When potential artists watch other artists work they often think that since their own skills are not as 'good' as the watched artist - and then decide not to try. This is a side-effect of online world. What should happen is for artists to look at the stunning work being done by other artists to just inspire them to unchain imagination and to just start with something. When the imagination is unchained completely then there are almost no rules or constraints. I find Mikko's stream one of the streams that just makes you want to switch on inspirational music/sit in the dark/go for a run/walk and let the imagination run free (getting those mental visions out there, well that takes the time and learning) :P Thanks for streaming these lovely thought expressions Mikko!

Thank you, I am watching so many of angrymikko's videos, and when I try to paint myself I just feel like I can't do what I want, so I keep giving up. But I want to be able to paint like him so so badly, I have wanted to be able to paint for years but just accepted I am not good enough. It is hard, your comment helped though:)
@TMacDo2434 жыл бұрын
You are right! But I also think a lot of it is that people (including maybe even myself), don't fully grasp how much time this takes. This is someone VERY experienced and it took him awhile to make this. For someone with less experience to do the same thing would take perhpas quadrouple the time or even longer... It's all relative based on experience, willingess, patience, imagination, etc... But you are right about comparing yourself to someone else. A proper fundamental skillset is what allows you to be creative and is a major roadblock for many beginners.

These time estimates are always kinda skewed by the fact that I need to have really specific conditions to be able to paint on camera. The year when I finished 200 paintings wouldn’t have been possible if I needed to shoot my processes. The great thing about technology today is that one can paint in a boat, bus, bar, plane and restaurant queue. All of which I needed to do to be able to hit that number. During that year I learned that even few minutes is progress and over the course of a year that adds up to tons and tons of paintings that wouldn’t otherwise happen at all.

Hearing what goes through your mind in the process is so reassuring and helpful for a beginner who has the same thoughts but thinks that experienced artists are just dead sure about what they're going to draw and that they don't have such insecurities. Thank you so much

I heard this interesting theory that humans have way more systems for developing dopamine for things they want and the pleasure derived from things we actually like is much smaller in comparison. It's pretty hard to hear your body saying "we like doing this painting" it's much easier to feel and hear "that is the painting I'd want to do". You have talent to become amazing at the things you like doing but it takes quite a lot of humility and self acceptance to first see what your real talent is. Somewhere behind these questions lies a way to enjoy art in a whole new way without the anxiety of feeling less than what your several wants would prefer you to be.

The very reason I like your tutorial videos is because they’re not “how to paint this painting” it’s “what is my line of thinking while I paint certain things” and it’s the kind of education that helps people develop their own style rather than learn how to copy your style. Anyways thank you

I love your creativity and how you actually perceive things and give them meaning. I'm sure a lot of artists do, as well, but the way you just explain it is so fluid that it is very simple to understand, and i often say to myself "Oh, i never would have thought about it that way!", so thank you! I mostly just draw with a pencil and paper, (I'm in the beginning stages of drawing since I unfortunately drifted away from art for no reason other than life got busy) but lately i've been getting a bit more bold and using my finger in procreate on my iphone. haha. Not the best setup but still fun. Thanks for another video, Mikko!

I know that you said it frustrated you having to waste time painting things then changing it but it was really nice to see your creative process. Maybe because to us it’s sped up so its only a few minutes but it was so cool to watch it but I can get the frustration in spending all that time making it and then having to change it. But I just wanted to say that at least to the viewer it wasn’t a waste. It was very satisfying to watch.

It would be easy to edit out those kind of detours and I suppose it would make me look like a more skilful person. But there’s enough flexing in the art world already and I think it’s important to see that art is always searching for something new and as you do so there will always be dead ends. No matter how long you keep at it. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. If painting was easy to me I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t feel as exciting as it does.
