This is crazy that I found this on youtube. When I was growing up my parents always put out a impressive front yard graveyard scene in Milwaukee for Trick or Treat and this was the tape we played in the background. While they both passed and this tape is long gone, it's almost making me cry hearing it again. I had no idea how popular it was and others would recognize it.

I got this tape back in the '80s and I still have it. It was always a favorite tape of mine growing up. I would listen to it the same way some would listen to a Bon Jovi tape. It is really nice to have this to listen to, rather than having to take out the cassette every time I want to listen to it and put more wear on it (although I do still take it out and listen to the tape from time to time).

Call me crazy but I just started crying thinking about how many times I listened to this in the 80's as a kid lol.. Every year we would play it on Halloween and do a great front yard show and my dad would scare so many people lol.. Omg it was a great time and I can't wait to do it this year myself.

Wow I remember this when I was a kid. In the 80's we had this Halloween party. There was a local toy store in the mall called KB Toys that was so popular that year because they were selling Halloween costumes and alot of things for Halloween. This was one of them. My family had to have spent over an hour that day going through all the different Halloween stuff that they had for sale. We wound up using this tape for the party that we had. I was a kid then, but I remember the girls being too creeped out by the music and sound effects to want to come inside. We had to coax them to come into the house haha. Glad to see this is something else that survived the 80's!

For me, I was introduced to Horror Sounds of the Night at Fat Man's Forest in Augusta, Ga, in around 1990. They had a haunted hallway with black lights and they were playing this tape on a loud speaker. My mom hesitantly agreed to buy me this tape and it became the sound of Halloween for many years to come.

It’s amazing how well this sounds, almost as if this was the original factory recording. I have 2 copies of this tape myself, one in a back cartridge with a white label and the other in a transparent cartridge with a white label. The black one sounds pretty good but the white one sounds a bit worse. Either way this is a very good recording for a 99 cent tape made in the 80s.

Sounds great! I’ve been trying to do this & found the intro off itunes and a CD rip of Sounds to Make You Shiver, but couldn’t find a good source for the “Phantom of the Cathedral” track without the vinyl static/quality. I do have the CD version of HSotN though, I did notice it was different. Any tracklist on that or notes on what the differences are? I noticed there was at least one track on it that was new, but it seemed like the rest of the tape was the same, just sequenced differently? I may be wrong I haven’t heard it in a while.
@shotgunmario4 жыл бұрын
I cleaned Phantom Cathedral by hand in Audition, I don't know of any good copies, I think mine came off of a vinyl transfer wasn't responsible for. I sourced Sounds to Make You Shiver from CD, and Phantom of the Opera from BBC sound effects re-release. Here are the tracks for the CD version of HSotN: 01 - "The Phantom of the Cathedral" taken from Power Records' "Ghostly Sounds" (1974) *** all following tracks are taken from Sounds to Make You Shiver” (1974): 02 - Witch Laugh 03 - Count Dracula and his Victim 04 - Screams & Groans 05 - Moans & Groans 06 - Cats 07 - Dogs 08 - Creaky Door 09 - Breaking Windows 10 - Thunder 11 - Wind 12 - Frankenstein's Monster Breaking Loose 13 - Hooting Owl 14 - [Beginning ection of (?)] A Night in a Haunted House (Side A) Also IIRC, the audio is 19:45 long, and it loops twice, with one of those times truncated. I don't remember what's missing.
