Leena"s contribution was hilarious. Such an engineer. Worth watching for that alone.

In alot of ways 2017 was a great Le Mans year, all the teams, manufacturers, drivers, commentators, Toyota failing again but Porsche coming back from last. History for a major racing fan😎🏁❤️ 5:10 and Barrichello

In some series, such as F1, cars are allowed a limited number of "power units" per season. I'm pretty sure "power unit" means "engine," but I presume it's called a power unit for a reason. Does the power unit limit cover electric drive motors in hybrids? Does WEC or Le Mans (ACO?) have a similar rule? I'm only 8 minutes into this vid, and they're trying to change the electric motor in the #2 Porsche.

Im a bit late but its called power unit bc the engines are complicated so there is not just one single engine but 2 and those have different componets so thats why its called unit. And I think there is no regulation for those 24h races cuz you can still win with a engine change (as seen in this race :))

@@l9spaceglider97 Thanks for the reply! When you say 2 engines, do you mean 2 individual piston engines are actually running in the car? Or does that refer to the piston engine and the electric motor(s) in the hybrids? I forgot I posted this question, and I never looked it up for myself. (I'm not sure I would have understood what I found though.)

@@beenaplumber8379 first im sorry for the quite unclear reply :) and then the answer to your question; Its one 500b bhp piston engine that powers the back wheels and one 500 bhp electric engine but that only runs if the driver presses a button like out of corners. Then the battery powers the front e-motors. Kinda hard to explain but i hope it helped! Apologies for my english im not a native speaker and a teen aswell :) if you want me to i can explain some more of the car something as how the battery charges , I watched the 2017-19 races thrue so I have quite some knowledge. Thanks for reeding !

@@l9spaceglider97 Thanks! That answers my question - the piston engine and the electric motor for the front. I knew that was how the hybrids were set up, but I didn't know why they were saying "power unit," and this explains it, if they want a regulation to apply to both. BTW, from a native speaker, for some reason we Americans chose to refer to electric motors as motors, and fuel-powered motors are engines. (Technically-minded people, like engineers, might call them all motors. Rocket engines are called rocket motors around NASA, but the rest of us call them engines.) I don't know if other English-speaking countries do that. I wonder if that's part of their reason for their wording - so they don't confuse us Americans :P
