contra el narcotráfico y gobernadores que desfalcaron al Estado y jodieron a la Ciudad. Creo que Guadalajara sería mejor opción en la actualidad, aparte es el centro cultural del país.
