The reason for contact adhesive round the edge is because that's the most stressful area of the roof and even thought trim nails it in place you still end up with bubbles around the edges after 12 month or so.. seen it plenty of times

Good timing. My roof is due to be delivered next week. I always understood the contact adhesive to be more about taking the pull when the epdm shrinks rather than holding it down.
@thegardenroomguru4 жыл бұрын
Suppose that theory would be ok if temp at time off fitting was consistent, but it’s designed to be fit all year , and if the middle shrinks how would that effect the outside100mm , who knows, but never had a problem after using for years, I’ll go on the course one day 💪

william griffin yeah it wasn’t a criticism or anything. It’s probably my misunderstanding of it. In fact I spoke to a manufacturer today who has distributors in leeds, I was passed his details by a roof slate company we do some work for, and he said to do it like you did in this video.

I love everything about your work ethic and attitude when working. It's easy to see you're a good worker. Only thing i want to add is the contract adhesive is highly recommended by the EPDM companies and there must be good reason for it. As someone else said it's likely to reduce stress and lifting. Otherwise brill job. Would be great to have an update video on this roof to see how it held up. That would shut myself and the neysayers up quick

😂there’s 40k people on my face book group, I’m estimating that at least 3k have followed my build packs and not used contact adhesive. Never an issue, fair enough if you’ve got upstands or adjoining a house wall. But it’s a flat roof with mechanical fixings to all edges, never had a problem 👌

We finish them so the 100mm soffit is fit to the end and the cladding covers the over side of that makes sense
@jerrywarren69599 ай бұрын
Is the glue water resistant? Marking the joists is good but standard for decnt for chippies. Alternatively you could actually you could leave a 50mm expansion joint at each end,run a chalk line through and that would be good . Then if the are is out of square you simply cut off at the other end again leaving a 50mm expansion space . If out of square you may find that your cutting down from as an example 65mm to 43mm keeping your expansion space. However if an expansion space s not required or recommended reduce your gap to say 2mm ,chalk line follow through and square up the other end . Glue would be recommended then you’ve got a belt and braces job taking into account any heating up and cooling down of external weather conditions/ temperatures and condensation etc which can accumulate and cause unnecessary issues between the fascia and boarding

if that's permaroof edge trim I believe your meant to use a sponge strip which u peal and stick to underside of trim which meets rubber then compress down and fix trim or u use black silicone its to stop water running under trim and spilling down outer edges also contact adhesive on all perimeters to minimise shrinkage
@thegardenroomguru4 жыл бұрын
Love a bit of over engineering but it’s too far, no problems as of yet and done more than a few, silicone on that heat absorbing surface won’t stick longer than a week, and then looks like a balls up when it’s all coming off, the sponge stop is unnecessary as it’ll never stop the rain.
@jordy7984 жыл бұрын
@@thegardenroomguru thats what manufacturer recommends also if u where to use silicone u put it where sponge strip would be so u don't see it unless you over do it but it does stick. Also let's say one of your trims blow off your rubber gona lift with the wind if not glued around edge an over sight yes but wind can destroy and lift anything
@thegardenroomguru4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate what your saying, but the trim is held on with ring cut nails, I’ve had to remove them before, if the wind removes them, it’s pulling the full roof off anyway they are impossible to pull out, I break and bend until snap to remove, experience tells me this. No body buys the foam strip mate, if you wanna that’s your up to you. 🤷🏻♂️
@jordy7984 жыл бұрын
@@thegardenroomguru I don't buy foam strip either I use silicone but its never seen but I sometimes buy from local supplier and his gutter trims and edge trims all come with foam strip already attached and its good job. not saying anyone right or wrong here its what manufacturer recommends.

@@AH-yg4qp it went very well, its a really easy system. the two things to watch out for are to ensure the joints of your roof boards are perfectly sealed, sanded and flush. I have one joint that wasnt T&G and you can tell as it has a very slight ripple along it. the other thing is make sure you dont cut the overhang too short as it needs more than you think to wrap up under the gutter trim. Mine was about 5mm too short in several places and the rubber kept popping out. If that happens I recommend cutting some small sections off the trim to use as shims. worked a treat for me. @thegardenroomguru4 жыл бұрын
a warm roof is impossible on the height of these builds, as we keep under the 2.5 rule. we push the insulation tight to the underside of the roof board. this then prevents the trapped air from condensation as there is no air to condensate.
