Georgia was lucky though, it took a mistake from Antonio Silva for them to score really early, and pretty much parked the bus for most of the game. If they didn't score that early goal, they would have had to dig deep, play offensively in hopes of scoring, take more risks, which would open up their defence and increase the likelihood of conceding. The penalty out of nowhere, again, from a mistake/succession of a few mistakes, killed the game.

There was a penalty not given to Portugal, and at least 4 other fouls not given near their area. Referee had some really bad calls, but besides that, another game like Czechia and Morocco with the bus parked in front of the net. People who are talking shi clearly didn't see the game.

Slightly robbed. You had a guy who dived and then crawled back on to the pitch to stop the game. That's two yellows in one go, and he didn't even get one. You weren't slightly robbed. I think some truth in that...not sure of any case where you were robbed..I didn't see that but plenty of openings that portugal didn't quite take. Georgia played the perfect game plan, over performed and had one of the best goalkeeping performance of the tournament, but with a clinical Portugal earlier the game could have been different. Having said that Georgia wasted 3 or 4 quality chances to add more goals on the break too. However some of Portugal's play was still at a very good level, so nothing to panic about.

Georgia's big problem with Spain is that Georgia is completely familar to Spain. Georgia has been in the same World Cup and Euro qualification group as Spain the last two go-rounds and Spain has handled them pretty well. Also, Mamardashvili plays for Valencia in Spain so he's very well known to the vast majority of the Spanish team.

Normally you'd be right. But although I've seen many sources claiming that the head to head result is the number 1 tie breaker ... it's not. You know how I can tell ? Because my national team (Romania) finished first in group E, ahead of Belgium. Romania and Belgium had 4 points, same goal difference (+1), but Belgium won against Romania 2-0. If the head to head result was the deciding factor, Belgium would be ahead of Romania, but that's not the case. So it seems the actual tie-breakers are: 1) Overall goal difference. 2) Higher number of goals scored. So Romania finished ahead of Belgium because of the second criteria. Romania scored 4, conceded 3. Belgium scored 2, conceded 1.

Mamardashvili was incredible. that save on the curled shot by Dalot was absolutely ridiculous. one of the best saves you'll ever see. and it goes without saying but Kvaratskhelia was amazing. it's a great win for Georgia. the only problem was the referee was absolutely terrible. i can understand Ronaldo's frustration because his shirt was being pulled blatantly in the box. that should've been a penalty. but overall Portugal's attack was pitiful.

You must be watching a very different match. Strikers actually need first time and quick service to thrive. Nobody is mentioning this but Ronaldo is just one of many strikers like Lukaku, Kane, Morata, Lewandowski, Hojlund, Mitrovic, etc who are not scoring from open play. Modern players don’t know how to play with number 9’s because they are so risk adverse and obsessed with keeping the ball. It’s a problem in the game much bigger than Ronaldo.

There should be a draw after the group stage, because prior knowledge of the brackets will eventually lead to "interesting results", especially in the last group game. I am a fan of Ronaldo, but it has to be said, it was so embarrassing seeing his behaviour today. He was going at the referee for a while, prior to the shirt pull. Then he got himself booked stupidly. He still kept going at the ref and acting like a child. With this behaviour, he could have very well gotten a second yellow, and if he is this frustrated in the next game, a second yellow rules him out and he misses a match. Luckily it gets cancelled out after Quarter Finals. It didn't end there, he raged on the touchline with a tantrum. They were already through, the result did not put them at risk of being eliminated. There was no reason to be such a spoiled brat about it. This worries me, because if this is the attitude he will have in the other rounds, it's not going to bode well for Portugal.

The calls did go against them, but as the Captain, in a match of little significance, with 8 changes to the squad, Cristiano was very childish and got himself booked. He kept going at the ref and is quite lucky he didn't get another. Cannot pass to Ronaldo? He had a few header chances in the first two games, got a nice ball for an assist in the second and got a really nice pass vs Georgia which forced a save. He did get chances. In the last game, they clearly had an issue playing him in, but it was also a tight game and Georgia were very solid at the back. They lacked creativity everywhere, were poor on crosses, but a good takeaway is they forced like 4 top saves (including Ronaldo), so yeah... we got to stop raging at the team.
