@@janthomassen9577 Interest in American soccer didn't exist before Pele. He brought an interest in the sport that didn't exist before. It did fade in the 80s, true, but hosting the WC in 1994 brought it back, and it's sustained itself since, slowly growing up to today. Messi will take that interest to the next level, maybe several levels. Messi is big enough to make the rest of the world watch it.

Everyone expected Lionel Messi was gonna return to Barcelona but in terms of the financial climate of the football club, I think it was a move that would be risky for him and for both parties. Lionel Messi left Barcelona in an unexpected way 2 summers ago, because the club found it difficult to register his new contract and while he accepted a small pay cut it wasn't enough for him to return to the team. He's been linked with a return to Barcelona in recent months and if he goes back same situation, it'll be about the money he'll get paid even if he takes another salary cut, and they might find it difficult to even register him because many players have to reduce their wages so that one player gets registered in the team and for Lionel Messi going to Inter Miami was a better move because the only thing they'll pay him is wages and besides he's won everything there is to win in football and capped his stellar career with a World Cup so he has nothing left to prove, he can chill in the USA before his career comes to a close.

Since Messi you found yourself watching teams that you only knew by names on a terrible league you were never interested. its like Maradona coaching dorados de Sinaloa, it is not about what he won there but how he put dorados de sinaloa name in the world.

What biased twaddle, CR7 leaves at 37 for Saudi -He's finished - he is chasing the money. Messi leaves Europe at 34 after 2 failed seasons at PSG-What a Saint for turning down Saudi(FYI - he is already an ambassador for them), also he sweetened the deal with the Apple/Addidas pieces of pie - A stake in the Club/Future Club, this is exactly what Beckham did as a long term investment and it is paid out quite well. Barca - More than just a club - yeah right - Messi gave them the 2 finger salute, yeah maybe he'l play therefor a few months aswell as part of the deal -lol. Pele moved to US, Beckham did, now Messi - Bluds think US Soccer is going to improve and mass prime migration of elite footballers from Europe will follow. Haha

I don't think there's any question that living in Miami trumps Saudi Arabia, especially for a South American/Spanish family. But maybe the biggest driver is that Copa America will be held in America next year... Messi has given this world more than enough, especially with the exclamation point that was his performance in Qatar, and while he has as much freedom to choose his next step...I'm glad he didn't follow to current herd.

I'd been sure from the start that this whole Messi retuning to Barca thing was just a political stunt by Joan Laporta. He let go of Messi and was criticized for it. So, he wanted to look as if he tried his best to bring Messi back. Bartomeu did the same for Neymar coming back to Barca. I'm actually glad that Messi isn't returning to Barca. The first team has moved on from Messi. Barca shouldn't look back but forward.

When Beckham came to MLS it was a big deal. Most people couldn't believe it because he was the best player ever to play in MLS. As good as Messi is it's surprising, but given the money he can make it's believable. I feel bad for the fans. I'm in Atlanta for the game against Cincinnati tickets start at $15, next day against Miami $135. In Miami tickets were starting at $29, they are now $350. The better seats are $1200+. They would probably sell out the 65,000 Hard Rock the first few games, but I don't see them doing it for 2 or 3 years at those prices.
